After being blessed with learning about Paverotti's singing with Skunk Anansie on another thread, along with other great tracks.... can I ask for recommendations of artists or groups you love and can't understand why they aren't much better loved... trying to widen my music loves without listening to the radio.
I'll start with Natty - reggae- albums "Man Like I" and "Release The Fear"
Teddy Thompson- folk/pop/country/bit Everly brothers- albums "Separate Ways" , "Piece Of What You Need" and several others.

Thr wandering hearts
Not RTFT but I'm so glad someone else has mentioned them! I am a devoted fan after seeing them at a festival a couple of years ago. Also the Dead South.

LP is amazing and well worth seeing live.
Nick Cave - somehow he never made it to the larger venues, but is an amazing writer and live performer.
Regina Spektor
Palais Royale
Rammstein (pretty big, but not radio big)
Rob Dougan. Everyone knows his matrix music from all the adverts, but his album Furious Angels remains my number one album of all time
Sparks... never understood why they seem to have inspired so many different musicians without ever being huge themselves.

BabyG08 · 11/07/2020 06:51

Seen so many good ones on here.
The Twang - I don’t think has been mentioned, they are incredible and when they are live the whole place just bounces!

monkeyonthetable · 11/07/2020 07:01

@TheUnquestionedAnswer - yes, Squid! Amazing live. Had never heard of them, then saw them live at a festival and thought WOW!

Oswin · 11/07/2020 07:06

Hobo Johnson. They should be known by everybody. The songs they make are amazing.

Passmethechocolatecake · 11/07/2020 07:40

Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem. His solo stuff is amazing. Also just The Gaslight Anthem in general. I’ll shout their name from the rooftops until I die Grin.
Ditto Dan Andriano of Alkaline Trio.
Cage The Elephant don’t seem to have the recognition in the uk as they have in the states. That’s a shame.
The Decemberists.

Passmethechocolatecake · 11/07/2020 07:48

I’m going to keep going... Grin
Lonely The Brave
Against Me
Enter Shikari.. If anybody happens to know where I can sell my soul to get a ticket for their November tour I’d be all ears...
Mercy Union/ Jared Hart
Twin Temple (absolutely incredible)
Swmrs
Hot Water Music
Dave Hause
Twin Atlantic
Funeral for a Friend

Paddy McAloon is a genius.

I Trawl The Megahertz is one of my favourite things of the last 20 years

louderthan · 11/07/2020 09:30

Yes the Twang are great.
And Sparks yes I agree. So influential but never quite got the recognition they deserved.
In a similar vein, Gang of Four

Cave town First Aid Kit Dodie Pomplemousse Tessa Violet Julia Nunes.

All great artists.

I stumbled across Julia Nunes over 10 years ago. Travelled from Glasgow to London to see her at a tiny gig a year later. I'm completely and utterly in love with her (am also a straight, nearly-50-yr-old woman I'm creeping mySELF out!

The PM worked, I was thinking I don’t think I know someone who has an older primary child. Hope you’re feeling better.

@Mustbetimeforachange

I was looking for someone to say a Frank Turner! I love his music, especially the dancing round the room loud stuff.

The independent venue love during lockdown was brilliant. Raising funds for Different small music venue every week did a concert from home. On YouTube still.

Also podcast “no mans land” about a different women each week, the song sister Rosetta especially.

Also vaccines were awesome

crikeycrumbsblimey · 25/07/2020 07:32

Anyone says Christina and the Queens there was an amazing performance on Graham Norton and this lovely interview afterwards with Micheal Caine saying he listened their music. Worth a look
