But they've left Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini.

If you Google "British prime ministers" you'll get them all, along with images but Churchill's photo has been replaced with a holder (they've also forgotten his first term).

Google world war two leaders and Churchill's picture is still gone, but Hitler et al. are still up.

AIBU to think this is nuts?

...or you know actual books .

garino · 14/06/2020 09:10

Memory holed!

Nanny0gg · 14/06/2020 09:11

You do know that you can still Google Churchill and his whole Wikipedia entry is still there?

Hmmph · 14/06/2020 09:12

Except I don’t do any searching (let alone a lot) about trans issues. Google would have no reason to show me those results- the most I have done is read the odd trans thread on MN, but I read a lot more threads on MN about women.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 14/06/2020 09:16

'After everything that’s been happening, you honestly think it’s a bug? Bit of a coincidence it’s that picture, don’t you think?'

Yes it does seem a rather conveniently timed 'bug'.

There's bound to be a woke white middle class activist behind it.

Starcup · 14/06/2020 09:17

The world is going mad!!

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 14/06/2020 09:17

Dying at the thought people think google results are controlled by “interns”.

Please do post this to all your social media so everyone knows what a tit you are.

Mimishimi · 14/06/2020 09:17

Churchill was a thug. They were all in league anyway and have caused the deaths of millions. He sent the Black and Tans against my people.

chomalungma · 14/06/2020 09:18

When I do a search for a list of women killed in 2020, the top result is the Femicide census.

What do people genuinely think the purpose would be if someone took down the photo...what would they be trying to achieve?

TheVoiceOfReasonableness · 14/06/2020 09:20

I’ve always sneered at the tin foil helmet conspiracy theorist brigade, but seeing this and the fact that books can be removed from Kindles and TV programmes can be removed from streaming services gives one pause for thought.

If you buy a book or DVD no-one can come knocking at your door to demand it back because the content has suddenly become unacceptable, can they?

GinDrinker00 · 14/06/2020 09:22

If it wasn’t for Churchill we’d all be nazis... but hey let’s remove him from history.
This is just getting out of hand! What next? Should we just get rid of the government completely?

OrangeCinnamon · 14/06/2020 09:22

No ...or you can start your own company and decide what you want to distribute.

MintyCedric · 14/06/2020 09:24

@SiaPR

...and if you Google 'J K Rowling supporters' you get pages of articles of the complete opposite and people branding her a terf.

Can anyone recommend a new search engine?

OrangeCinnamon · 14/06/2020 09:24

Grin GrinGrin oh my days really? Just really?

slashlover · 14/06/2020 09:29

I just checked 'Kings of Scotland' for a course I'm doing.

They've removed Cuilen, Dyfnwal and John of Islay.

If you google 'Kings of England' then they're all still there.

AIBU to think this is nuts and possibly xenophobic? Is there some racist past of these Kings I don't know about. It obviously can't be some glitch with google, it MUST be a conspiracy!!!!111!

merrymouse · 14/06/2020 09:29

I googled South African Prime Ministers and Cecil Rhodes is also missing on Google.

If deliberate, doesn't know much about history if their criteria for deletion was photos of people whose statues are currently in the news.

It sounds much more like an attempt to show that people are being 'deleted from history'.

Jkslays · 14/06/2020 09:29

Winston Churchill is still there in my google. Just typed In Google ‘Churchill’ and from the top there’s a page of links and images.

But fuck me... if you type in women murdered you get a page of trans women murders. That’s scary, never mind Body shop has fallen looks like Google has been gone a while and no one noticed. This has depressed the shit out of me

OrangeCinnamon · 14/06/2020 09:30

Funny that @merrymouse!

merrymouse · 14/06/2020 09:30

Sorry, last post didn't make sense.

If deliberate, the person doing the deleting doesn't know much about history if their criteria for deletion was photos of people whose statues are currently in the news.

It sounds much more like an attempt to show that people are being 'deleted from history'.

Have a look on Duck Duck Go.

Ilovemypantry · 14/06/2020 09:31

If this is true, it’s absolutely disgraceful and quite frankly, heartbreaking.

slashlover · 14/06/2020 09:32

It goes deeper! Google 'Henry 8th children' and five pictures appear while another seven have no picture! Where will this conspiracy end???

Jkslays · 14/06/2020 09:33

His picture is up on Duck Duck Go. This search engine isn’t controlled and is much more private. Was recommended it a while ago

I've just looked on Bing and there's plenty although I didn't read it all and check for dates etc.
