Would you go abroad by plane over the summer?

Assuming that the government will do yet another U-turn over travel quarantine on return to the UK, would you get a flight to say, Portugal for a holiday over the summer? I'm just curious how many would etc.

showmewhatyouvegot surely it is an individual countries decision what they do.
Also it does make you wonder if they are being entirely honest about the infection rates abroad as it does seem a bit enthusiastic to welcome us Brits. Mind you I'm in Scotland where infections are in teens/twenties and number of deaths back to the normal rate for this time of year, so if Scotland can stop us leaving to go anywhere, they absolutely will.

Really dont like the idea of be confined with lots of people in plane just yet!

And its a lot of money to pay for not a full holiday. We are going to give it a miss this year.

No I don't want to fly for the foreseeable future but if the ferries start to operate we are considering taking our long trip to Spain and Portugal in the Autumn, as planned. Just hoping a 2nd wave doesn't cock it up.

I cannot believe people think about holidays after what we have all been through and what we are still dealing with.
We have the means but certainly not the inclination.

I managed to keep a mask on for around an hour during a hospital appointment and I was ready to claw my skin off afterwards; it was so itchy and unpleasant. So the idea of wearing one on a plane for the seven hours or more it would take to get anywhere I want to go is impossible.

I would! We're going to stay put though simply because all the Covid-related restrictions will make things a bit dreary

We are going to the Netherlands for a week - all aspects fully or mostly refundable up to the week before, staying in a self-catering apartment and travelling on national airline rather than Mr O’Leary’s. And rates there are very low, as they are here (not England).

There’s an announcement due next week about quarantine on return, we don’t have it in NL, but I expect even the return will be waived by then, and if not, we can isolate at home easily at that point.

There’s a specific reason we are going though, which we think is important if it can work out (not holiday related). And we’re happy to wear masks, maintain social distance and generally take sensible precautions.

Really? You can't believe that after months of restrictions of where they can go, doom and gloom and little to look forward to that people are excited about a holiday? Of course they are!

No, not this year.
Prefer to stay in UK and support our economy.

But, we live rurally and lockdown has been much easier for us than many others.
We have travelled extensively and have lived abroad so we don’t mind (too much) rearranging our holiday plans.

No - and I'm still waiting for my holiday to be cancelled Shock should have been going on 16th July.

Yes definitely. Am looking to book something in next few weeks for July/August.

I think taking it slow and easy is the best bet, see how it goes elswhere and go from there.

That may not be a widely held view, but it is mine.

Yep ! I’ve already been to Ireland twice since March ! Flying was grand - only about 10 of us on the flight so completely spaced out - the crew just sat - were there for safety I suppose ! No interaction with anyone! Soon as I’m allowed go to Japan - which I had booked for April - il be on the plane.

It's booked for late August and you bet your arse that if the planes are going, we'll be there.

Nor the queues/congestion in airport check in areas, security, passport control, cafes/shops, departure gates, transfer buses and baggage reclaim. Foreign travel is queues/congestion from start to finish, not just on the plane. We're definitely not flying this year. Not worth the risk.

Brits are a large proportion of the holiday industry for many European countries - they need our money.

On a plane? No thanks. I'd take the Eurotunnel to France otherwise I'd stay here.

Yes - we booked our flights yesterday. We're going to my family's second home so it doesn't matter so much if there are any restrictions are in place. That said, people who are there at the moment (South of France) have said that life has pretty much gone back to normal. Obviously we are counting on there being an air bridge in place which seems likely. Once we get there, we're probably safer than we are here.

We aren't going away this summer.

Just because Spain has opened up it doesn't mean it is safe. They clearly just want the money that tourists bring. Similar to the way that Italy was allowing tourists in skiing over half term.

Surely if everyone stayed at home and spent the money in the UK that would help our economy no end.

Yes, we are planning to go to Tenerife on the 24th July. If they are flying we are going. It cannot be worse than commuting on the central line and we are covered by our insurance (family policy taken out before covid).

The only thing that will stop me is if the FCO doesn't lift the non-essential travel advice....but I really want to go.
