What’s the problem with Trans?

Karenista · 14/07/2020 17:32

Posting for traffic:
Can someone please take the time to explain to me what the issue is with trans women? Or trans rights in general?

I consider myself a feminist, but since reading all the posts about publicly ‘coming out as GC’, I now feel... almost... not feminist enough because I believe in trans rights.

Where’s the middle ground? Or am I now going to feel alienated from ‘GC feminists?’

Hoppinggreen · 14/07/2020 17:33

Why don’t you tell us what you think the “problem with Trans” is?

DancingLady · 14/07/2020 17:34

SarahTancredi · 14/07/2020 17:35

What rights are we talking?

They already have rights enshrined in law.

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/07/2020 17:36

🤣. Is that you John?

topoftheshops · 14/07/2020 17:36

What is GC?

Iggypoppie · 14/07/2020 17:36

There is no problem with "Trans" as you put it. There are concerns however about rendering the word woman meaningless in terms of law, social policy and sport to name a few areas. If that doesn't concern you then that's your choice.

catgirl1976 · 14/07/2020 17:37

There is no problem with trans people or trans rights.

There is a problem where one group wishes to expand their rights by encroaching on the rights of the other group. For example the right to single sex spaces.

However women are oppressed on the basis of their sex. There are two sexes. If “ female”now includes “male” women lose the ability to organise themselves as a sex class and oppose sex based oppression. Which is kind of the point of feminism. Clue is in the name.

What rights don't trans people have?

DadOnIce · 14/07/2020 17:37

What does 'believe in trans rights' mean? Does it mean you believe trans people should have the same rights as everyone else (which they currently do), or that they should have new rights they don't currently have?

gamerchick · 14/07/2020 17:38

It always puzzles me when people talk about 'rights'. What rights do people think trans people don't have?

I really want to know the answer to this because it boggles my head.

DancingLady · 14/07/2020 17:38

OP, what rights do trans people not have, which you think they should have? Genuinely curious.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/07/2020 17:38

I'll bite. Cis women are trying to protect women's spaces. Amongst many other things.

midgebabe · 14/07/2020 17:39

Correction

Women , of many different genders but one common sex, are trying to protect women's spaces

gamerchick · 14/07/2020 17:39

Please don't cis. It's a horrible word.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 14/07/2020 17:41

@netflixismysidehustle oh boy.

Use of correct pronouns
Gender Reassignment discrimination
Inappropriate Questions
Equality Monitoring
Less chance of accessing Further and Higher Education
Less chance of accessing the correct health and social care for their needs.
Hate Crime!!!!
Sexual Violence and Abuse
DISCRIMINATION (especially on Mumsnet)

Would you like me to elaborate further?

netflixismysidehustle · 14/07/2020 17:41

People who believe in God respect that others are atheist and vice versa. There's no attempt by either side to change the other persons mind.

Many activists who believe that gender trumps biology think that people who think the opposite are bigots and need to change their views to their side immediately. Why can't people think that biology trumps gender?

DancingLady · 14/07/2020 17:43

Please do elaborate amijust do trans people not have access to further education? How so?

Soubriquet · 14/07/2020 17:43

Once a week at least we have this thread

Once.A.Week

If you were that keen to know, you would look at other threads instead of coming all doe eyed and faux innocent of “but why are you women all so mean”

midgebabe · 14/07/2020 17:44

Oh I thought they wanted to use pronouns incorrectly, to refer to a gender identity and not their sex?

DancingLady · 14/07/2020 17:44

Also, if the biggest problem you have is someone using incorrect pronouns (yes I know that misgendering is LITERALLY killing trans people) then you're leading a charmed life.

PurpleButterflyAway · 14/07/2020 17:45

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned you’re both paranoid and stoned if you think that’s what’s happening to transwomen. It’s not, it’s happening to biological women. Statistically speaking, transwomen are the least likely to experience any of those things. It is safer to be a transwomen than it is to be a biological male these days.

Karenista · 14/07/2020 17:45

So we’re talking dressing rooms, public toilets etc? Thanks for clarifying.

I’m afraid I’m not here for an argument - I just wanted some clarification on how people feel; I don’t really know how to answer what I think the problem is, or what rights they don’t have.

If it’s about protecting space then I understand why people feel like that.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 14/07/2020 17:45

@DancingLady hi, there is much evidence to suggest that trans people are less likely to be allowed access to education because of discrimination.
