After being blessed with learning about Paverotti's singing with Skunk Anansie on another thread, along with other great tracks.... can I ask for recommendations of artists or groups you love and can't understand why they aren't much better loved... trying to widen my music loves without listening to the radio.
I'll start with Natty - reggae- albums "Man Like I" and "Release The Fear"
Teddy Thompson- folk/pop/country/bit Everly brothers- albums "Separate Ways" , "Piece Of What You Need" and several others.

Krizz Kaliko. He's an American rapper and songwriter who suffers from bipolar disorder.

I don't like rap or hip hop type music but I love his, it's not the usual type. My favourite songs are: Bipolar, Why me, hello walls, unstable.

OohKittens · 04/07/2020 20:52

Badfinger- they just don't get the recognition they deserve. They were fantastic.

Try this one

Paul Carrack (to whom I am listening right now). So often a sideman or supporting act but an outstanding pianist, guitarist, writer and singer in his own right. 'How Long' and 'Love Will Keep Us Alive ' are two fine songs. The output of bands such as Squeeze, Roxy Music and Mike And The Mechanics, as well as Ace, would be the poorer without Paul Carrack's contributions.

TickleMeEmo · 04/07/2020 21:01

The Civil Wars
The Decemberists

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 04/07/2020 21:13

@WildRosie you beat me to it, Paul Carrack! Amazing singer and writer.

Lilliac

They are still small but eventually once they get their break I think they could go far!

LettyBriggs · 04/07/2020 21:24

Can I include a singer who is now dead?
Clifford T Ward was a singer in the 70s. His daughter had MS so he didn’t ever go on tour and therefore didn’t get much air play. He was a phenomenal artist.
Randomly, he was a teacher in the Kidderminster area and taught Trudie Styler.
I think he also died of MS back in the early noughties although I could be wrong.

The Lancashire Hotpots

Scout2016 · 04/07/2020 21:26

@JaceLancs Love that LowKey track. I have a cracking album called Council Estate Of Mind by Leeds rapper Skinnyman which has a loops, samples and social conscience lyrics... then I learnt he had been done for attacking an ex. Great album still but naturally I went off him.
@Cookie123456 yes, listened to them and he's my cup of tea. Bass kicked in on Unstable I thought, yes!
I'll put Ghostpoet out there but he might actually be fairly well known.

The Buttertones! Love them. This one from their latest album has a Bowie vibe.

Clifford T. Ward was certainly a talent, although some of his lyrics were contrived and painful. 'Wherewithal' is his favourite song of mine. Jim Dale recorded it too.

NameChangeAgain111 · 04/07/2020 21:31

Ryan Caraveo.

GizzaNuther · 04/07/2020 21:33

Another vote for Teddy Thompson. Beautiful voice and a very talented songwriter.

Rubyupbeat · 04/07/2020 21:35

Madisen ward and Mama bear.
His voice is to die for, beautiful duo.

I didn't know that @Scout2016 Smile

Scout2016 · 04/07/2020 21:40

@GizzaNuther yay, another fan! Had tickets to see him this year but not to be... next year though. He's brilliant live. I got him to sign my ticket years ago and he was a bit of an arse but I think I was probably drunk and annoying. Also his mate Rufus Wainwright had got inexplicably huge and he was there playing a pub and packing up his own stuff so 🤷‍♀️ I've let him off.
