Three questions:

  1. what is the series called?
  2. what genre is it?
  3. how did it make you feel?

Just bought a spin bike and am planning on watching an episode a night and exercising at the same time. Need some suggestions. I'm open to anything!

I’ve really gone off American TV recently

So mine are
bonus family , lovely and relatable drama about a Swedish blended family
Giji Hari , a Japanese British family crime drama , really good and different
Shtisel , lovely show about an orthodox Jewish family , just beautifully made
Srugim, about a group of friends in Jerusalem , also lovely and so relatable

But did love Schitts Creek and Greys Smile

Nosuchluck · 30/07/2020 17:50

Thisisworsethananticpated you may like Ancestral Land (Russian)

Thisisworsethananticpated · 30/07/2020 19:06

Oh what channel
I love subtitled TV at the moment !

Nosuchluck · 30/07/2020 19:53

Amazon Prime, I watched a lot of foreign stuff during lockdown, I'm almost fluent in many languages!!
My Brilliant Friend (Italian on Sky) is well brilliant.

Allthebestusernameshavegone · 30/07/2020 23:06

Orphan Black is amazing, women discovered they were clones and set about keeping eachother safe from the organisation who created them.

Just finished Ozark about a guy who launders for a drug cartel. Bit slow to start but I enjoyed and worth a watch.

Manifest- absolutely brilliant about a plane that disappears and lands five years later.

Homeland- CIA drama

Designated Survivor about a guy who becomes president by default when a bomb explodes killing the president.

White Collar- about a forger who ends up working for the FBI. Brilliant series and very funny.

@Greydove28 - I am completely addicted to this show - I wanted to recommend it, but thought it wasn't a terribly Mumsnet-ty programme! I've raced through the main series over the last couple of weeks and am now on the penultimate season of the Med version, then I'm planning to wean myself off by watching the only available season of Sailing...

Who'd win in a fight between Chief Stews do you reckon? Kate or Hannah? I'm pretty scared of both of them!

FaiIWorseAgain · 31/07/2020 00:30

1: Lucifer
2: Comic/detective/will they, won't they?
3: Horny
Wink Grin

genuinely, never fancied Tom Ellis in Miranda but by God, is he charismatic in this. (irl he's on the list for doing Tamzin Outhwaite dirty)

FaiIWorseAgain · 31/07/2020 00:34
  1. Casual
  2. Dysfunctional family dynamics/relationships, dramedy?
  3. Normal well, more normal

Lucifer is on Prime and last series on Netflix
Casual is on Prime

biddybird · 31/07/2020 01:43

Damages
US legal drama/thriller
gripping

Also second The Wire, Mad Men and Sons of Anarchy.
I've heard the Sopranos is highly recommended but I haven't watched that yet.

octoberfarm · 31/07/2020 02:29

Outlander (historical drama/romance - whole mix of emotions) & Normal People (drama /sort of romance but just so beautifully written and acted, mostly happy and a bit despairing at times)!

lookingatthepast · 31/07/2020 03:45

People just do nothing
Mockumentry about a pirate radio station in Essex . It’s brilliant and the only thing I have ever binge watched

exiledfromcornwall · 31/07/2020 20:25

Have just finished watching A Dance To The Music Of Time on All4. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I realise it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is series like this that are getting me through the pandemic, Anything that lets me lose myself in a bygone age I find so therapeutic.

ChickenNugget86 · 02/08/2020 17:40

I absolutely love 90 day fiance. Its trashy TV but I'm hooked. So many seasons of it also to get stuck into.
It's a reality show about US men and women who fall in love with others abroad. They move to USA on a K1 visa and have 90 days to get married or they have to leave. A variety of strange couples, some work well others are a disaster.
It also has a version where they visit abroad also. It's on TLC but also BT have it on the demand feature.

Out of interest I'm looking at getting an exercise bike to get fitter and loose weight? Are they any good?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/08/2020 13:55

I like a bit of trashy tv too, @ChickenNugget86 - I am rather fond of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders - making the team. Blush

Dh and I are binge watching our way through Buffy, at the moment.

EmbarrassedUser · 04/08/2020 14:07

Crazy Ex Girlfriend on Netflix is so funny. I’ve been stepping away to that one and laughing so much. Jane the Virgin, also NetFlix and also hilarious. Orange is the New Black, fantastic. Lucifer (yay to new series this month!)

EmbarrassedUser · 04/08/2020 14:08

Then the classic Friends. Could watch that on repeat easily.

Lansonmaid · 04/08/2020 14:11

Waking the dead- police drama about a team investigating cold cases. Can be a bit gruesome at time though but it’s got a tremendous cast

MrsMariaReynolds · 04/08/2020 14:19

Friday Night Lights, American drama about a small Texas town and their high school football team (skip most of series 2 because the story line completely loses it's way). Kyle Chandler is dreamy!

The Killing, the original Scandi thriller, a slow-burn Danish classic about the disappearance and murder of a teenager and the ripple effect on the people and community surrounding it, and That Jumper.

Blueeyedpixie · 04/08/2020 14:23

Usually Friends but recently The Durrells.

  1. The Durrells
  2. Comedy, based on real life
  3. humble, relieved, adventurous & like I was on holiday

The best thing for my very near “breakdown” so far.

Sad I got to the end Sad but have bought all the books instead to continue the journey

MrsMariaReynolds · 04/08/2020 14:23

@ChickenNugget86 Are you watching the recent 90 Day Fiancee: The Other Way? I am absolutely hooked!

I cannot understand how these people willingly move to another country to be with someone they barely know. I moved abroad with DH after 8 years of marriage and even that was really, really hard on our relationship!

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 04/08/2020 14:24

The fall - crime thriller on Netflix
Condor spy thriller in now TV
The Crown

CaveMum · 04/08/2020 14:28

The West Wing - US political drama. Quite possibly one of THE best tv shows ever made. Nothing is dumbed down, you’re just expected to follow the story!

And for a polar opposite:

Cheer - Netflix documentary about a cheerleading squad in Texas. Inspiring (how do they do THAT?!) and horrifying (sooo many injuries) in equal measure.

User87471643901065319 · 04/08/2020 14:41

Line of duty.
Heroes.
Scorpion.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 04/08/2020 14:42

Also recommend
This is us
Suits
The Crown

Heartland - homely, comforting- Canadians horsing around on a ranch

Steele Magnolias- Southern Gilmore Girls for grown ups

Below Deck & spin offs - reality tv show where the few of a luxury yacht serve for rich spoilt guests

ChickenNugget86 · 04/08/2020 15:01

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius - now that sounds like my kind of show! Will have to look for it.

@MrsMariaReynolds - I descovered the show a few years ago and got hooked. I have watched them all apart from series 1 on the main show. Before the 90 days, what now, happily ever after..... There are so many. Paul and Karines journey has been so awkward to watch at times. They've moved back to the US and apparently she's took the baby off away from him, social media is full of them at the moment.
