Three questions:

  1. what is the series called?
  2. what genre is it?
  3. how did it make you feel?

Just bought a spin bike and am planning on watching an episode a night and exercising at the same time. Need some suggestions. I'm open to anything!

Mum
Comedy
Absolutely beautiful and heart warming and made me feel happy

unchienandalusia · 29/07/2020 08:32

I'll second This is Us. Someone recommended it on here. I wouldn't have tried it otherwise as it looked a bit cheesy but it's brilliant.

Have also started Grey's Anatomy from the beginning and loving it just as much.

Star Trek discovery is also brilliant.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 29/07/2020 14:56

Outlander on Amazon Prime

Historical/Time travel drama set in Jacobite Rebellion Scotland

Beautifully shot with strong female central character and ahem, some very sensual scenes.

I also admit I have a huge crush on Jamie Fraser (fetches fan)

Notenoughchocolateomg · 29/07/2020 22:19

Killing eve-was told what it was about and thought nah. Mum kept raving it, so I watched it. One of the best shows ever.
Fargo-absolutely fantastic show. Martin Freeman is utterly fabulous in it. Based on real life events, which is shocking considering what happens.

IntoTheUnknown27 · 29/07/2020 22:22

I am totally in love with This is Us. I'm not exaggerating - best thing I have ever watched. It's so bloody moving.

IntoTheUnknown27 · 29/07/2020 22:24

Don't laugh at me but I have totally binge watched Cheers 😂

MarshaBradyo · 29/07/2020 22:25

Into me too

Especially Kev, Randall, Deja and the Uncle
Oh and the teens

Tillygetsit · 30/07/2020 00:17

Preacher.
A violent hilarious surreal series about an alcoholic preacher with a past (Dominic Cooper 😍) his feisty on/off girlfriend and a hedonistic Irish vampire (who used to be Eli Dingle in Emmerdale.
On series 3 which is the best so far and makes me laugh, cringe, jump and horny!

Bluetit101 · 30/07/2020 10:14

Another vote for 'This Is Us' !
It's just amazing. Funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and I've never felt so invested in characters in a tv show. I can't recommend it enough. You will love it.

Another one is 'Wentworth' on Amazon Prime. Remake of Prisoner Cell Block H and bloody brilliant! I've watched it all about 4 times.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 30/07/2020 13:22

No recs for either

I May Destroy You - staggeringly original adult drama. Made me feel grateful to be alive at a time when such a thing could be made.

or

My Brilliant Friend - fabulously executed adaptation of post-war Italian fictionalised biog. Intensely emotional portrayal of female friendship. Possibly the most immersive TV series I've ever watched.

Clarinsmum · 30/07/2020 13:55

Queen of the South on Netflix
Drama with South American cartel drug traffickers
Strong female characters, violent but very watchable

AllsortsofAwkward · 30/07/2020 14:02

Buffy
The vampire diarys
The originals
Awkard
The handmaid's tale
Gossip girl

whattimeisitrightnow · 30/07/2020 14:02

Ooh, I loved Orphan Black! Definitely watch that, OP, it’s so good. Anne with an E is another good one - very heartwarming.

contrmary · 30/07/2020 14:08

South Park
Comedy
Made me laugh

Episodes only 20 mins or so, easy to fit as many into a session as you like.

jessstan2 · 30/07/2020 14:15

Apart from Call the Midwife, Downton and the Crown, all of which I've rewatched recently:

Broadchurch

Liar

Flesh and Blood

All three are 'crime' though the last one doesn't have a crime until the end.

I felt that things are never quite what they seem, everyone has secrets.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 30/07/2020 14:33

Years and years
Last tango in Halifax
The detectorists
Line of duty
Happy valley
After life
Derek
The young offenders
Two doors down
Fleabag
Luther
Derry girls

Looking forward to trying some on here I’ve not heard of

SomewhereInbetween1 · 30/07/2020 14:38

The Good Place - comedy about the afterlife
Mindhunter - thriller about documenting serial killers for psychology studies and the FBI

And if we're going into trashy guilt pleasure territory, Outlander, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and How I Met Your Mother.

BinkyBoinky · 30/07/2020 14:56

I recently watched a series on Netflix. I can recommend it but it's not perfect especially the script/plot holes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

  1. what is the series called? Cursed

  2. what genre is it? Fantasy/Arthurian

  3. how did it make you feel? Hmm well I fancied Merlin and the Weeping Monk characters, so I enjoyed watching them. Grin The main characters Nimue and Arthur bored me stiff. Good storyline which kept me hooked and great magical/forest scenery. Skips along at a fast pace.

stepstepslide · 30/07/2020 16:04

Loving all of these suggestions! Just started I May Destroy you. It's bloody brilliance!

Nosuchluck · 30/07/2020 16:15

Shitzel, I guess it's a fami!y drama set in Jerusalem. It made me feel well just lovely, it's so good. I watch 24 (2 series) in about a week.

This is us (series 1) family drama

Nosuchluck · 30/07/2020 16:16

The OA , sort of science fiction, pure brilliance.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/07/2020 16:22

@stepstepslide - definitely team McDreamy!

I forgot to mention Grimm - basically Grimms are people who can see the monsters who co-exist with us and can hide their true selves behind a normal human face, and the central character is a Portland police detective who finds out he is a Grimm, and starts seeing the other creatures (known as Wessen - German for beasts). Unlike other Grimms, he doesn’t see all Wessen as evil/bad, and he becomes friends with some - and he starts to see where the supernatural is involved in the crimes he is investigating.

hellsbellsmelons · 30/07/2020 16:50

Orphan Black
Black comedy, action, adventure, sci-fi - bit of everything really.
It was so good. Dark humour. Gruesome in places. The main actress is absolutely fan-fucking-tastic
Great story line - great twists and turns.
I was on the edge of my seat through most of it.

hellsbellsmelons · 30/07/2020 16:53

There are loads but this one was my favourite by far.
I think 'This is us' is my next stop, looking at this thread!

Dustyroad63 · 30/07/2020 16:59

I'm currently watching Big Little Lies first season. And loving it.
It also has the most beautiful theme tune too.
