To think that fish fingers do not go with pasta

Clearly not the biggest deal but I'd be interested to hear views! My OH cooked me fishfingers and pasta with sweetcorn the other day (yes a but bland but we were v. short on time and inspiration!). I micro waved myself a potato instead and put the pasta in the fridge for the next day's lunch. No arguments at all but I was surprised at the offering as I thought pasta kind of needs a sauce? he thought this was normal so I though I'd canvas some opinions!

YABU = fish fingers and pasta is a fine (if uninspired meal)
YANBU = it's a totally weird combination!

We ate ff a lot when I was a kid, and I liked them, but on the very few occasions I've had them since, they haven't really impressed me. Are there particularly nice ones - should I try the more expensive kind? I love fish, and the idea of ff IYSWIM.

Bloodybridget · 07/07/2020 03:50

I promise I would never have them with pasta!

blueglassandfreesias · 07/07/2020 04:01

I make it for my kid but wouldn't dream of having it myself. YANBU.

hellolittlebaby · 07/07/2020 04:58

Fish fingers and pasta used to be one of my favourite meals growing up. But obviously eaten with a cheesy white sauce and peas/sweet corn. You cut up the fish fingers into bits.

Without the sauce it's dry/bland. 🤢

I have all that in the freezer/cupboards. Know what I'm having for dinner tonight.. 😋

It's 6yo DS's favourite meal. I would just have fishfingers and salad.

Bowerbird5 · 07/07/2020 07:15

Sort of thing my DH would do. He makes weir combinations of food and gets annoyed if I comment or don’t eat it.
I’m with you. You wouldn’t eat it together unless it was the last thing in the house.

KatherineJaneway · 07/07/2020 07:25

No they don't go, at all.

MamaGothel · 07/07/2020 07:27

This is what I fed my children for dinner last night but I mixed dairylea into the pasta. I'm not sure I would serve it plain.

UltimateWednesday · 07/07/2020 07:51

It's not something I'd serve to other but with a bit of mayo, I think it would actually be quite a decent meal. Needs some more veg or salad though.

Very glad so see more posters shocked at the idea that adults don't eat FF than those shocked that they do Grin

UltimateWednesday · 07/07/2020 07:54

I'm still traumatised from the one time my dad was left to feed us as children and he fried the fish fingers in beef dripping. Now that was a step too far, although frying fish fingers, rather than bunging them in the oven, was the norm in those days.

userxx · 07/07/2020 07:58

@UltimateWednesday but not in beef dripping 😱. I can only imagine how they tasted!

Candyapple49 · 07/07/2020 08:04

Ummm , fishfingers with cheesy pasta .
They are also yummy with rice nd curry or katsu sauce !

Malbecblooms · 07/07/2020 08:28

It's not a very nutritious meal either way. Where are the veggies?

But definitely a very odd mix

eaglejulesk · 07/07/2020 08:45

I really like plain pasta so it wouldn't have bothered me.

Panda368 · 07/07/2020 09:13

Pasta, pesto and fishfingers with peas if you want to attempt some veg is the ultimate CBA food in our house.

StuffThem · 07/07/2020 09:29

@Panda368 what i don't get about that being a CBA food is that it involves cooking on the job and in the oven. Surely the ultimate CBA food is all in one place, like fish fingers and chips?

StuffThem · 07/07/2020 09:34

I think in the choice between plain, pesto or ketchup, I'd go for the pesto, followed by the microwaved potato Wink

DeeTractor · 07/07/2020 10:35

If OP had said that her husband served her cod goujons in a whole wheat crumb would that be more acceptable to the AdUlTs DoNt EaT fIsH fInGeRs!!!1111 crowd?

Queenoftheashes · 07/07/2020 11:32

Not so much the pasta but craving fish fingers with rice and ketchup now

PunishmentSnart · 07/07/2020 11:33

@Llamazoom to be fair, I’d have gravy on most meals....

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/07/2020 11:41

I'd have melted some garlic butter in with the pasta and thrown away the fish fingers

Frazzled2207 · 07/07/2020 11:46

for kids yeah probably not for grown ups. I always have a jar of pasta sauce in the cupboard for emergencies though. I wouldn't eat plain pasta but know plenty of kids that would.

DGRossetti · 07/07/2020 12:03

It's an easy meal to stir some olive oil and herbs (cracked black pepper, maybe some fresh chillis, touch of basil or fennel) into pasta and serve as an accompaniment to some meat, or fish.

If you have any lying around Smile you can stir ricotta cheese into pasta (with black pepper etc).

Not for me, but fried broccoli stirred into olive oil and pasta.

LightTheFlameThrower · 07/07/2020 12:14

Then you do not wish to eat in my mother in laws house.

I can we’ll see her serving fishfingers and pasta.

She has definitely served me fishfingers and soup (poured on - not on the side)
