Would you go abroad by plane over the summer?

Assuming that the government will do yet another U-turn over travel quarantine on return to the UK, would you get a flight to say, Portugal for a holiday over the summer? I'm just curious how many would etc.

You can not socially distance at all on a plane it is impossible, nor on a terminal bus that is crowded full of passengers, and I should think it will be highly stressful and for me to worth it, and I haven't even got to the rest of the holiday...

pigeon999 · 21/06/2020 17:07

*not

Roselilly36 · 21/06/2020 17:08

No way, too restrictive, mask & gloves, possible quarantine on arrival & back into the UK, travelling against FO advice, invalidating insurance, risk of being stranded if second wave hits. Staycation all the way, keep the money in the UK. Or forget holiday plans till 2021.

SteelyPanther · 21/06/2020 17:17

No. We won’t be going abroad until next year, not worth it.

purpledagger · 21/06/2020 17:19

We have a package holiday booked for July, to Spain, but me and OH don't want to go. If the proposed restrictions are on place e.g. time slots on beaches, pools and restaurants, it just won't be enjoyable for us.

DappledThings · 21/06/2020 17:20

So I just can not do it, but I would love for others to outline why they feel these points do not apply or are unworried by this.

I don't know why I'm not worried. I couldn't claim it's logical to not be worried but I'm just not bothered. It doesn't seem.very likely any of those situations would lead to any of us getting ill. I'm probably far too relaxed.

But going on holiday and being forced to think about it because there will be restrictions everywhere, 2m signs, places closed, other people possibly resentful of tourists just sounds shit and not at all relaxing.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 21/06/2020 17:25

Yes!

RubyViolet · 21/06/2020 17:25

No, just can’t face the flight. Insurance is an issue too, there are health issues in my family.

foilflower · 21/06/2020 17:25

No. We’re supposed to be going to visit family this summer but we’ve decided we won’t go this year. We’d be fine once there as they have a lovely villa with pool but we aren’t willing to risk flying.

ScorpionQueen · 21/06/2020 17:26

I've been working throughout and her followed all of the guidelines for myself and my family a much at possible. A few weeks ago If have said no way, but now I'm really tempted.
If it's safe for me to be in a class with no social distancing or PPE I might as well go on holiday before September.

Bebbanburger · 21/06/2020 17:27

I'd love to go, but no,.not this year for us

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 21/06/2020 17:28

No. We need to be minimising such environmentally expensive forms of transport.

PerfidiousAlbion · 21/06/2020 17:30

As tempting as it is, no I wont.

Its just too risky being packed on a plane and any kind of trip would be miserable due to queueing.

KoalasandRabbit · 21/06/2020 17:33

I'm cancelling this August and in process of trying to get refunds. Was going to Asia but it's just not viable and Malaysia has also banned UK tourists until end August. EVAAir cancelled flights to Thailand and gave full refund in under a week early June though AirAsia will probably keep all our money (£1.1k) and we are banned from travel so can't use them.

Would love to go but don't think its viable pre vaccine, might consider in time a European country we could get back from easily if no quarantine / no possibility of flights refusal and covid covered or similar.

Cookies2523 · 21/06/2020 17:47

Spain will be next to have a second wave - watch this space!

Silvercatowner · 21/06/2020 17:50

I don't get ill very often but the last 2 significant virusses I've had - moderate stomach bug and some sort of throat infection fluey thing - both started a few days after a long haul flight and I suspect I caught the bugs on the place. Both illnesses spoilt the holidays I was on quite significantly. I see aeroplanes cabins as germ soup and am now slightly reluctant to fly even without Covid-19.

Echobelly · 21/06/2020 17:50

I wouldn't, a) for the sake of people in the other countries and b) in case alert levels go up and you gets stuck somewhere.

No judgement against people who want to do it though, but I can live without it for this year. Will probably travel within UK over summer, though.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 21/06/2020 17:52

Nope. I find aeroplanes pretty disgusting places at the best of times.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 21/06/2020 17:53

Yes to some places

We were due to go the states in July postponed until next year

cptartapp · 21/06/2020 17:53

Pondering it if it becomes possible. We have ten days in Halkidiki booked for August. Self catering in a small five star hotel, private pool.
If FCO change their advice and there's no quarantine, we likely will.
I've had a positive antibody test and pretty sure at least DS1 has had it already too.
RIsk v benefit for us would mean we'd probably go.

ilovesooty · 21/06/2020 17:54

Yes, if the foreign office restrictions are lifted.

vanillandhoney · 21/06/2020 17:56

No. I couldn't cope on a plane with a mask (ASD).

sunrainwind · 21/06/2020 17:56

I have a flight booked mid August to stay in a private home -if there's no quarantine either end, and government changes advice so that insurance is valid, we will go. Everything crossed. We will go to private local beaches and eat in mainly.

ChristinaW16 · 21/06/2020 17:56

Yep. Booked to go to Spain 30th August for the last week of summer hols. Got family out there who haven't seen the kids since last year, and we can't wait for a change of scene.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 21/06/2020 17:58

It would be a destination specific decision.
We like to get out to local attractions and eat out at least once daily. So I'd want to be sure that everything was open and with sufficient capacity, although I'd happy pre-book (eg museums) before leaving the UK.

PILs on the other hand always book a villa with a pool in the middle of nowhere and barely move from it for a week, so I reckon they're good to go now.
