to be angry about my BF's attitude to the idea of having a child with special needs

My DD2 has special needs.

My BF and I were discussing broodiness earlier and I said I was keen to have a third baby.

She said she was not so sure, as she had two perfect children already, and what if she had a disabled child - then she would have ruined her life and the lives of the existing family members.

I found this hugely offensive as my DD2 is most beautiful child, with a sunny nature and huge potential. She has by no means ruined my life, she has enhanced it immeasurably!

I am seething as I can't believe she could be so insensitive.

I completely understand your issues with the friend who is overprotective of her children. I have a distant relative who has/had a learning disability. Her mother made sure she was financially looked after so that she would have no problems for the future. In this case, it was probably the worst thing to do, because she was also 'overprotective' of her child, and rather than encouraging her to do the best she could, limited her and never encouraged her to go out and try things and, I don't know, just live I guess.

She is now in her 40s, incredibly overweight, only leaving the house to drive to the supermarket to get food, and sits at home all day watching tv. She has an income that appears in her bank account every week, and has no need to work and doesn't socialise with anyone. I mean, she was able to learn to drive a car, she should have been encouraged to try to do something. It's just so sad to see.
