Cake smash...

I know I am. But if people can convince me I'm not I'll be much happier 😁😁

When DS was 1 I was opposed to cake smash photoshoots because it was a waste of cake. And he was tube fed all wouldn't have touched it and was actually in the middle of a 4 month awful hospitalisation for his birthday and when he came out he ate even less than when he went in and he had/has sensory issues that just would have made it not viable.

Now I have twins who would devour a cake shop between them, who don't seem to have any issues touching messy stuff or eating ANYTHING and I really want one.

But I know they're terrible.

Would I be unreasonable to bury my principles for some cute photos of fat babies covering in icing and cream?

Do it if you want to. We did one at home and my god it was messy! But I got it out my system!

Do it. It is probably better with Covid to actually let them have their own cake.

Findahouse21 · 08/09/2020 19:28

Do it - my dd had a ball at hers, and most of the cake was still edible too

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/09/2020 19:29

Go for it. They’re revolting but if you really want to then go crazy.

romeolovedjulliet · 08/09/2020 19:29

stupidly pointless and a waste of cake imo, but everyone to their own.

Trufflepuffpuff · 08/09/2020 19:32

I suppose you did ask so...I think they're pretty crass and wasteful. To be honest they make me a bit angry, such a silly waste of food. If you were previously so against them then maybe you could come up with another idea that would be equally cute? But it is up to you and if you really want one then go for it.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/09/2020 19:35

I have honestly never understood this craze it makes no sense to me and I have to admit I get a bit Confused when I see them. That being said it is entirely up to you, we all have outlr preferences so go for it.

Pixilicious · 08/09/2020 19:35

Naff and conspicuous waste

VestaTilley · 08/09/2020 19:35

They’re an obscene waste of food, and I don’t find them at all cute, but it’s up to you.

I don’t like “gender” reveal parties or baby showers though, so what do I know?

chipsandpeas · 08/09/2020 19:36

its a waste imo

chipsandpeas · 08/09/2020 19:36

id actually add, if you are intent on doing it why dont you get cupcakes so its not as much messy and a waste

Theradioison · 08/09/2020 19:39

Awful, waste of food, can't get my head around them at all

ShebaShimmyShake · 08/09/2020 19:39

Oh just do it. You'll get people on here moralising about it all over the shop because it's Mumsnet and moral values are assigned to the length of your hair (really), and of course all the people who think it's "common", which is of course even worse than merely immoral. But if you like it and want it, just do it. Compost the leftover cake if it bothers you; where starvation exists today, it's not because of cake smash photo shoots. It isn't to everyone's tastes but it doesn't make you a bad human being.

I'm in the 'whats the point?' camp. Haven't done it for either of my DCs. Food wastage aside, it just seems like something people do so they can post it on social media. In fact no one i know has ever done one so maybe its a regional thing.

romeolovedjulliet · 08/09/2020 19:42

ffs you can't compost cake it will attract rats and other vermin !

ShebaShimmyShake · 08/09/2020 19:42

Also, some people SIT on cakes for fun, don't even try to eat them. Moral and class signifier klaxon!

Abraid2 · 08/09/2020 19:42

What a waste of food.

ImaSababa · 08/09/2020 19:43

Not a fan of the smash but @LivingMyBestLife2020 your son is absolutely adorable!

StoneofDestiny · 08/09/2020 19:44

A waste of food - crass.

Marmite27 · 08/09/2020 19:46

We did an NCT group smash. The 6 kids all ignores the cake.

Grown ups ate it in handfuls afterwards Grin

Do it if you want to

tenlittlecygnets · 08/09/2020 19:46

No. Totally wasteful. And pretty tacky. I’m also not keen on the actual photos! But ... up to you.

ShebaShimmyShake · 08/09/2020 19:47

I've put cake in my composter, didn't seem to attract anything other than the usual worms and insects you expect to get in there. Rats can't get into it.

But ok, chuck it in the bin if you prefer. It's not a significant contributor to food waste in the UK and normal mealtimes with babies aren't known for being clean and neat either. I make play dough, salt dough and pasta pictures, some call that a waste of food.

It's just a pic of a kid eating and playing with cake. Not everyone's thing but if you like it, just do it. There's no moral value to it. It's a messy play photoshoot.

dollypartonscoat · 08/09/2020 19:48

Ugh, they turn me a bit green. Revolting.

That said, do what you like. Prepare to be secretly judged by anyone who sees the---- photos though 🤢

CaMePlaitPas · 08/09/2020 19:50

Weird and unnecessary but it's your money!
