Cake smash...

I know I am. But if people can convince me I'm not I'll be much happier 😁😁

When DS was 1 I was opposed to cake smash photoshoots because it was a waste of cake. And he was tube fed all wouldn't have touched it and was actually in the middle of a 4 month awful hospitalisation for his birthday and when he came out he ate even less than when he went in and he had/has sensory issues that just would have made it not viable.

Now I have twins who would devour a cake shop between them, who don't seem to have any issues touching messy stuff or eating ANYTHING and I really want one.

But I know they're terrible.

Would I be unreasonable to bury my principles for some cute photos of fat babies covering in icing and cream?

Goodness I'm glad I've got MN in order to make gain a judgement on what is tacky or not(!) OP don't give a fuck about what anyone says just do it. I'll bet most of the 'no it's tacky' etc people have done equally as 'tacky' things with their children.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 08/09/2020 20:36

Visitors will see your walls, @SleepingStandingUp. They may even compliment you on the photos.

Fecking attention seeker. Get in the box of shame.

ilikebooksandplants · 08/09/2020 20:37

They are absolutely revolting. I don’t really mind about the food waste - it makes no difference to anyone if you eat the cake or smash it to pieces - BUT for the sake of all your friends, please don’t put the photos on social media. Not a single person wants to see a photo of your child smeared in food. Vom.

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 08/09/2020 20:37

I dont know why people are do catty in the comments OP. DS is 2 in December. I wasn't well last year so we didn't do much for his birthday. I'm booking a cake smash for him. It will be so much fun for him. I think the recycling and buying off apps like good to go to prevent waste and composting offset this one day. And if someone is secretly judging my 2 year olds birthday pictures they are a miserable cunt who needs to fuck off

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 08/09/2020 20:40

I just don't think I'd ever want a staged picture of DS covered in cake? Seems a bit odd to me, but then I don't like the pictures of newborns in buckets either (or the giant canvasses they're then printed on!), much prefer candid, natural photography

LemonDrizzles · 08/09/2020 20:40

Do it ... And when dc1 turns 5 (or some other age), do an equally special photo shoot (you can just do it yourself, no need to hire anyone).

ScrapThatThen · 08/09/2020 20:41

People waste things in lots of ways, do what makes sense to you.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/09/2020 20:43

@LivingMyBestLife2020

Do it if you want to. We did one at home and my god it was messy! But I got it out my system!
So cute. They're one in Dec so maybe not naked outside ...

If you want photos of a baby covered in cake just let them feed themselves .

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 08/09/2020 20:44

Is that your little chap, @LivingMyBestLife2020?

He looks absolutely delighted. :o

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/09/2020 20:44

I honestly don't know why anyone thinks it's cute to have pictures of a baby covered in food Confused. Where did this fad come from?

SleepingStandingUp · 08/09/2020 20:45

@JanewaysBun

So tacky! Also I don't even know what the point of them is? Give the kid a slice of cake (probably their first taste of cake) and you'll get a cute reaction as they eat it. Why do you need a whole cake???
Yeah I'm a terrible mother, it won't be

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/09/2020 20:46

I just hate to see food wasted that way. To me it's insensitive.

I'm sure you can give them cake to eat that will still see them covered in cake to take cute pictures without deliberately wasting food. Some people will think I'm being priggish but it makes me uncomfortable.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/09/2020 20:49

@FridayNightAtTheBronze

DappledThings

Yep, girls in tutus mandatory. And boys have to be in weird polyester bow tie faux suit outfits.

It's all very strange and tacky.

If it helps I was thinking just a nappy ,😂

your babies but i think theyre a waste of food and whats it goign to be like cleaning after

Sexnotgender · 08/09/2020 20:49

@VestaTilley

They’re an obscene waste of food, and I don’t find them at all cute, but it’s up to you.

I don’t like “gender” reveal parties or baby showers though, so what do I know?

My thoughts too.
Whatisthisfuckery · 08/09/2020 20:49

I think they’re stupid and wasteful, but then I’m a miserable bugger, so...

LivePositively · 08/09/2020 20:52

Tacky!

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 08/09/2020 20:54

@GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou yes that is my son. He’s older now but he enjoyed his cake smash, as did everybody at his party. It’s not for everyone and so personally, I wouldn’t pay for a photo shoot but in the garden was fun

TheNewLook · 08/09/2020 20:56

So bizarre. How has this become a thing?

Who want to see their child covered in food?

What if they just prod it nicely? Does the photographer force it into their face?

I don’t get it. It’s not remotely cute.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 08/09/2020 20:56

He certainly looks like he had fun. Smile

liveitwell · 08/09/2020 20:56

YANBU if that's what you want.

With my twins we had a nice family photoshoot instead, had a selection of outfits and included their favourite toys as the time.

Personally, I find cake smashes a bit trendy and inauthentic. The fact that it's all staged just makes me feel a bit cringe and I don't think I'd be too bothered about looking back at the pics.

Picklypickles · 08/09/2020 20:57

Wasted cake is heartbreaking! Both of my children got a single cupcake for their first birthdays, I have pictures of both of them covered from head to toe in cake and frosting just from one cupcake!

They'd just be amazed there's room for new ones given how many of PFB there are 😂😂
