To ask how often you shower?

I only shower 3-4 times a week, to be honest. Is that gross? I especially will skip a shower if my hair looks good.

I do, however, change undies every morning.

I have a quick shower every day to wash my armpits, flaps and bum crack. I think peeing over fanny flaps all day without washing with water is going to lead to a stale urine smell, and an unwashed arse crack is going to be a swamp of sweat and poo stink. Dry bog roll just isn’t thorough enough. Not having some sort of daily bottom wash, whether it’s a shower, flannel or wet wipes, is a bit dirty IMO.

@00100001

Most people don't need to wash their entire body every single day though.

For example this is perfectly adequate for most people in most days.

Morning 1: shower and wash entire body and hair.
Evening 1: wash face, hands and pits

Morning 2: wash face, hands and armpits
Evening 2: wash face, hands and armpits

Morning 3: shower and wash everything.

And continue.

And SOME people won't need to wash their hair every other day either.

With exceptions for after exercise, swimming sweaty hit days, at beach, rolling round in mud etc...

Sure, why would you want to wash your bum and vag every day?
0gfhty · 16/08/2020 15:26

I used to shower daily. However I have tried to cut down to every other day because I think it's unnecessary to wash so frequently and a waste of water/gas. Have taken up strip washing that my mother taught me. Humans really don't need to wash that much

amb885 · 16/08/2020 15:26

once every 3 days.

BlueJava · 16/08/2020 15:29

I shower and wash my hair every morning (I don't style it, just comb it through). Sometimes shower or bath in the evening as well if it's hot. When I lived in Asia I always showered twice a day and sometimes at lunch time as well!

Michellebops · 16/08/2020 15:51

You should shower or have a bath at least once a day EVERY day!

You might not think you sweat or smell but you do have areas that do need freshened up.

It's unhygienic otherwise 🤢

Sunshiney1981 · 16/08/2020 15:56

Scientific comment showing daily showers or baths are unnecessary,

“How Often You Really Need To Shower (According To Science)

According to Dr. Joshua Zeichner, assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, how frequently we shower and what we perceive as body odor is "really more of a cultural phenomenon." Boston dermatologist Dr. Ranella Hirsch echoes this sentiment. "We overbathe in this country and that's really important to realize," she says. "A lot of the reason we do it is because of societal norms.
And those norms are mainly the result of good advertising.”

Also states:

Zeichner and Hirsch say that showering too often (particularly in hot water) can dry out and irritate skin, wash away the good bacteria that naturally exists on your skin, and introduce small cracks that put you at a higher risk of infection.
Both doctors say that parents should not bathe babies and toddlers daily. Zeichner says that early exposure to dirt and bacteria may make the skin less sensitive as you age, and prevent allergies and conditions like eczema”.

Twice a day every day. Hair wash with my evening shower.

Takes a just a few minutes. I turn the water off while lathering up and use bar soap so don’t use a lot of water or have dry skin.

I like a ‘pamper’ bath once a week in place of my Sunday night shower.

I think people who don’t wash daily, these days where washing facilities are more easily accessible than ever, are kidding themselves that they don’t smellHmm.

Angelina82 · 16/08/2020 16:13

I think people who don’t wash daily, these days where washing facilities are more easily accessible than ever, are kidding themselves that they don’t smell

And I think that people who (think they) smell after 12 hours of not bathing need to see a doctor or a shrink.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 16:21

"I think people who don’t wash daily, these days where washing facilities are more easily accessible than ever, are kidding themselves that they don’t smell"

Nobody has said that they don't WASH daily, just that they don't shower daily.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 16:26

"I think people think that if you can't smell sweat then there's no smell but sweat and oils on skin and scalp have a smell too and you simply don't smell fresh as you would jd you'd showered in the morning"

Yes, some people have a scalp smell, but lots of the 'you must have a daily shower' lot have said they don't wash their hair with every shower.
I don't think oils on the skin have a smell that other people standing a normal distance away would be able to smell, unless the person eats very strong smelling food, and even then the smell is probably sweat coming from the pores. That's not necessarily stopped by washing either. If you've ever smelled alcohol on someone who had a very big night the night before, but has obviously showered the next morning, you'll know what I mean. The alcohol is still being sweated out.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 16:28

"Why is their skin fabulous?*

Probably not because they don't shower daily hmm"

Too much washing is definitely bad for the skin so yes there could be a link.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 16:29

"We didn’t have a proper shower installed until the 80s but we had a bath every night until then. “Bath night” once a week sounds like something from my parents’ childhood i.e. tin baths / wartime."

I can assure you that Saturday night bath night was a well known saying in the 80s and I don't remember anyone at school saying they had a bath every day.

LynetteScavo · 16/08/2020 16:35

Every morning, but I don't wash my hair every day.

If I've had a crappy day at work I'll come home and have a shower. If I then go to a spin class (not likely atm) I'll come home and have another shower before bed.

I very rarely have a bath.

LynetteScavo · 16/08/2020 16:38

Your partner smells right after a shower? Somethings not right there

FastFood · 16/08/2020 16:39

I have a shower everyday, although I generally have a lazy day per week (it's today 😬)
I wash my hair just once a week though.

Never have bath, makes my blood pressure drop and my heart rate goes all over the place.

ElizabethWoodviIIe · 16/08/2020 17:35

We had a shower installed in 1987. Until then bath night was every Saturday - I remember sitting with wet hair in front of the fire eating chips and watching Blind Date. Utter bliss.

Once we had the shower installed my mother tried to initiate 'shower night' but we soon got in the habit of daily showering.

On a side note, we also had our first indoor toilet installed at the same time as the shower. My mother was horrified at the idea of people pooing in the house because she deemed it unhygienic. If we wanted to (and I quote) 'pass solids', we still had to it in the outside toilet. A dicky tummy at night in midwinter - or autumn, my god the spiders - was not fun at all, let me tell you!

Mummyshark2019 · 16/08/2020 17:48

Shower every morning and wash hair. Sometimes shower before bed if was very hot and sweated during day.

CoronaIsShit · 16/08/2020 19:21

I don’t take a shower twice a day because I have a psychological issue where I think I smell after 12 hours Angelina!

I have one in the evening because I will have been to the gym or done some kind of exercise or rushing about, then I have one in the morning because I’ll probably have sex during the night and even if not a quick shower wakes me up.

I’m assuming that those who only shower a few times a week don’t move much or have much of a sex life?

Surely a shower is quicker and less messy than a wash at the sink if you’re going to have a proper wash Gwen?

I have great skin because I drink lots of water and exercise so don’t need to use that excuse to be a soap dodgerGrin.

BunniesLoveBananas · 16/08/2020 20:41

My DH's pits smell right after a shower too

He put deo on otherwise I can smell them as soon as he comes to he after a shower

SpeckledyHen · 16/08/2020 20:50

Every morning shower and hair wash and again in the evening if going out . Why wouldn’t you want to be clean ?

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 22:09

"Surely a shower is quicker and less messy than a wash at the sink if you’re going to have a proper wash Gwen?"

No, it's really not. I have explained what the showers I use are like and I do understand that MNers might have better, more powerful showers that are at the right temperature the second you put them on, but mine is not.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 22:11

"Every morning shower and hair wash and again in the evening if going out . Why wouldn’t you want to be clean ?"

  1. Heat wave and exercise aside, if I had a shower in the morning, I'll still be clean in the evening.
  2. Reasons why not to be clean in the way you mean i.e. overclean are to do with waste of water and electricity and drying out your skin. You don't need to shower twice a day.
britINscotland · 17/08/2020 07:38

every day.

You can totally tell those who don't shower every day because they stink!

eg I know a woman at my dance class who dresses very nice, lots of makeup but absolutely stinks and I hate being partnered with her and as such try to position myself at the other end of the room so its not me. We've had a couple of class nights out where again she's very well dressed but still stinks.

If you shower EOD then are your clothes washed and ironed regularly (more than once a week) because BO can stick to your clothes too.

Unless there is a medical reason, you should shower daily. The thought of shagging a man who doesn't wash daily is just gross.

britINscotland · 17/08/2020 07:39

PS I used to work in a supermarket, and do the morning shift on the first till, so everyone would come to me for their morning rolls and papers before having their shower. I felt physically ill.
