To think women can look stunning with short hair?

Was watching Cliffhanger last night and the heroine had short haor and was just stunning. Likewise Demi Moore and Princess Di suit the look.
I do like my long hair and dont have the guts for a pixie cut as I have slight jowls. Following on from my. " all the girls now have big eyebrows" thread, I'm now observing that hardly any young girls have short hair! This has been done before and I'm prob just jealous of the long locks....but what was once a cool statement is no longer a thing. Why?

DD and many of her friends are rocking pixie-type cuts. We are in a progressive (US) area though; I understand in conservative places like Texas, all the girls her age have long, preferably blonde hair.

I think we have different ideas about what short hair is!

I personally wouldn't class the jaw length bob photos on here as short hair.

I'd class the short back and sides / pixie cut as short. And I think these need a good jaw line to look good.

You've already been incredibly unpleasant to me on another thread about middle-aged women daring to like long hair (still waiting for the apology), so what fun for you to have another go. I seem to recall you expressing several times the desire to snip off the ends of random women's longer hair that look too straggly for your tastes.

If I was unpleasant to you I'm sure it was because you were unpleasant to someone else - so no apology will be forthcoming. I don't care if people have long hair at any age - what I object to is people thinking simply having long hair is enough to make it beautiful, as it isn't. I also have never expressed any desire to snip off the ends of anyone's hair, but I do think some people have straggly, thin hair and I think it looks awful.

I notice I am not the only person on this thread to comment on how rude you have been.

The reason I post my photo on here is to try and persuade other women to live the life they choose .... and that includes going for the haircut they want. I'm not conventionally beautiful in any way but I love the shaved head and so that's what is it is.

I'm really trying to move us away from the: 'You need to be pretty for short hair' or 'You shouldn't have long hair after 40'.

We're a long time dead .... I suspect Live it your way.

How is this even a question? Of course many women look stunning with short hair. If I had the face and hair for it, I'd do it. My hair is very thick and does need some length or else I look like I'm about to take off. It's currently much too long though (lockdown, fast growth) and doesn't look well kept. I'll make a hair appointment when I can.

I have very short hair, and apart from quite striking eyes, wouldn't say I was pretty. In fact my face is a bit fat and jowly but I don't care. Short hair makes me feel sharp and sassy and on top of my game. Everyone says it it suits me and my husband loves it.

I've tried longer hair several times in the past but I just feel frumpy and it's really irritating on my face.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned Halle Berry- 52 and can still rock the pixie styles probably the most stunning woman I’ve seen to wear the style.

I too am old enough to have had all lengths of hair - my personal preference being short. To the PP who said 2-3” pony-tails are shit - short hair is too short for that. 😒

I’ve never liked long hair - seeing loose strands gives me the boak - and it’s a sensory issue if it’s on my face.

I’ve got cheekbones (and a cracking set of jowls to match!) - and was holding off because I hate the hairdresser... but a buzz cut I could do on my own.

Was watching “Tammy” on Netflix last night and Cathy Bates plays a middle-aged lesbian. Old, fat and short hair. Asked myself if there were actually anything fundamentally “wrong” with ticking Cathy’s character’s boxes?

Of course short hair can look great! DD2 has just gone a No. 5 all over and she looks amazing.

Meh. What’s the worst that can happen? Too shit for a swishy pony-tail? 😁 have you got very thick hair? Mine is a bit thin and shit and and I’d worry it’d look a bit Belsen.

I'm always amused by the suggestion these days that women can't look stunning with short hair. I really did look stunning in my wedding photos back in 2003, with well maintained short hair, because in those days I was super slim. No one would ever say I look better now with long hair, as I'm middle aged and overweight.

I do have my hair done regularly, though, and still do with long hair (I know, middle aged women shouldn't have long hair lol). I have a friend who is a hairdresser, though, and she does it for me, and fairly regularly. (I went to a professional salon for the first time in years following the end of lockdown.)

I also think it’s a cultural thing. I lived in the Netherlands for 15 years and many women have short hair - in fact I was the only one in my department who had anything long enough to vaguely style. The Brits have bought in lock, stock and barrel to the reality tv look.

I've short hair always has been short. DH thinks I'm gorgeous always has (at least so he says). Daughters also had short hair even when little.

I disagree. I’ve never thought any woman with short hair looked attractive, celebrity or not.

I love Kaley Cuoco but had to stop watching S8 of TBBT because she ruined her lovely hair by chopping it short. I just couldn’t watch her.

No woman with short hair looks good imo. It’s unflattering and unfeminine.

I think short hair is about to become popular with younger girls as they reject the reality TV look!

My teen DD has short hair and quite a few of her friends do too. It is quite popular at her school and amongst her peers. She loves how easy it is to look after and it does really suit her. She looks prettier with shorter hair..

I disagree that Princess Di suited it (no offence to her) but in general yes, lots of women look great with short hair.

I think her hair looked great by the end (sadly) but certainly she didn't have the style or confidence for it in the 80s.

I do get annoyed with the generalisation that you have to be beautiful to suit short hair. I'm average looking and look a million times better (and younger) with short hair. Katy Perry looked shit.

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane my hair is very fine and looks generally shit when it’s longer. Plus I’ve got mad frizzy curls so losing all ways when it has any length 😂😂

Anyway I’m over 50 now so totally invisible to most people so who gives a shit 😂😂
