...to wonder why these dresses are so sought after?

The dress I'm talking about is the Mill Pool dress, by a brand called Seasalt.

Trying to find a couple of nice summer dresses on eBay. Stumbled across the above dress and liked the look of it (a stripey version; the floral one isn't quite my taste). Placed a bid and was outbid by a mile by about 30 other bidders! This has happened a few times now. They sell for so much money and I'm not sure why?

Probably not an AIBU but I'm curious if anyone knows why these dresses are so sought after? It seems crazy!

I’m seeing a lot of long dresses around with high necks and long sleeves. It all looks a bit... well ‘conservative religious meets little house on the prairie’

I bought a green checked one for a family gathering earlier in the year. Plain style, gathered skirt and 3/4 sleeves. I love it, it is comfortable and I dry it on a hanger so it only needs a little ironing, and it has pockets. But I do think of it as my Commander's Wife dress Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 29/05/2020 12:30

I've just bloody bought one thanks to this thread !Grin

Basically they are White Stuff without the silly twee frou-frous added everywhere / Boden which doesn't scream 'BODEN!' quite so much.

Those dresses - that shape covers a MULTITUDE of sins. They are cleverly cut.

@TrickyD

I know, Fluffybutter, they do the same style for toddlers right up to adults. Many members of the Babipur cult deck themselves and their children out in the identical styles and fabrics. And if you spot someone else wearing one you have to say “Wankel” to them and they have to reply “Radishes are a mainstream vegetable”.
... the fuck....??? Confused
Haffiana · 29/05/2020 12:42

And if you spot someone else wearing one you have to say “Wankel” to them

I won't have trouble remembering that! Grin

Summer clothes are selling v v well on Ebay at the moment with shops closed I have seen primatk ,ladies shorts going for more than new prices for example

Mammyloveswine · 29/05/2020 12:51

Looks like something I'd wear to work (primary school teacher)

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 29/05/2020 12:54

Oh and I love a duns dress as a sz8 I wear kids ones but actually prefer moromini

Potionqueen · 29/05/2020 12:55

I love Seasalt. They do petite which many shops don’t do. I’ve got tee shirts 3 years old which look like new. I’ve just bought a Riviera dress (online) and it fits and looks lovely. Their sandals are really comfy too.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 29/05/2020 12:55

I dont shop at babipur though I prefer supporting smaller independent retailers (my fav are little footprint and Tia rose treasures).

weebarra · 29/05/2020 13:07

Little footprint are my fave. I have never heard anyone say Wankel either!!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 29/05/2020 13:08

Oh god, you are all making me want to try these dresses now and I am supposed not to be spending any money.

Xiaoxiong · 29/05/2020 13:15

I'm wearing my new Trengwainton trousers today and they are perfect for working from home while also going in and out from the garden - they're relaxed, but not jeans or joggers so I feel a bit smarter and wafty without lots of fabric flapping round my ankles. And somehow despite sitting at my desk most of the morning they haven't really creased too badly, unlike so much of the other linen in my wardrobe. I may be going back and buying the butterscotch colour as well...

transformandriseup · 29/05/2020 13:44

Seasalt is local to me so I'm often in the shops, however I find most of the dresses don't have a lot of shape to them and I think they are overpriced for some of the things they sell. I do like their coats though.

Xiaoxiong · 29/05/2020 14:03

I've just figured out that on the website if you look at the section for "up to size 28" you can see some of the dresses on the plus-size models (who looks like they're about a size 14-16). Gives a good idea of what some of the more sack-like dresses look like on someone with bigger boobs and hips!

Midsommar · 29/05/2020 14:05

Some very mixed responses here! I can see why people would buy them as they do look comfortable. They're so expensive though so may look second hand or in the sales Smile I find dresses that flatter me really difficult to find as I'm quite curvy so this may be the one to get!

I know, Fluffybutter, I know.

unlikelytobe · 29/05/2020 15:14

'Land's End' clothes is a bit like this but plainer maybe.

WinterIsGone · 29/05/2020 16:27

This has now appeared at the Daily Mail online!

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8369583/The-45-dress-youve-probably-never-heard-of.html

OP, are you a journalist who has very cleverly started this to create a "story", or a pr person promoting Seasalt??? Grin

diddl · 29/05/2020 16:27

"And if you spot someone else wearing one you have to say “Wankel” to them"

Typo??Grin

Thurmanmurman · 29/05/2020 16:35

No idea. Looks very boring to me.

Buzzfrightyears · 29/05/2020 16:41

Just found this thread thanks to the daily fail. Dress is nice, but nothing special Confused

choli · 29/05/2020 16:41

Fugly as hell.

7ofNine · 29/05/2020 18:39

Yikes, the DM?
Well, if it helps a shop like Seasalt survive then I suppose it's for the greater good.
Now, if only we could persuade them to switch production to the UK that would be even better!
