To think that fish fingers do not go with pasta

Clearly not the biggest deal but I'd be interested to hear views! My OH cooked me fishfingers and pasta with sweetcorn the other day (yes a but bland but we were v. short on time and inspiration!). I micro waved myself a potato instead and put the pasta in the fridge for the next day's lunch. No arguments at all but I was surprised at the offering as I thought pasta kind of needs a sauce? he thought this was normal so I though I'd canvas some opinions!

YABU = fish fingers and pasta is a fine (if uninspired meal)
YANBU = it's a totally weird combination!

Depends how hungry you are. Might be OK with garlic mayonnaise.

dementedpixie · 06/07/2020 21:56

Plain pasta? Bizarre!

gamerchick · 06/07/2020 21:56

Just take the batter off. It's fine.

randolph78 · 06/07/2020 21:57

Yes plain, just boiled and put on a plate.

Really? Good grief, you must have led a sheltered life.

"Didn't realise adults ate ff!!"

🙄

Week before payday, it’s freezer tapas and anything goes. Otherwise, no I wouldn’t put them together.
Put a bit of mayo on and turn it into pasta salad.

BackforGood · 06/07/2020 22:01

Pasta needs a sauce. Be that part of the 'protein' (bolognaise or the like) or a pesto or a tomato or cream based sauce, but it needs a sauce.

Fishfingers really ought to be in a sandwich

Rosebel · 06/07/2020 22:02

Fish fingers and pasta is my 12 year old daughter's favourite. I don't fancy it as like you said pasta needs a sauce. Still each to their own.

ShellsAndSunrises · 06/07/2020 22:02

I’ve had pasta and fish fingers, it was a staple as a kid. It had a tomato sauce on the pasta, though.

Topseyt · 06/07/2020 22:02

It is not a combination that would have occurred to me at all.

That said, I do like the occasional fish finger sandwich though. Nice, soft white bread, fish fingers and a good dollop of tartar sauce. Yum!

Dollywilde · 06/07/2020 22:04

Yeah, I wouldn’t take issue with the combination of pasta and fish fingers but the lack of a sauce would be an issue for me!

Seeline · 06/07/2020 22:05

My DD lived on spaghetti and FF s for 6 months when she was two. She is 16 now, and it's still one of her favourites.

Welcometothe36to40Box · 06/07/2020 22:05

Did he eat it OP?

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 06/07/2020 22:06

Seems exceedingly dry. Logically there's nothing really wrong with it, but it's just so unappealing as a combination.

Welcometothe36to40Box · 06/07/2020 22:06

The same meal I mean?

SamSeabornforPresident · 06/07/2020 22:06

My 3 year old would probably like it but even for her I'd put some butter and grated cheese on the pasta.

PicsInRed · 06/07/2020 22:07

It's only one of the finest childhood meals OP!

Damn it. Now I want this. 🤔

Welcometothe36to40Box · 06/07/2020 22:07

@BackforGood Gavel? Isn't that what Judges use?

Wecandothis99 · 06/07/2020 22:07

Yeah that's weird haha

daisymay133 · 06/07/2020 22:08

Tell him next time to make fish finer butties

The absolute best!

PurplePansy05 · 06/07/2020 22:09

Pasta NEEDS sauce.

I'm sorry, I can't imagine pasta with ff and some sort of mayo as mentioned in one of the pps, it's gone right through me 🤢

A fish finger sandwich is the food of the Gods
ceeveebee · 06/07/2020 22:09

Would be the perfect tea for my 8 yo DS but I wouldn’t eat it!
