or 6 weeks if they broke quarantine twice.

AIBU to think thank goodness the rules are being enforced, and this should be happening far more widely.

Fines are massive as well, ten thousand £

Smile

This is what we need, a bit of teeth in the regulations

The isle of Man (and Guernsey) have maintained near zero cases by strict guidelines and quarantine, so flouting them could undo all their good work. Sounds like this bloke didn't give a stuff, he had symptoms, didn't get tested them went out for a 2 hour dog walk.

However if he's said he was just testing his eyesight he would have been ok!

Mum45678 · 07/08/2020 15:01

100% agree with @MrsTerryPratchett on this. Slippery slope.

unmarkedbythat · 07/08/2020 15:09

God, I'd hate to work in the prisons quarantine breakers were sent to.

DotBall · 07/08/2020 15:11

As someone upthread said, this article is from April. Very old news. When your island has barely any population it’s little sweat to police it.

LizzieBlackwell · 07/08/2020 15:13

@MrsTerryPratchett

I'm in favour of good guidelines.

I am not in favour of civil liberties being stripped with massive consequences if you disobey. Have people not read 1984?

Bloody this!! And I agree with PP this is terrifying.
CatherinedeBourgh · 07/08/2020 15:14

Thank goodness there are still people like mrs tp around.

I have lived in a totalitarian country. Believe me, their better outcome with covid in NOT worth giving up your freedom for.

Absolutely.
Chocolateoo · 07/08/2020 15:16

I wouldnt mind but they just let a local 60 old looking at child porn off the hook, because he was lonely. So no I don't think they should be sent to prison when actual predators are allowed to be free...

Justice system is a joke in the UK as it is. Boris wants to stop being an idiot first. Pubs are allowed open and no masks. Obvious you can't drink with a mask. But in that case shut the pubs? Drink people often make silly choices.

As for parents not being allowed in the playground in September but can go to zoos, parks and the rest with the kids.... Everything is backwards.

This, in absolute spades.

MrsSnitchnose · 07/08/2020 15:19

@SchadenfreudePersonified There are already more demonstrations happening all over the country tomorrow. The total unrest is closer than people think.

I fully agree with everything @MrsTerryPratchett has said and I don't see how the example in the article should be held up as something to aim for

DailyKegelReminder · 07/08/2020 15:21

People laughed at the memes on social media a few weeks/months ago but yet here we are and quickly.

"What you in for mate?"

"Fraud, what about you"

"Went to see my nan for an hour"

Madness.

Moonshinemisses · 07/08/2020 15:22

I bloody hope this doesn't start happening. In prisons we are overpopulated, understaffed, no visits so tensions are running high, I hope to god they dont pile more shite on us. Maybe the rule breakers can go stay at chequers with the fools who keep changing the fucking goal posts around what's allowed and what isn't.

SockYarn · 07/08/2020 15:23

police are smashing car windows and dragging people out of their cars for refusing to give names, addresses and reasons for being out

And that's something we really want to aspire to? Fucks sake.

Ladderinmytights · 07/08/2020 15:23

@MrsTerryPratchett has it spot on.

Crankley · 07/08/2020 15:24

An absurd waste of time and money.

And of course, the OP never returns to her own thread...

JacobReesMogadishu · 07/08/2020 15:31

Boris said we could use our common sense. 🤷‍♀️ I’d argue that taking the dog for a walk on a deserted beach (if it was) is using your judgement/common sense.

No, that's not what I said Hmm
MaxNormal · 07/08/2020 15:31

That's horrifying. Not a country I want to live in. I don't really want to be dragged out of a car window either thanks very much.

CallarMorvern · 07/08/2020 15:33

An absurd waste of time and money.

Seems to have worked fairly well. This was a while ago, during lockdown, and not one off offences. Residents can now travel anywhere, but need to isolate on return for 14 days. There is a £10,000 fine or jail time for those that don't isolate, this is necessary as there are always some idiots who think they are above the law.

As a result islanders are living a normal, mask free, no self distancing life.

Scary is it. And the worst part is we have people grinning and nodding their head in appraisal.

Heavy fine - yes.
Jail - absolutely not

Means tested heavy fine. What's Dominic Cummings' net worth? Grin

HeIenaDove · 07/08/2020 15:44

100% agree with @MrsTerryPratchett

SatanicDesk · 07/08/2020 15:46

Yes @MrsTerryPratchett totally agree!
