...to wonder why these dresses are so sought after?

The dress I'm talking about is the Mill Pool dress, by a brand called Seasalt.

Trying to find a couple of nice summer dresses on eBay. Stumbled across the above dress and liked the look of it (a stripey version; the floral one isn't quite my taste). Placed a bid and was outbid by a mile by about 30 other bidders! This has happened a few times now. They sell for so much money and I'm not sure why?

Probably not an AIBU but I'm curious if anyone knows why these dresses are so sought after? It seems crazy!

I know SeaSalt is a sought after label and that style dress is surprisingly flattering whilst also hiding a multitude of sins. I can see why that might make it popular.

There is so much horrible clothing these days that it's no wonder people are desperate for something flattering

I had to google it. It's half price on the Cho website!
But it looks pretty bog standard and not particularly flattering (it was not on a .model). But maybe someone famous wore it? Who knows.

That must be it then. It just seems this particular brand sells very well on eBay! Was curious as to why.

Seasalts quality is very good and the original price is higher than say m and s prices. Their clothes wash well and are cut well in my opinion.
People who might be snapping them up on ebay know what they cost brand new and/or really into recycling/conscious shopping so you see more intense bidding on them. Additionally a minority will be reselling. Secondly, the dress is very, very easy to wear, very comfortable, has pockets, good length, not too out there in prints. It covers all the bits you dont worry bending over to give an eyeful of bum or boobs.
I stopped shopping from ebay because i cant return and instead pay seasalts prices full or in sale instead to be able to return clothes.

I guess it's the label? I don't think it looks particularly flattering but then I'm fat with big boobs so it would just hang and cling in all the wrong places!

Looks more like a tunic than a dress , but boring .
I’ve found eBay to be an anomaly.
Things you expect to go really well , don’t and things you think are a bit of crap go for loads !

Why not buy it from an online shop instead of eBay then you won’t be outbid and they are only £22 on CHO at the minute.

@Jarawhiskey I may have a look on the original Seasalt website in that case. Good to hear they are of decent quality and fit. I myself like eBay as I'm not a fan of "fast fashion" but I don't mind having the odd treat every now and then!

Good dresses on the model dont look good on me, my body is nothing like that so i look at the cut itself rather than how it fits the model. Unless you have the same body as the model i dont see why how she looks in it is revelant.

I find the same with Monsoon .Found a lovely dress and put in a bid ,has gone up about 5 times in 3 days .I think Lockdown is having an effect ,as no shops open and ordering online entails a trip to the PO for a refund .Be interesting to see if this continues .

I have a dress very similar to that from Fat Face, it was about £20 in the sale, they usually do it in a couple of different fabrics... It is extremely unflattering. I did get some use out of it eventually, as maternity dress

@dottiedodah I'm inclined to agree with you. Definitely think it is an effect of lockdown and the fact non-essential shops are open. But it's crazy that people bid almost the original price for a second hand dress rather than spend a few more quid and get it first hand from the store! Unless people are becoming more environmentally conscious.

I was about to say it reminds me of the fat face style. Looks comfy if not very flattering.

It seems to be a bit of a "thing" to get into having a particular dress!

There was a polka dot dress by Zara that it seemed a huge number of people were going nuts for last year - this one www.euronews.com/living/2019/05/23/why-this-zara-polka-dot-dress-has-gone-viral.
Zara in Australia were doing it in reverse - white spots on black - and a good friend of mine begged me to buy it and send it to her, so she had both (which I was happy to do).

Just couldn't see why it was so popular myself, but anyway!

I've had a couple of nice things from Seasalt over the years, but so much of their stuff is a) shapeless and b) the colour of dirge.

Christ, they are awful shapeless dresses 😐

I dont like it at all but SeaSalt is one of those brands which holds their value well because they're expensive in the first place and good quality.

I find it with Frugi kids clothes. Yes they're 3x the price of supermarket clothing. But a £30 frugi dress would sell for £20 second hand, whereas a £10 asda dress would be lucky to get £2 second hand.

Ebay is weird like that. Bidding wars over the most random stuff.

I bought a boden dress a bit like that. Really comfortable and very unflattering. I kept it because it is an excellent summer 'dressing gown' to put on for decency before I get dressed

I love seasalt. I only buy in the sale but the clothes are such good quality.

I love those dresses - I wore them all through my pregnancy and i throw them on now for te beach or any day when I feel a bit bloated and just want to be comfortable. They aren't especially flattering but by god at they comfy and they wash and keep really well

Seasalt clothes are excellent quality but it has a very particular style which only appeals to a certain set of women in my opinion. ie, the middle-aged, slightly bohemian, well off types.
