That this is giving me the rage

I’ve posted about this before but now the roof is on it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s going to be a fucking wood workshop along with all the noise & dust that goes with it 😡

Ie informed the council - who are hot to look into the planning permission aspect.

In the meantime has anyone any ideas how we can cover this up so it’s not a complete eyesore?

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden. The sun is overhead most of the day so I don’t think it will block our light.

And the trampoline didn’t used to be there - it was there temporarily but we’ve left it there because I want to annoy them - I know I’m being petty 😜

My husband is pushing for me to agree to our garden to be turned into a sterile plantless space. I'm glad to see so many people on my side. We don't have time to work on it enough either but I prefer a few weeds, bugs and birds than paving and plastic grass.

You have actually really made me feel quite pissed off. How do people like you get away with so much pettiness that you get to the point of complaining about something like this?

Your poor neighbour.

LemmysAceCard · 09/09/2020 13:41

I dont have any plants in my garden. The bloody dog eats them, bites the heads off then eats them. I have given up with plants

I have real grass though.

www.planningni.gov.uk/index/advice/advice_apply/advice_apply_homes/advice_around_home/advice_home_structures.htm

According to the gov planning permission site; he does not need planning permission if the shed / building is below 2.5 m if it's within 2 m of the boundary. You said it's about 3 ft above a 6 ft fence, which would be 2.7 m. So depending how accurately you're measuring it may need planning permission. However, it looks like a pre-fab one and most of those are designed at just under 2.5 m for this exact reason.

You can actually check local planning permission applications here:

www.gov.uk/search-register-planning-decisions

We recently built a similar shed as a gym in our garden and checked all these regulations to make sure we following the rules.

It looks like a lovely shed.
You could give them a climbing clematis perhaps and say how nice it would look trailing over the she...

No seriously, your thread has made me feel a lot better today. I get cross about things, people, but usually it is something serious...

Not a shed.

Facelikearustytractor · 09/09/2020 13:45

I have a neighbour who is similar and reports anything and everything. The whole neighbourhood hates her. I can't wait to move to tell her what I think of her. She is a bully.

SpringFan · 09/09/2020 13:46

I sympathise. Next door put up a large shed for their son to do some carpentery bits when he was at school. He then became an apprentice carpenter, and then started to a bit of a carpentery side line. The noise from all his kit was terrible.
Luckily they decided to down size and moved. It was the incessant noise at week ends- and the football results at full blast over the tools.

Smallsteps88 · 09/09/2020 13:48

From your photos the only thing that shed is blocking is the roof of the house behind it. Confused

LEELULUMPKIN · 09/09/2020 13:48

@Oysterbabe I admire you for standing your weed ridden ground. Don't give in!

Doesn't look remotely like a woodworking shed.
Unless it is a hobbyist.
Have you seen the size of timber delivery lorries? Plus the forklifts to manoeuvre the wood about and store it...It doesn't look like it has any extraction.
It might be an upholsterer's shed...they are much quieter...We had a neighbour who worked from a garage doing upholstery, and it was only discernible as one walks by.

Most Wood workshops are not in residential areas...or are not noisy enough to disturb anyone.
None are in gardens!
The 'view' just looks to be of houses anyway...If the garden was made 'interesting' it would take your eyes away from his shed.

Concrete fences are brutal looking...If that is his, I can understand the anguish, and would put up a wooden one on your side.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/09/2020 13:58

I think the significant factor is how the shed is going to be used rather than the existence of the shed itself. If it's going to be the venue for dawn-to-dusk top-volume hoe-downs or Irish dancing competitions, that's a problem; but if they're just going to sit in it, store stuff there, even make acceptable noise pursuing a hobby or money-making sideline - unfortunately, nobody has a guaranteed right to silence - I just can't see the problem.

I obviously don't know the full story here, but just imagine if his main job/business had been destroyed during the COVID crisis, he's panicking as to how he can keep his and his family's heads above water. He realises that, if he uses his carpentry skills and experience and puts in the efforts, making furniture and toys to sell online, he might just be able to keep the wolf from the door and keep their home. But then his NDN doesn't like the look of his shed/workshop, starts complaining and threatens to report him, along with executing a slightly baffling trampoline-based protest. That would be a mighty kick in the teeth.

@ScottishStottie

You are ridiculous and pathetic. That is all.
And you are rude - there’s no need

Agree with the majority. If this is currently your biggest issue in life, you’re doing pretty nicely.

YABU for this - if a garden has no plants or grass is it even a garden? Surely you can't just have nothing - what do your bees eat?

This isn’t related to COVID - he’s had a shed for years & stores all his wood etc in his conservatory. The neighbours all around have been pissed off with him for years for all his sawing and drilling etc but we can’t do anything about it as it’s within the guidelines- funnily enough I am the only one that wasn’t really bothered about the noise. This however, could be worse..... or better time will tell.

Funnily enough we got some wild flowers to plant in pots to put on the decking but never got round to buying the pots - thanks for the reminder 👍🏻

Grin Grin @ScottishStottie

Those were my thoughts completely.

You get get 'the Rage' over that OP?

I won't ask where you are with Brexit ragewise if a shed can do that to your emotions.

Grin
Suzi888 · 09/09/2020 14:19

What that trampoline? Grin yes I’d be very irritated by screaming kids bouncing up and down next to my house lol

notangelinajolie · 09/09/2020 14:22

YABU for having zero trees, shrubs or flowers.

Etinox · 09/09/2020 14:25

@1starwars2

Gardens without any plants make me sad, maybe that's how your neighbour feels when he looks out his window at your garden. Live and let live!
Agreed!
ExpectTheWorst · 09/09/2020 14:26

But it's really really not blocking the view of anything at all - it's in front of a house and there are some trees behind that. That's not "a view".

You'll have to wait until he starts working in it to see if the noise is unreasonable.

Witchend · 09/09/2020 14:31

That looks very nice. I'd like it for my crafting. And my neighbours would probably tell me how great it was that I had space and ask what I was making.

But we're nice round here.
