To ask how often you shower?

I only shower 3-4 times a week, to be honest. Is that gross? I especially will skip a shower if my hair looks good.

I do, however, change undies every morning.

When I did Pilates I never needed a shower afterwards, same with yoga. I know there are more energetic varieties of both, but I never sweated much in mine, makes them good options for work lunchtime exercise.

SerenDippitty · 16/08/2020 12:06

I do need one after mine. I’m pretty knackered after it.

ElizabethWoodviIIe · 16/08/2020 12:06

Never.

I don't have a shower.

Meant to say especially during the hot weather we’ve been having but even before that.
Dancingalong · 16/08/2020 12:15

Every day sometimes twice a day if I’ve been to the gym.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/08/2020 12:24

@Arrivederla I can only assume you are quite young. Back when I was a child , it was pretty standard to have a bath once a week. I don't think anyone I knew actually had a shower in their house. We had a bath once a week, and hair wash. And a shower once a week after swimming. We had a sink wash, with soap and a flannel the rest of the time.

Also, there is no shower in my house. Therefore I can't just "jump in the shower".

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2020 12:56

"Back when I was a child , it was pretty standard to have a bath once a week."

This was definitely the case in the 80s. Saturday nights were bath nights.
Since the 90s I've lived in places with showers, but none of them have been good enough that I can just 'jump in the shower'. They've all needed to have the water run for a bit to warm up or they've taken time for the proper temperature to be found. I also feel the need to put body lotion on after every shower, which I don't need to do after a face, pits and bits wash. I have also never had the option of switching the water off and on during the shower as it would take too much time to get it back to the right temperature.
I imagine it's easier if you have a power shower or something.

I am 60. Confused

We didn't have a shower when I was a child either but what's that got to do with anything? There is nothing to stop most people having a shower or bath every day now.

I'll never forget the total embarrassment of moving to a Scandinavian country about 35 years ago to work as a EFL teacher. We were a group of about 20 new teachers and we were firmly told that we all had to shower every day because the students complained that teachers from England smelled awful because they didn't always shower. I was outraged - of course English people showered every day! Then my colleagues started complaining about having to wash every day ... I mean - what the actual fuck? What is wrong with people? Jump in the shower!!

Arrivederla · 16/08/2020 13:13

If you haven't got a shower then have a bath but far more economical to have a shower fitted.

ElizabethWoodviIIe · 16/08/2020 13:30

I live in a council flat and we're not allowed to have showers fitted (unless there's an accessibility requirement).

It's not possible to bathe every day if you're on a water meter and/or have to budget gas/electricity carefully, particularly in the winter when you need to spend more on heating.

We bathe two or three times a week and have washes in between. I wash my hair daily using a jug over the bath. When I'm away anywhere where there's a shower I have one once or twice a day - if I had one at home I'd do the same.

Arrivederla · 16/08/2020 13:32

Sorry to hear that Elizabeth - it sounds very unfair not being allowed to have a shower fitted.

BunniesLoveBananas · 16/08/2020 13:39

I shower daily

I often spend about 20 mins showering but I only wash my hair even other day

But I think showering every day for 5 minutes is better than showering less than that for a longer shower each time

If I'm standing close to someone (such as at work) I think I can tell whether they have showered or not

I think people think that if you can't smell sweat then there's no smell but sweat and oils on skin and scalp have a smell too and you simply don't smell fresh as you would jd you'd showered in the morning

Also I do find it a bit gross you don't shower after exercising

BunniesLoveBananas · 16/08/2020 13:43

*Do you find the French unhygienic? By your standard, they're 'dirty'.

Why do they live longer than us? Why are they slimmer? Why is their skin fabulous?*

Probably not because they don't shower daily Hmm

I see you have a bidet OP and I think this makes a big difference if you won't shower daily

misschoices · 16/08/2020 13:51

@BunniesLoveBananas

It may be a factor- the microbiome isn't washed away 1-3 times a day like some of these posters.

misschoices · 16/08/2020 13:53

@BunniesLoveBananas

I don't smell, someone in my family would have said so.

Why don't you worry about your own body odour and scent? Clearly some people need a shower twice or even three times a day. Wink

Your original post

Most people on this thread have said that they shower at least once a day, often more.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/08/2020 13:58

@Arrivederla apologies, my assumption that you were young was based on this:

OMG - why would you do that? How can you wash everywhere properly in the sink? Are you getting your feet in there and washing them?

If you are 60, surely you understand how you wash in a sink?

I can't put a shower in my house, it would cost thousands to totally revamp my bathroom. I can't put one over the bath due to the eaves. I don't have the money at the moment. I'd like to.

Mummadeeze · 16/08/2020 14:00

I shower and wash my hair every morning. It is part of my daily routine. When it was really hot the other day I had three showers in one day as I was so sweaty!

It's been many, many years since I washed in a sink ImFree!

Sorry to hear that you can't add a shower though, that must be tricky. Smile

Marble2302 · 16/08/2020 14:03

I never shower....

I do have a bath everyday sometimes twice. I like a lovely long soak before bed.

I was born in the late 60s, so grew up in the 70s and 80s. We didn’t have a proper shower installed until the 80s but we had a bath every night until then. “Bath night” once a week sounds like something from my parents’ childhood i.e. tin baths / wartime.
BunniesLoveBananas · 16/08/2020 14:05

You asked a question OP but you don't seem to like some of the answers.

I don't believe I smell either but I don't wait to smell to have a shower. Even if you don't smell bad, you will not smell clean.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/08/2020 14:05

@Arrivederla

It's a bloody nuisance if I'm honest, especially in the hit weather we've had.

My point really, was that people make assumptions, about being dirty, lazy, having access to a shower, finances etc.

I'd use FAR less water having a daily shower, my house is old, the bath is huge. Even a shallow bath takes loads of water.

But I do wash, and I don't smell.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/08/2020 14:08

@DollyDoneMore my parents were not well off. Actually, scrap that, they were poor. Scraping around for 50p for the meter poor. They couldnt afford a bath every night. That aplied to many of our friends and family.

MrsExpo · 16/08/2020 14:08

Every day, usually in the evening. (Look after horses in the afternoon, and no-one wants to smell stables over dinner!!). Can't imagine not showering daily.
