...to wonder why these dresses are so sought after?

The dress I'm talking about is the Mill Pool dress, by a brand called Seasalt.

Trying to find a couple of nice summer dresses on eBay. Stumbled across the above dress and liked the look of it (a stripey version; the floral one isn't quite my taste). Placed a bid and was outbid by a mile by about 30 other bidders! This has happened a few times now. They sell for so much money and I'm not sure why?

Probably not an AIBU but I'm curious if anyone knows why these dresses are so sought after? It seems crazy!

When ever I pass a Seasalt store I think "fishermans chic". Someone must have called it that once and now I can't get it out of my head Blush.

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 30/05/2020 13:41

They do say ‘For Sailors And Artists’ on some of their range. I am neither but I do like the Look Grin

I just googled it as have an hour glass shape but it wouldn't suit me at all it would make me look frumpy. I think they would be pretty on athletic shapes like the models.

BlueJava · 30/05/2020 17:54

I own a Seasalt Mill Pool dress - I love it. I got it way before it was sought after, but I liked it so much (comfortable and flattering and could be dressed up or down) I'm not surprised they've become popular. Sadly mine is getting a bit worn now!

Take up sewing. Such an easy pattern to start with and then have all different patterns

kmc1111 · 30/05/2020 18:04

I’m not sure why people think dresses and tunics like that are flattering. They hide your body, sure, but in the way a 80’s maternity sack hides your body. There’s a huge difference between a flattering cut and just covering yourself up with a tent.

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/05/2020 18:12

I love Seasalt.
I wear Joules trousers but all my tops and dresses are Seasalt.
I give not one shit if anyone thinks they are frumpy.

CruCru · 30/05/2020 18:18

I love Seasalt. I love their raincoats. I also love their dresses and tops. They are smart enough to wear to a nice lunch and modest enough to wear to a school event. I also love their leggings but they sell out fast.

One criticism I have is that they don’t have many colours (a LOT of green and blue). However they do have a lot of sizes so I will forgive them.

LovingLen · 30/05/2020 18:20

I have lots of Seasalt tunics and dresses, Also a couple of coats, especially since they started to do tall in the dresses and some coats, I’m 5’10”.

Next also does Seasalt and I have had some very good bargains in the Next sales

LovingLen · 30/05/2020 18:22

Oh, and the handybands makes good face covering

BarbedBloom · 30/05/2020 18:31

Some things are like this. I sold my old Joe Browns dresses and each went for more than I bought them for new. I think at the moment with lockdown people have more time to browse and popular brands are selling really well.

Even with plants and other bits, I have noticed people are bidding more than usual.

highmarkingsnowbile · 30/05/2020 18:46

I have loads of Seasalt. Excellent quality and very flattering.

thatsallineed · 30/05/2020 19:07

Their stuff looks like grown-up versions of what you'd dress your toddler in.

BelfryBat · 30/05/2020 19:11

I'm wearing a Seasalt tunic right now. Their stuff is comfortable, made from natural fibres and wears really well. To the people who describe them as shapeless, well the idea is you give it shape when you're wearing it!

dannydyerismydad · 30/05/2020 19:16

Maybe some people look lovely in those dresses.

I'd look like a floral traffic cone. I have enough going on round the hood without all that fabric draping there.

mamasiz · 30/05/2020 19:19

What a horrible looking dress.

MulticolourMophead · 30/05/2020 19:33

That Seasalt dress is ugly. I'll stick to my hippy stuff, thank you.

Thecazelets · 30/05/2020 19:39

Wish I'd known - I gave one of those dresses to the charity shop last year! Can't remember why - I loved the sleeves and pockets but I think the length and amount of swingy fabric was a bit weird on me.

I haven't bought any Seasalt for ages but their lovely flat plain leather sandals are on their 3rd summer for me - I love them.

Tellmetruth4 · 30/05/2020 19:57

Sorry but the dress looks pretty unflattering and a bit frumpy to me but each to their own.

Kardashianasssss · 30/05/2020 19:59

Thank god you were outbid- save your money for some nice clothes!

Nomorewineever · 30/05/2020 20:10

The dress that OP mentions is exactly the same design as the fat face Simone dress (which they have every season, year on year, and in two lengths). I own 5 Blush but I mostly wear for work with dark tights and a cardigan. I prefer my summer dresses sleeveless. Plus my Simones are darker and less summery colours. I still covet a Simone giraffe print dress but have never found one even re-sale. They sold out in super fast time.

And the Simone also fetch a fair penny re-sold hence the lack of restraint in buying many - I know they would resell if I got bored.

Catcrazy008 · 30/05/2020 20:19

I have the Simone giraffe dress if you want to buy it! Also bought the top too...

sixthtimelucky · 30/05/2020 20:23

God no YANBU OP, it's horrible!
