To be mildly gutted about primark?!

As in that apparently it won't be amongst the 'non essential' shops opening June 15th....

I know they're doing what they think is the right thing (& at this stage in the proceedings non of us know for sure what's best) but I for one am seeing them as pretty darn Essential right now, especially as all my pre lockdown clothes seem to have inexplicably and simultaneously shrunk! Hmm

So many places online seem to have sold out of decent but reasonably priced cotton shorts in my size (newly acquired 12 - apparently - so fairly average) and till today I'd kind of been pinning my hopes on a brief stock up at my local in a week or two but alas it seems its not too be... Sad

Anyone else a bit peeved it's going to have to be either immediate diet or the drastic measure of the shoe horn (resulting in horrific double - ended muffin top, no doubt)?! And also recommend anywhere online I can get some cotton, preferably cotton linen blend, elasticated waist shorts??
I can't be only Lockdown Lardy out there? Grin

I want primark open as need some cheap vests lol

Toddlerteaplease · 27/05/2020 20:29

My local M&S has opened up their ground floor for people to mooch around. I was desperate for new jeans.

LellyMcKelly · 27/05/2020 20:29

It’ll be like a plague of locusts going through Primark on the day it opens. You won’t be able to get a 7 pack of white trainer socks for love nor money.

wildcherries · 27/05/2020 20:29

I thought they'd folded from your thread title.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 27/05/2020 20:32

YABU just because Primark are so unethical and produce fast fashion that is killing the planet.

However, there are plenty of online shops that you could get shorts from aren't there?!

Anotherchangeanothername · 27/05/2020 20:32

Why not try depop? Great peer to peer clothes buying app! Also second hand (mostly work once so far) and better for the environment

More concerned that they're not paying suppliers. Women on shitty low wages are going to lose jobs.

TIVI · 27/05/2020 20:36

years ago i thought about buying some "quality" clothing and then found it was made in sweat shops in Taiwan despite high prices . So I did not buy it then and not now either. I am happy for Primark to provide clothes even the beloved M&S does not have many - if any - UK providers of clothes

BreconBeBuggered · 27/05/2020 20:38

I'm wondering how clothes shops will operate, so I'm not surprised to hear that about Primark. I'm an awkward shape, at least a size bigger at the top than the bottom, so I never buy clothes without trying them on. My only supermarket isn't big enough to carry much in the way of adult clothing; we might see dressing gowns and pyjamas around Christmastime, but that's about it unless your fashion requirements are limited to multipacks of knickers,

NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot · 27/05/2020 20:44

healthy thanks just had a look but they don't say what they're made of - I can't be doing with any plastic blends in this weather, sweaty crotch is not a good feeling for me... 😬

Haven't been on ebay or depop for this as its really hard to find what you want if you're not 100% specific and then if it doesn't fit I'll be lumbered with reselling (can you tell this has happened to me before)...

I was hoping someone would wave me a magic shorts - wand Sad

I wouldn’t say H&M sell sweatshop clothes - they’re listed as one of the world’s most ethical companies!

NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot · 27/05/2020 20:47

Peeeas they're a bit thick - not a chino fan normally - but I'm watching them! 😁 Thanks!

Anyone got a linen blend they can find??!

Hmm primark are not cheaper because they're made in sweat shops, expensive clothes shops are made exactly the same as primark. The way primark keep their prices low are: limited marketing (they dont pop up on your social media ads, TV ads or billboards so not paying any of those things) they also then have a small marketing team so less on wages, they dont have an online shop so no need to employ huge IT team, have loads of models and photoshoots to update the website constantly, no warehouse staff to employ for picking and packing, no delivery contracts etc., they rarely pay celebs, influencers etc to post what they got from primark. They have a simple operation unlike other shops

Healthyandhappy · 27/05/2020 20:49

Love h and m but gonna wait until shops open to nip in and get some vests I've got lots of primark shorts from last year which worn today and a friend said looked like pjz lol

fascinated · 27/05/2020 20:55

Fat face cotton chino shorts are lovely. Not elasticated but still comfy.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 27/05/2020 20:55

M & Co?

lalta · 27/05/2020 20:56

I went to marks and Spencer’s in Manchester and there clothing section was open thought everything would be really discounted but no luck

Likethebattle · 27/05/2020 20:58

Dorothy Perkins do good shorts.

DJTanner · 27/05/2020 21:00

Boohoo and Peacocks are both online and are good for affordable clothing.

NotKeenOnSwede · 27/05/2020 21:03

Yes I just paid £12.50 for a pair of average flip flops elsewhere knowing I could've bought a lovely pair in Primark for a fiver Envy

msflibble · 27/05/2020 21:04

OP get on eBay! There are so many bargains and awesome bundles of stuff on sale for a pittance. I've bought everything from Camper shoes and Cos cardigans on there, for next to nothing.

Mrsmadevans · 27/05/2020 21:07

I love Primark too Grin , stretchy tees, long and short sleeved, vest tops, leggings, Swimwear, socks, pants bras, nightwear , their everyday basics are excellent quality & value. They wash & dry well too.

Rosebel · 27/05/2020 21:21

Primark quality isn't that bad. My children are almost teens and still love that shop. It's their favourite, they'll be gutted it's not open. Find the stuff lasts about as long as,supermarket clothes.
