To think that fish fingers do not go with pasta

Clearly not the biggest deal but I'd be interested to hear views! My OH cooked me fishfingers and pasta with sweetcorn the other day (yes a but bland but we were v. short on time and inspiration!). I micro waved myself a potato instead and put the pasta in the fridge for the next day's lunch. No arguments at all but I was surprised at the offering as I thought pasta kind of needs a sauce? he thought this was normal so I though I'd canvas some opinions!

YABU = fish fingers and pasta is a fine (if uninspired meal)
YANBU = it's a totally weird combination!

I cannot believe no one else has commented on the Sweetcorn. Sweetcorn and fishfingers go together but not pasta and Sweetcorn. Sweetcorn only goes with potatoes!

Commonly we will eat fish and noodles or fish and rice (sometimes for breakfast). Not fish fingers and Italian pasta though, what I eat are Asian dishes.

Oh unless it's cold in pasta salad. That's ok. But never hot Sweetcorn as aside to pasta!

I love them on a sandwich and I’m 53, I also love pasta but not loads of sauce.

I sometimes make that for the kids. It's amazing with cheese sauce though!

Fish fingers with plain pasta is a bit dry, but equally odd to replace the pasta with a baked potato!

I’d feel sad if that was my dinner. I’d have eaten but for fuel rather than pleasure. Agree with pp’s, ff sandwich with soft bread and tartare sauce, or pasta with butter and black pepper.

Pasta is not supposed to be eaten totally plain. That is just totally bizarre. It doesn't have to be fancy- pasta cacio e pepe is just pasta with butter, cheese and pepper- but it needs something on it!

I don't eat fish, but I wouldn't put chicken nuggets with pasta and I guess it's the same sort of thing?

Saying that, one of my comfort foods is boiled pasta and bacon (a hangover from my early pregnancy sickness days!)

In my daughter's opinion, pasta goes with everything. She is however, 2 years old. I'm with you OP (although wouldn't choose fish fingers, or anything breaded or battered)

Even my children would be unimpressed by that tbh. Can't imagine serving it to an adult. Does your dp cook proper meals normally?

No, not pasta...fish fingers, rice, peas & sweetcorn is surprisingly nice.

I'd be the same as you but DD's would be delighted. The other week when really stuck for time and inspiration I gave them plain pasta and grated cheese and they keep asking for it again like it was the holy grail of meals. Was always proud of having dc that would 'eat anything' and cooked accordingly yet this is their meal of choice .

I'm quite partial to a fish finger wrap or ciabatta. I've even seen it on lunch menus in trendy gastropub type places so not really that shocking!

Well they don't really go. But I wouldn't think it was disgusting, I'd eat it,
