To be mildly gutted about primark?!

As in that apparently it won't be amongst the 'non essential' shops opening June 15th....

I know they're doing what they think is the right thing (& at this stage in the proceedings non of us know for sure what's best) but I for one am seeing them as pretty darn Essential right now, especially as all my pre lockdown clothes seem to have inexplicably and simultaneously shrunk! Hmm

So many places online seem to have sold out of decent but reasonably priced cotton shorts in my size (newly acquired 12 - apparently - so fairly average) and till today I'd kind of been pinning my hopes on a brief stock up at my local in a week or two but alas it seems its not too be... Sad

Anyone else a bit peeved it's going to have to be either immediate diet or the drastic measure of the shoe horn (resulting in horrific double - ended muffin top, no doubt)?! And also recommend anywhere online I can get some cotton, preferably cotton linen blend, elasticated waist shorts??
I can't be only Lockdown Lardy out there? Grin

I need their make up it's the best and I've worked out what actually works. Ended up buying some Primark flipflops off ebay. Been buying my summer dresses and undies from Poundland clothing section.

Iwantacookie · 27/05/2020 22:22

I'm in dire need of a primark trip. Ide be happy if they just did click and collect atm I'm getting desperate.

squishee · 27/05/2020 22:23

I went there today (not UK). It was quite empty and the changing rooms were closed. I like their bedding.

Poppyismyfavourite · 27/05/2020 22:23

Nothing helpful to say but I snorted out loud at "double ended muffin top"!!!

AgeLikeWine · 27/05/2020 22:23

Primark is absolute junk. I never bought much from there, but gave up on them completely a few years ago.

Tu from Sainsbury’s and George at Asda are much, much better quality.

Macncheeseballs · 27/05/2020 22:24

At some point we have to stop buying cheap disposal clothes and start re-using

3LittleMonkeyz · 27/05/2020 22:25

I haven't shopped at primark for nearly 2 years now. I have found substitutes, but I do have to shop around a bit more and get some things online.

WotsitWiggle · 27/05/2020 22:25

I was hoping they would open for DD. She really needs summer clothes, has outgrown most things from last year. She's 12 but wears ladies size 6, but wants fashion. So I'm limited to Primark, H&M and New Look if I want affordable. I usually buy basics from Primark and a few bits from the other shops so as not to break the bank.

SlothMama · 27/05/2020 22:28

Personally I'd rather see shops staying shut, I want to see my family and friends properly again.

BluebellForest836 · 27/05/2020 22:33

I want primark to open.

I love having a look around and picking up some bargains

Healthyandhappy · 27/05/2020 22:36

Where does it say it isnt opening

Sarjest · 27/05/2020 23:04

Another vote for Asda online. The quality is very good for the price. No queues and they have extended their returns period. My DS has grown a lot since the start of lockdown and it’s summer now!

justasking111 · 27/05/2020 23:06

Tu at Sainsburys have some lovely stuff, have bought a lot online for grand children.

MaxNormal · 27/05/2020 23:08

Macncheeseballs I use Primark as I'm short of money. I certainly don't throw away, I have my stuff for years.

Dieu · 27/05/2020 23:46

I love Primark and miss it too.

healthy:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52808931
"Among department stores, John Lewis will open 13 branches initially, while Next will only reopen 25 of its 500 stores on 15 June. Primark will keep its 190 shops closed until it is "convinced that it is safe and right" to open them."

Peeeas thanks! They look good, have added to my watchlist.

I would wait for the chazzers to open but ours a pretty attrocious on clothes unfortunately so I'm not holding out much hope...

So many snobbish comments.

Primark uses the exact same sweatshops as the much more expensive high street shops. If anything Primark does slightly more to be ethical since they have more scrutiny.

I hate the idea that people who shop at Primark buy an outfit to wear once then chuck. I have a Primark jacket I’ve been wearing for eight years. I have a Primark sweater I bought more than ten years ago. Plenty of people shop there because they are on a limited income, not so they can buy a new dress every week to wear once.

Alderaan · 28/05/2020 02:54

I'm missing charity shops a lot more than Primark. Until lockdown, the only items of clothing I bought new were knickers, socks, bras.

MadamFlutterby · 28/05/2020 03:06

I've not read the entire thread ... awake at 3am with young DS so just scrolling thru ...

But, I'd just today (yesterday) gone online thinking I'll buy a few bits from Primark and convinced myself they will have an online store by now, especially in these new circumstances we are in. But no. They dont. Why not?

e1y1 · 28/05/2020 03:15

@runrabbitrunrunrun

Google ‘Rana Plaza’
Whilst I agree with this and it was awful, there were a lot of brands involved in that, not just Primark.
LaLaLanded · 28/05/2020 06:12

@MadamFlutterby their business model is not to have an online platform - it keeps their costs down.

I miss Primark! In particular the seamless thongs and their trainer socks. I’ve bought trainer socks elsewhere and they aren’t the same... also trying to find shorts that DS will wear (he has an aversion to buttons, zips and most types of material) has been really difficult without Primark but have managed eventually...

ListenLinda · 28/05/2020 06:52

Primark are brilliant for kids clothes, especially what I call their ‘nursery’ clothes. They wash well and last. I love their pjamas and basic strappy teas. Always get a pair of their ‘fake ugg’ type boots in winter too.

ListenLinda · 28/05/2020 06:53

I was hoping they would open soon too but would of avoided for a week or so. Saying that, our Matalan opened last week and you wouldn’t know it, the very few people I have seen going inside.

Hanamuslim · 28/05/2020 07:08

I came across wearesenior.com. they are on Instagram as well and they are having an uptown 90% off sale with free delivery and they have women's sizes 6 to 32. And mens right up to xxxxl

Hanamuslim · 28/05/2020 07:09

That was meant to say -upto 90% off not uptown , lol
