Three questions:

  1. what is the series called?
  2. what genre is it?
  3. how did it make you feel?

Just bought a spin bike and am planning on watching an episode a night and exercising at the same time. Need some suggestions. I'm open to anything!

Detectorists.

Comedy about blokes with metal detectors. It's excellent.

Mytinyman · 28/07/2020 17:27

Shakespeare and hathaway comedy/drama about private investigatiors. A lovely, cosy watch

redbigbananafeet · 28/07/2020 17:27

Line of Duty

stepstepslide · 28/07/2020 17:29

The Shield. Crime drama. Edge of my seat stuff needing to put the next episode on immediately. Couldn't believe there was a show better than Breaking Bad.

Think it's still on more 4 in the box sets section.

Hunters on Amazon prime.
You won't be able to stop at one episode a night though

Lucifer - a crime drama about the Lord of Darkness taking a holiday from Hell, in LA, and getting involved with solving crime. It’s funny, and good crime drama, and Lucifer himself is a) serious eye candy and b) a sympathetic character.

Buffy the vampire slayer - does what it says on the tin.

Grays Anatomy - medical drama.

If you like Grays, then Chicago Med is good too - and it has sibling series you can also binge watch - Chicago Fire (firemen, stars Jesse from Neighbours) and Chicago PD - police drama. They sometimes have two or three-way crossover episodes.

Happy Valley is gritty police drama, starring Sarah Lancashire. DCI Ryan - also police procedural drama.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/07/2020 18:05

Oh - I forgot:

The Crown (Netflix) - about Queen Elizabeth II - fascinating.

The Tudors - not entirely historically accurate, but entertaining costume drama. Jonathon Rhys Myers makes a very believable Henry VIII initially, but is less convincing as the later Henry - he is still too handsome and slim. Great fun, though.

Dinnerladies - Victoria Wood’s comedy, set in a Manchester factory canteen - can make you laugh and cry.

'This is us' on amazon prime. Also watched whilst using exercise bike. Made me want to stay on bike longer Grin

GinDaddyRedux · 28/07/2020 18:40
  1. Hey Duggee
  2. Factual/documentary
  3. Mildly concerned about the tuition and parenting system in the UK that leads to a dog providing after school life-skill classes for disparate animal children
SuePerb · 28/07/2020 18:44

Schitt's Creek was fab.

Motoko · 28/07/2020 18:49

We've just finished 6 series of Community on Netflix. It's a comedy about a bunch of students at a community college. They range in age from 20s to 60s.

Before that we watched Fringe. Sci-fi drama about an FBI team who investigate weird things and a parallel universe. The characters are really good.

Might try Devs on BBC i-Player next.

zara020 · 28/07/2020 18:51

Prison Break! 5 seasons of absolutely gripping storyline!! (And Wentworth Miller Cake)

zara020 · 28/07/2020 18:54

Sorry ... 2. Crime thriller 3. Made me watch and watch and watch just because every episode was like a cliffhanger. Very well written

DivisionBelles · 28/07/2020 18:55

The Bridge - Swedish/Danish detective drama.
Gruesome in parts and very addictive.
Subtitled, but I find it makes me concentrate and draws me into the drama more.

Clift19 · 28/07/2020 19:05

Sons of anarchy- follows the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle clubb_ operating in Charming, a fictional town in California's Central Valley . crime, bikes, guns and Charlie Hunnam 😍

Vikings - follows the life of Ragnor Lothbrook on the raids and lives of vikings coming to England.

The tudors - not historically accurate but a good drama with great cast.

Downtown abbey - excellent drama about the live of lords, ladies and the servants of their houses (1940s onwards).

NCIS - naval criminal investigative service, crime drama focusing on American naval crimes.

Nurse Jackie - ER nurse, drug addict having an affair. Comedy. (Don't watch with your kids or parents! 😂)

Bloodylegoeverywhere · 28/07/2020 19:09

We recently watched into the night on netflix. A Belgium 6 part series on people escaping on a plane as the sun is killing people. Strangely good. Now watching the rain on netflix, Danish series where the rain kills people... think there's a theme going on 🙂

Croprotationinthe14thcentury · 28/07/2020 19:12

The Wire
Crime drama set in Baltimore
Absolutely freaking awesome. Dialogue is very hard to follow though so make sure you put on the subtitles!

Beamur · 28/07/2020 19:24

The Umbrella Academy. Second series being released next month.
Adapted from a graphic novel, fun, well plotted, great characters. Sort of dysfunction super heroes but not, bit of time traveling..
Detectorists is a great show too - very different.

Ireolu · 28/07/2020 19:25

The wire crime drama. Very good but a very slow burner.
