After being blessed with learning about Paverotti's singing with Skunk Anansie on another thread, along with other great tracks.... can I ask for recommendations of artists or groups you love and can't understand why they aren't much better loved... trying to widen my music loves without listening to the radio.
I'll start with Natty - reggae- albums "Man Like I" and "Release The Fear"
Teddy Thompson- folk/pop/country/bit Everly brothers- albums "Separate Ways" , "Piece Of What You Need" and several others.

Too many now defunct 90s bands to mention.

Cage the Elephant
Yeasayer
Death in Vegas
Mew
Isaac Gracie
Cherry Ghost
All of Gaz Coombes solo stuff

Also they had some success but I think Guillemots are very underrated

Standrewsschool · 05/07/2020 21:31

All these new bands are going to keep me occupied for a long time.

The Apple chill mix is good to discover new, lesser own people.

Didn’t Frank Turner sing at the opening ceremony of the London Olympic?

Maggie Rogers

Yeah

Scout2016 · 05/07/2020 22:15

Hope no one minds but I'm going to make finding Natty easier.

@Standrewsschool Skerryvore are class! I've seen them 4 times in pubs on Mull 😂

PulpHorn · 06/07/2020 04:44

This thread has reminded me of some artists I used to listen to so I've made a list to trawl through Spotify and rediscover

Tom Misch- not mentioned yet. So talented and quite young so there's still time for him

libertine80 · 06/07/2020 08:30

Also glad to see Hope & Social mentioned. Such a great live band. I also love that the band really connect to the fans.

In terms of newer bands, I love The Howl and the Hum from York. Charly Bliss definitely deserve to be much bigger. Their 2019 album, Young Enough, is sublime. Also Porridge Radio, Diet Cig and Best Coast amongst many other great current bands.

JengaNonConfirming · 06/07/2020 08:35

Bears Den and Lonely The Brave. Although, rather selfishly, I don't want them to get too big as I like seeing them in small venues Blush

Scout2016 · 06/07/2020 08:45

@PulpHorn I've ended up re-buying cds off ebay of stuff I've had but lost and miss. Which wasn't the point of the thread at all.
Few years ago my car got broken into and the gits took a bag which contained my casettes, including tapes of cds I'd done in the 90s and a mixtape my school mate had done...Angry Big loss for me but would have been worthless to them.

Scout I've still got a boot full of cds that just get moved from car to car. I've no longer got a CD player in there. Very of the 1999-2010 era, should move them in at some point!

Love this thread! I've put a few of the bands named here on a Spotify Playlist. I'm a 40 yr old britpop kid who never grew up. Favourites include James, Smiths, Stone Roses, Charlatans, Sleeper, you get the idea. I've added a few from here that I've never heard of but liked the sound of and a few more that haven't been mentioned yet including...

SKIES
Lathums
Everything Everything
Blinders
October Drift
Tea St Band
The Big Moon

Hope people enjoy finding something new!

If they haven't been mentioned already - Blue October.
Justin Furstenfeld is the front man and his voice is so good.

@Shazza7340 Erm, I’m male and brown, I play rugby

melisma · 09/07/2020 14:33

@MrsSpenserGregson yes totally agree with Christine and the Queens, she is amazing and obviously headlined the Other stage at Glasto last year, but I am consistently surprised by how no one seems to have heard of her!

louderthan · 09/07/2020 14:38

Longpigs
VV Brown
La Roux
Late of the Pier
Mystery Jets

Headperson · 09/07/2020 15:21
Scout2016 · 09/07/2020 21:30

@louderthan I saw VV Brown at Glastonbury years ago and thought she'd be everywhere soon. Then nothing. Mad which acts catch light and which don't.
