Cake smash...

I know I am. But if people can convince me I'm not I'll be much happier 😁😁

When DS was 1 I was opposed to cake smash photoshoots because it was a waste of cake. And he was tube fed all wouldn't have touched it and was actually in the middle of a 4 month awful hospitalisation for his birthday and when he came out he ate even less than when he went in and he had/has sensory issues that just would have made it not viable.

Now I have twins who would devour a cake shop between them, who don't seem to have any issues touching messy stuff or eating ANYTHING and I really want one.

But I know they're terrible.

Would I be unreasonable to bury my principles for some cute photos of fat babies covering in icing and cream?

And yes, I don’t want to use the C word but I feel this goes hand in hand with gender reveals, hairbands on baby girls and little leather jackets on baby boys.

If it helps I was thinking just a nappy ,😂

God!!! People on her are so miserable!!!! If you want to do one just go for it!! You don't need our permission! I think it would be so cute with twins!! It sounds like you really want to do it so just do it and have fun!!!! X

You sound lovely!

@ilikebooksandplants

They are absolutely revolting. I don’t really mind about the food waste - it makes no difference to anyone if you eat the cake or smash it to pieces - BUT for the sake of all your friends, please don’t put the photos on social media. Not a single person wants to see a photo of your child smeared in food. Vom.
I'd happily see my friends babies covered on cake 😂😅

You think I'm a C word for having a cake smash? Over reaction much?

Just do what you love. Why let other people stop you.

And if someone really did just call you a cunt for having a picture taken of your baby, and doing what makes you happy, then I think they need a cake smash. On their mean spirited unkind face.

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 08/09/2020 21:10

SleepingStandingUp

It's totally a Chav thing where I'm from. That would be my first instinct, sorry 🙈

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 08/09/2020 21:11

I'm pretty sure that poster meant Chav not Cunt Grin

Skyla2005 · 08/09/2020 21:12

I think they are horrible and pointless don’t find it cute or funny atall

SisterAgatha · 08/09/2020 21:13

It’s interesting that only the haters of this trend are the ones using such horrid language about other people. Tacky, chav, cunt. And it’s supposedly the cake smash that’s distasteful and they are the ones with impeccable taste 😂

Let people be happy Smile

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 08/09/2020 21:16

SisterAgatha

No one said Cunt. Relax a bit.

Healththrowaway199 · 08/09/2020 21:19

I just don’t understand the appeal

Especially when you’re the one who has the clean up the mess? It’s your cake smeared child and house, what’s the point?

Dominicgoings · 08/09/2020 21:22

You had me at fat babies. I ADORE a chunky baby thigh 😂💗

Starburst8 · 08/09/2020 21:22

I did it with my LO. Bought a cheap rainbow cake from Asda and did the photos myself at home.
I had high, (god they were high) expectations. He was gonna smash through that cake and we'd get photos like a pro. Well I can tell you now it didn't turn out quite that way.
He didn't smash into the cake, he had no interest whatsoever. Eventually I got a few good photos.
I really wouldn't pay the £££ for a photo shoot, I'd just do it at home... If it doesn't work out you've not lost hundreds of pounds.

eaglejulesk · 08/09/2020 21:22

I think it is ridiculous and wasteful - especially considering some people struggle to feed their kids and would love to have a fancy cake for them to actually eat something so special.

However, if you want to, go ahead - it's totally your decision.

Healththrowaway199 · 08/09/2020 21:26

I just googled photos of what this is supposed to look like

I don’t think it’s achievable in reality as you can’t predict whether your child will destroy the cake in a cute way or not, or whether you can even secure a good photo

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/09/2020 21:26

The only poster who used the word cunt, was one that was all for the cake smash, and called people who didn't like it miserable cunts.

squashdbanana · 08/09/2020 21:27

They are chav central. Tacky, wasteful and rather 'lookatme'.

On a par with gender reveals, balloon arches and social media posts referring to being #soblessed.

nitsandwormsdodger · 08/09/2020 21:28

Am I the only person in the universe who has Never heard of a cake smash photo thing ?? WTF ??? how is this a new craze ? Everyone has photos of food ( usually cake or jelly ice cream ) smeared around their face as babies ??!

Also it this whole thread not a blatant ad for someone's insta account ??

Longdistance · 08/09/2020 21:30

Good grief! Is this a ‘thing’ now?
Well, you’ll be pleased to know that there are kids in my area that won’t be having a hot dinner tonight.
I hope you spend your money on some food for your local food bank instead of wasting it on this frivolous load of bollocks Angry

Shmithecat2 · 08/09/2020 21:30

Food waste aside (I'm not that bothered about cake either), I find them massively contrived, wanky and pretentious.
