Spectacular work from MIL

CraftyGardener · 11/06/2020 19:53

(Background, DH is an only child and she sobbed the day he moved in with mead I'd stolen her baby).

MIL has surpassed herself in the passive aggressive stakes. 10th wedding anniversary card arrives, she's consistently spelled my name incorrectly throughout. And I mean it's a real stretch to misspell my name. I never rise to her as it would upset DH but I know she won't be able to resist and will say something like 'oh I'm paranoid I made a spelling mistake on your card'. WIBU to respond 'oh no worries, probably a senior moment!'?

Or

'oh did you? I didn't notice'

Depends on whether being old or unnoticed would be more annoying to her.

mbosnz · 11/06/2020 19:56

I think that would be singularly restrained.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 11/06/2020 19:57

That sounds petty! But I am so with you on this! 😂😂

TeamsMakesMeScreams · 11/06/2020 19:58

When he moved in did she also clutch his hand and say “I don’t want to die alone?”. Grr

Do nothing, be the better person.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/06/2020 19:58

Or you could fuck with her head. "No, you spelled it right! I was really impressed, so many people get it wrong."

IwishIhadaMargarita · 11/06/2020 19:58

Hmm really I just handed it to DH and didn’t read it! Anyway more tea anyone?

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 11/06/2020 19:59

Say notihng. Or 'Really? I'd hadn't checked? I know you've always got it wrong, so I don't mind now -I'm used to it'

Splitsunrise · 11/06/2020 20:00

Act like you don’t care/didn’t realise, that will bother her more

Spied · 11/06/2020 20:00

Say nothing. It will really annoys her that you either haven't noticed or couldn't care less.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/06/2020 20:00

"Oh you did? I haven't even looked at it."

HollowTalk · 11/06/2020 20:00

I'd just say, "Oh I assumed you were dyslexic." She'll write it the correct way next time.

Minxmumma · 11/06/2020 20:02

Send her birthday card wrongly spelt in the most extreme way you can

DollyPomPoms · 11/06/2020 20:03

‘Oh don’t worry, I only keep the ones that matter.’

FizzyGreenWater · 11/06/2020 20:03

Oh yes definitely Grin

'Don't worry! Age comes to us all'

CraftyGardener · 11/06/2020 20:04

Can't tell you how relieved I am that you don't think I'm being a bitter Betty Grin when you've been living with it for so long I worry I'm being a bit sensitive. But she really is a troll ...

I genuinely think you not noticing so be more annoying to her than you saying it's down to age. But you could combine the two.

'oh I didn't notice. Don't worry, ahe comes to us all! ', and get a double whammy.

ChangeThePassword · 11/06/2020 20:06

Hopefully you got the gist despite the typos...

Suzie6789 · 11/06/2020 20:06

How annoying for you, I’d just go with the ‘oh did you, I didn’t check’ line.

Why is your DH ok with her being like this with you, but would be upset if you responded?

guessmyusername · 11/06/2020 20:06

Mine said To (husbands name) and wife. Made me feel so special

FreezerBird · 11/06/2020 20:10

"Oh, did you send a card?"

CraftyGardener · 11/06/2020 20:10

Yeees!! @ChangeThePassword double whammy 😆

@Suzie6789 we've been together 12 years, married 10. She won't change and I don't like drama. They live hundreds of miles away so she can stew in her own bile.

@guessmyusername that's awful! How horrid

I think you are over-egging this.
Seriously, "spectacular work from MiL" then you talk about a wrong spelling Hmm

Chickychickydodah · 11/06/2020 20:15

Spell her name wrong on the next chance

Sarahandco · 11/06/2020 20:17

Did you send a card? it hasn't arrived yet, damm post!

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 11/06/2020 20:19

Or you could call her the wrong name from now on? Maureen becomes Mary.
