Is being a short man equivalent to a women who is overweight?

DreamChaser23 · 09/07/2020 17:03

i had this discussion with someone and I feel there is some truth in it.

Men who are overweight get away a lot more than women who are overweight I.e. relationships aren't as negatively affected compared to women.

And short women in height don't suffer as much as short men. Just look at how the media made people believe that most ideal men are meant to be tall over 6 feet. When in reality the average height of men is around 5 foot 9 IN the US and 5 foot 10 UK.

Being a short man and a women who is overweight does make it harder when it comes to relationships

OP posts:

I prefer shorter men (stocky ones)
Some men like chubby women.

Swings and roundabouts. Not many of us are supermodels really, now are we?

ArriettyJones · 09/07/2020 17:06

WTF? Confused

Being short is (equivalent to) being short.

Being overweight is (equivalent to) being overweight.

Dinosforall · 09/07/2020 17:07

You can't change your height though.

PumpkinP · 09/07/2020 17:30

I do kind of get what the op is saying. Overweight women are judged more harshly than overweight men and short men are judged more than short women. Most women do prefer tall men, despite how many will say how much they love short guys on here but in reality most women prefer tall men. Same for men most men prefer slim women.

ShinyMe · 09/07/2020 17:31

Short men don't get people constantly telling them to grow a bit and then pretending they're only worried about their health though.

RedRedWines · 09/07/2020 17:32

Peoples height isn’t a choice though so they aren’t really comparable.

How do you know, have you asked "most women", or "most men" come to that?
Gardenista · 09/07/2020 17:35

I agree with this in the dating game. I think it is hard being a short man. For dating and in general, people are very rude, and make jokes

I had a personal trainer who was a quite successful body builder, he got into it because he was bullied for being short.

StarScream22 · 09/07/2020 17:36

I think dating is harder for short and for overweight men. I don’t know any women who would date a fat man or a short (in comparison to them) man.

However, short women don’t usually have the same problem. But fat women do. I think dating in general is just a nightmare!

Macncheeseballs · 09/07/2020 17:38

I kinda agree, I've always thought that women saying they're only into tall men is shallow, like men saying they only like blonde women with large breasts or something

PicsInRed · 09/07/2020 17:39

It would be the equivalent to a very tall woman. Nothing wrong with it, unchangeable, but less dating options.

PumpkinP · 09/07/2020 17:43

SerenDippitty

Oh come on it’s well known that most women prefer men who are tall. Hmm and again fat women are badly criticised so again don’t act like that isn’t a thing.

Tinamou · 09/07/2020 17:43

SerenDippitty I don't know about in relationships, but there is research to show that being overweight negatively affects a woman's career.

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2020 17:43

Wait, what?

None of this makes any sense at all.

Sexnotgender · 09/07/2020 17:45

I used to work with a lovely guy. Smart, very good looking and really struggled dating as he was only about 5ft 5.

SnuggyBuggy · 09/07/2020 17:47

Surely they have more in common with tall women

I remember reading about this a few years ago. It can make a significant difference in terms of pay

Raella50 · 09/07/2020 17:49

I know what you mean!!! I think short men experience similar rejection to fat women. Also unsuccessful (career-wise) men and ugly women.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/07/2020 17:49

You can change one but not the other.

If we’re being totally shallow I would say a short man is similar to a tall woman.

Wolfsony · 09/07/2020 17:49

I loved when we did mate choice in psych. And I'd say that's about right. Partners tend to have equal amount of capital in term of attractiveness but those things vary by sex and culture.

Sexnotgender · 09/07/2020 17:50

Possibly. I used to be friends with 2 very tall women (6ft plus) and they did struggle.
Raella50 · 09/07/2020 17:51

@PurpleFlower1983 but tall women don’t struggle to find partners as a general group. Short men are ruled out far more frequently.

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 09/07/2020 17:52

If you look at threads on MN about dating, you'll find loads of women who refuse to even consider short (or even average) men. You get women who are 5'2 claiming they'd never date anyone under 6'. It's really common. People put this stuff on online dating profiles.

And it's probably more socially acceptable to say out loud than it would be if a man were to explicitly say he doesn't like overweight women. Certainly that wouldn't go down well on MN.

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/07/2020 17:53

My BF is 5'2.
It doesn't bother me at all.

Bluntness100 · 09/07/2020 17:56

Think you’ve hit a nerve op.

And you have a point, many women do look for taller men, and many men prefer slimmer women. These are well known facts.

And faux wided eyed “ prove it gov “ is just silly.
