Would you go abroad by plane over the summer?

Assuming that the government will do yet another U-turn over travel quarantine on return to the UK, would you get a flight to say, Portugal for a holiday over the summer? I'm just curious how many would etc.

We are. Staying with family so not worried about communal pools or restaurants or anything and we're well away from busy tourist hotspots. Plane a bit of a worry but we will have masks and sanitizer etc and we can quarantine at home when we get back if necessary

Egghead68 · 21/06/2020 18:00

No

AgeLikeWine · 21/06/2020 18:01

Not a chance. I will not be flying again (Or going to the pub, or eating in a restaurant) until this nightmare is over.

DelurkingAJ · 21/06/2020 18:05

We’re booked to go to France in late July. If FCO advice changes we will still go. DH and I have discussed if we’d rather drive but that would mean a night in a hotel which a tut seems as risky. We’re staying in a villa and will spend our time on the beach. Host says the town is fully open. FCO would stop us as we won’t travel without insurance.

Godotsarrived · 21/06/2020 18:05

Yes. 100% yes.

rookiemere · 21/06/2020 18:05

Yup we'll go as soon as we can fly again. We're booked to go to Majorca first week of August- quarantine would be problematic so might not go if that's in place - but other than that if the plane is flying off we go. We've booked a (cancellable) villa with a private pool so even if we can't do much it will be a change of scene.
We think we've already had it, so not bothered. Plus if there is a second wave in winter I'd like to have some pleasant memories to sustain me.

edgeware · 21/06/2020 18:08

Well I’d like to see my parents again so yes. They haven’t seen my DS or I for 4 months now.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/06/2020 18:23

No, we’ve cancelled our Croatia holiday in early September too.

Aramox · 21/06/2020 18:25

Those of you who don’t feel safe flying, what about trains eg Eurostar?

KoalasandRabbit · 21/06/2020 18:28

I'm not that bothered by flying but would have thought trains / planes similar risk, own car would be lower risk though main concern would be risk of no insurance / quarantine / things closed / infecting others.

queensvillage1 · 21/06/2020 18:33

Yes - we have a flight booked to Greece on 1st July and if there is any possibility of it going ahead me and my family will be going.

MzHz · 21/06/2020 18:36

My holiday is still going ahead! Flights got rearranged but I’m still going.

Do I worry about COVID.? Not for a second.

I’ll check in whenever I have to, do the tests I’m asked to, wear the masks even, but there isn’t any reason not to go.

Bonkersblond · 21/06/2020 18:37

Nope, wouldn’t go fortunately just found out our flights have cancelled so we won’t be losing deposit, worried about it not being the holiday we planned, and have a feeling that if we went, something would go wrong and we’ll wish we never went away, that and the possibility of being stuck in a small apartment with 2 DC and dodgy WiFi, if a lockdown happened while we were there -I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

pilates · 21/06/2020 18:40

No, I am writing off this year.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 21/06/2020 18:45

Extremely tempted as I and family and friends all thankfully fit and healthy but as much as there is the huge temptation for us otherwise globe trotting intrepid explorers we will simply wait and see as in self imprisonment hibernation bolt hole for so long already so used to working from “home“ tech enabled digital nomad enforced lifestyle.

Would love to continue ticking off my eco tourism bucket list but been to all the obvious proposed air bridges destinations already and done the ocean cruise thing thankfully before they became floating gin palace horror detention infection camps rejected to set foot on any land!

Will save up limited resources to fund and do my bit for the global economy when next Covid secure and smart to do so on tour.

Good luck and safe flight to all the brave guinea pigs flying!

AnyFucker · 21/06/2020 18:47

Yes indeedy

I have stuff booked in August and November

I fully intend to go if

  1. the countries will let us in
  2. the FCO allows non essential travel
  3. no quarantine at either end

Bring. It. On.

Chottie · 21/06/2020 18:50

Yes

FizzFan · 21/06/2020 18:52

No.

I don’t think it’s fair on other countries who have dealt with the virus better than us to risk us infecting their people.

TimeWastingButFun · 21/06/2020 18:54

I'm hoping that by mid August it will be possible, only if very safe to do so though, obviously!

Jeremyironsnothing · 21/06/2020 18:55

pigeon Don't you think it's a bit hypocritical not wanting to take the risk for your own family but quite happily advocating a return for all the school staff?

TimeWastingButFun · 21/06/2020 18:56

So frustrating though, last year was the first year we didn't go abroad (we have a holiday home in Canada and usually either go there or in Europe somewhere). Last year due to family illness we hardly did anything and now this happens, so that's two years' screwed up holidays. I don't mind but I feel sorry for the kids :-(

LuxLuxLux84 · 21/06/2020 18:56

No- I don’t fancy breathing that recycled air at the moment. I also want to Limit flying as much as possible to protect the planet for the children I have chosen to bring into this world.

Jeremyironsnothing · 21/06/2020 18:57

Oh and my answer is no and we are set to lose a lot of money - circa £650 minimum and up to 2k if we can't transfer the flights.

showmewhatyougot · 21/06/2020 18:57

No. I think whilst we still have such high numbers being diagnosed daily we would be selfish to go to other country's. Look what happened with New Zealand.

Tzigane · 21/06/2020 18:58

No. I'd drive thro the tunnel to France though. Le Touquet has a nice beach.
