Without the risk of this turning into a huge debate/slanging match. What are some films that everyone loves but you think are overrated

I'll start with True Romance

OP posts:
Toilenstripes · 17/07/2020 12:47

Love Actually.

SquishyBones · 17/07/2020 12:48

Shawshank Redemption. I watched it for the first time last week and yeah ... it’s a decent film but not as amazing as people make it out to be!

SedentaryCat · 17/07/2020 12:48

Dirty Dancing

Nandakanda · 17/07/2020 12:49

English Patient.

ScuttleBug1 · 17/07/2020 12:52

The Greatest Showman, Dirty Dancing and Bridget Jones.

Soubriquet · 17/07/2020 12:54

Dirty dancing
The Joker (wasn’t that good I thought)

ElsieMc · 17/07/2020 12:59

Just about everything on Netflix my sil recommends. He rarely watches TV and some of the quality stuff on BBC in particular is better. He refuses to believe this until he watched Broadchurch for the first time recently. I also recommended Keeping Faith but he is still refusing that. I find it bizarre, is it some kind of snobbery.

Love Actually is cringeworthy. About a Boy is a truer representation of Hugh Grant, he said so himself.

peakygal · 17/07/2020 13:00

Harry Potter
Star Wars
Fast and Furious
Spiderman
Mamma Mia
Green Mile

I could go on

NeutralJanet · 17/07/2020 13:02

Avatar. Pretty CGI, shite storyline and annoying characters.

HappyDinosaur · 17/07/2020 13:02

The Godfather (nothingy), Avatar (so long) and Mama Mia (oh dear). My taste is probably a bit odd though.

1wokeuplikethis · 17/07/2020 13:05

The revenant- complete wanky bollocks.

3hrs of looking at trees and lakes.

Bear fight was decent so 99% shite.

Busybusybust · 17/07/2020 13:06

La la land. It bored me stupid.

leiaskye · 17/07/2020 13:07

Titanic

mrsBtheparker · 17/07/2020 13:10

Another vote for Titanic, I actually fell asleep and when I woke up it still hadn't sunk.

I tend to dislike 'worthy' films, the ones with a very blatent message, I generally want to be entertained by a film.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 17/07/2020 13:10

Avatar, Pearl Harbour, love Actually, pretty woman

Bluebell878275 · 17/07/2020 13:11

Frozen

KANNET · 17/07/2020 13:11

inception.

I watched it when it came out and found it boring, all special effects and very little actual story. I tried it agin recently just in case I had missed something as so many people rave about it, I got half way through. It's just terrible and as a die hard Leo fan that's hard to say

Gumbo · 17/07/2020 13:12

Pulp Fiction

Feellikethegrimreaper · 17/07/2020 13:13

A star is born, everyone went on about how amazing it was. Just didnt get the hype at all!

Spied · 17/07/2020 13:14

Already mentioned but I watched Pretty Woman a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how it became such a cult film.
Likewise Sleeping with the Ememy.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 17/07/2020 13:14

Raging Bull

SquishyBones · 17/07/2020 13:15

At what point can we turn this into an argument? Someone has just called The Godfather over-rated and I feel that is argument worthy ... 😁

Planesmistakenforstars · 17/07/2020 13:18

Gladiator

Fleeflyyflooo · 17/07/2020 13:19

Fight club

Nymeriastark1 · 17/07/2020 13:20

La la land. Nearly fell asleep.
