AIBU To ask my OH not to Shoutsneeze?

(This is about the everyday cold in happier times, obvs).

I can produce a reasonably low decibel constrained "a-pfna", considerate to the eardrums of those nearby, not disturbing a cinema or theatre audience, not causing a cyclist to wobble, etc.

So why does he think "AAAAHHHH - HEURGGGGHHH" registering on the Richter earthquake scale with full vocal projection including right in my ear when I am nearly asleep is acceptable?

And why does he get annoyed when asked to modulate his performance?

AIBU?

My partner does that and it is sooooo annoying. However I don't now if there's much he can do about it. When he sneezes sometimes I'm very close to having a heart attack with the noise!

My DH does a really throaty sounding sneeze then moans it makes it sore . Don't do it then!! Drives me crackers..

I am a shoutsneezer too, it really doesn't feel like a controllable performance, just that the sneeze comes out with such force and velocity the shoutsneeze is the result. I've started myself with it.

I think some people like the attention

My mother is the same. When she sneezes it’s like a bomb has gone off! I have inherited her way of sneezing so I have trained myself to do a closed mouth sneeze.

Though on one occasion it backfired because I held in a sneeze and pulled my shoulder, resulting in a week off work and a course of painkillers/muscle relaxants!

You can absolutely control a sneeze. Send him to live in a two up two down with a noise sensitive baby - you soon learn!

It’s not controllable. YABU to think everyone can sneeze as quietly as a kitten.

My partner used to bottle his sneezes into a horrible sounding snort. I suggested that this might not be very good for his nose and that he should consider allowing his sneezes to come freely. He’s now fully a shoutsneezer and I’m distraught at the monster I’ve created.

I’ve no idea why some people find it so hard to modulate the volume of their sneezes, but since he is generally the most considerate and thoughtful person I know I have to assume it’s outwith his control!

This is a huge bugbear of mine. My DH sneezes so loudly that if I'm holding a drink it makes me spill it. For about 5 minutes after the event I genuinely don't want to live with him anymore.

I think you would be perfectly entitled to poke him in the eye with a hot teaspoon Its bloody annoying my dh does this, just sneeze like a normal person !

Total attention seeking. Of course you can control it. My DH does it too and it makes me cringe as I know hes doing it just to be obnoxious.

Dh was upstairs yesterday and the dog was in the garden, dh did a shout sneeze so loud the dog nearly lifted off the ground

Utter twattery. DP claims he 'can't help' the rodeo whoop that comes out when he sneezes. Of course he can. He sneezes like a decent human being when on work calls and saves the histrionics for us.

I am a shoutsneezer. I read on here once about someone adjusting their sneezes to come out of their nose. I tried that it fucking hurts. So I will carry on with the waaaaahaaaaaaay. Yer bastards.

I was wondering what the term was for my husband’s ridiculously loud sneezes! We’ve always gotten glares when he sneezes when out in public but they’re much worse now, obviously

My DH does this and with hayfever in full force I'm surprised the roof hasn't come off. 2 out of 3 kids also shoutsneeze, I dread hayfever season as it's constant sneezing, even the cat refuses to come into the living room😂

My mum sounds exactly like Donald Duck when she sneezes, it's funny, and every time she does it the dog leaps on her

I cant sneeze quietly. I know other people can, I have spent years trying to emulate them but I just.cant.do.it.

The volume of a sneeze is heavily determined by biological factors

He may be able to suppress slightly , and may sometimes be able to turn away from you before it erupts, but won't have much control at all

It definitely can be controlled. I can sneeze almost silently when I have to (e.g. when the baby has just fallen asleep in the cot bedside me). DH used to sneeze like this and I told him to stop. He said he couldn't control it. So I started emulating his exact sneeze when I sneezed and asked how come if I could change my sneeze, he couldn't change his? He also realised how irritating performance sneezing is to be around. He sneezes quietly now.

My other half does this. I extend my sympathies to all other long suffering partners of this outrageously irritating attention seeking twattery.

I try to stifle mine honestly- but it hurts my ears
