Would you go abroad by plane over the summer?

Assuming that the government will do yet another U-turn over travel quarantine on return to the UK, would you get a flight to say, Portugal for a holiday over the summer? I'm just curious how many would etc.

No. We've postponed our holiday abroad until next July.

Our flights so Spain in July have been cancelled but if they hadn’t then yes, we’d have gone.

Nope. No way. Want to minimise the chance of catching covid. Even though I’m in a low risk group, the descriptions of it from those I know who have had it and the post viral stuff makes me want to be as careful as possible.

We're due to go away in September having not been on holiday since 2012 and i'm desperately hoping that it goes ahead. I'd go tomorrow if I could.

Yes - the risk now is very low and I would happily go.

Maybe - depends on the situation re restrictions on the place I was going. Wouldn't want to be unable to leave hotel or not use pool.

No - I like good weather but not too hot so rarely go away July and August as it is too hot.

We changed our holiday in August to next year because we didn’t want to have to pay for it and fight for our money back if it was cancelled, like we did with out March holiday. But if quarantine is lifted, we’ll book something else in a flash.

I am hoping to go to Turkey in September - If I'm allowed, then I will definitely go.

No. We were due to fly in August.

We’ve opted not to because we were going somewhere quite difficult to get to in the event of sickness with no hospital just a local GP and it could easily take anywhere between 4-12 hours to get somewhere for help if needed.

We are gutted though as we have a history with the place and it has been a few years.

I should qualify that with the fact that I have had Covid and it’s more about getting stuck there than anything if any of us got ill rather than the travel element.

No, we have cancelled three flight so far. It is not safe at all and the decision by countries to reopen international travel is based on economics not health.

No I wouldn’t. I’m on a forum in Spain as have a property there. Communal pools are out of use this year (not sure about hotels but probably the same) and you have to prebook a slot in the beach. No idea how that would work. So, it just wouldn’t be the same holiday.

Fuck yes. I'd go anywhere by any means possible at the moment because I am so bored! On a serious note, the travel doesn't bother me but social distancing, limited numbers in restaurants, queues etc does and that's why we're not holidaying this year.

Should point out though that we’d be going to stay with the in laws in their large house with pool so doesn’t matter to us hugely if things are shut (all our favourite local restaurants are open).

Yes, it's not just the flight that puts me off (recycled air) it's the faff of prebooked beach slots, limited restaurants/bars - I feel tired at the thought of having to queue for an hour just for an icecream etc.

Equally, I'm now at the point of such intense boredom - homeschooling, working, following all the guidelines etc etc - that my head is full of travel fantasies

I should also point out that I do all the cooking (DH has his set of 'tasks') so the idea that I won't be able to go to restaurants whilst away makes holidaying far less attractive

Yes, but not really for a holiday - coming over to UK from US at the end of this month, but this is because my mother died (pandemic), I have to collect her things from the care home and take care of her flat and find documents for probate. This is the latest I can go, because I start teaching again in August and need enough time to do quarantine both ends. We have bought lots of masks, our plane looks to have proper social distancing on it, we will take lots of hand sanitizer and I think it will be OK.

What happens if you get covid abroad and need medical help, is insurance valid.... Just a thought.

I'd love to go away for my holiday in Aug/Sept.
Common sense made Dh and I move it to next year.
I'm wary of being on a plane with many others in very close proximity and also what the holiday will look like once there with restrictions, mask usage, social distancing etc..
As gutted as I am I'm happy with my decision.

We've cancelled our holiday to Portugal in August. Even if the hotel and flights are ok to go the holiday won't be the same. The beaches, pools, restaurants etc are going to be so different and I know I'd just be on edge the whole time.

If people want to go that's fair enough though.

Ues I will be going. Our travel insurance covers medical issues relating to covid but not cancellations....but if covid stopped travel again then the holiday companies will have to cancel so I wouldnt be claiming off travel insurance anyway!.

Yes, but only if restaurants etc were fully open with no social distancing. Otherwise it wouldn't be much fun

There is no way I would get in a metal tube with recirculated air at the moment.

I would be on a plane today if I could.

I'm on holiday abroad at the moment and there is no pre-booking of beach slots where I am. Lots of mask wearing though. I don't think I would fly anywhere but I hate flying anyway.
