To be mildly gutted about primark?!

As in that apparently it won't be amongst the 'non essential' shops opening June 15th....

I know they're doing what they think is the right thing (& at this stage in the proceedings non of us know for sure what's best) but I for one am seeing them as pretty darn Essential right now, especially as all my pre lockdown clothes seem to have inexplicably and simultaneously shrunk! Hmm

So many places online seem to have sold out of decent but reasonably priced cotton shorts in my size (newly acquired 12 - apparently - so fairly average) and till today I'd kind of been pinning my hopes on a brief stock up at my local in a week or two but alas it seems its not too be... Sad

Anyone else a bit peeved it's going to have to be either immediate diet or the drastic measure of the shoe horn (resulting in horrific double - ended muffin top, no doubt)?! And also recommend anywhere online I can get some cotton, preferably cotton linen blend, elasticated waist shorts??
I can't be only Lockdown Lardy out there? Grin

@Macncheeseballs,you do realise that some peop!e buy from Primark because that's all their budget can afford? Not everyone who buys from there does so for disposable clothes 🙄

Nanalisa60 · 28/05/2020 18:53

I went to my ASDA super store today went upstairs were the clothes are, it was very quiet and I had a good old look round, tones of lovely kids, and Adult cloths. Bought a few things I was perfectly fine. Household part was also very quiet.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 28/05/2020 18:54

I'm going to defend Primark - I've been wearing pajama bottoms from there for a while every day for months and they have been dab - still in shape and look like new. I have also bought bedding for DD which also looks like new and hasn't gone all bobbly like the stuff from Next which cost 3× as much. I've bought DH t shirts which have lasted too. I'm not saying everything is wonderful but it is certainly not worse quality than a lot of clothes on the high street which cost more!

OP try Morrisons. I got an email today and they've just relaunched their clothing home delivery orders. I ordered a pair of soft black shorts. Since it's just re launched you might be lucky with getting your size in stock. Best of luck - I've been hunting for bras for DD for ages!

Frozenfan2019 · 28/05/2020 19:03

I sincerely hope Primark never opens again.

^ i feel the same. H&m are far more ethical than Primark and not much more expensive. Sainsbury's Tu are also quite good and m&s if you can afford a bit more lasts really well. The idea that those of us who care about ethical clothing just buy expensive stuff is insulting and wholly incorrect. I have looked into this a great deal and agree that there are some shockingly bad expensive stores but there are also some good ones.

Op Primark are not great and the reason all of your clothes have stretched is , let's face it, because they are cheaply made. If you can't afford to pay a bit more (even h&m prices) then look on eBay. You can get some really good quality clothes second hand and they will last far longer than Primark plus it's great for the environment.

@Toilandstripes Not everyone can afford to buy stuff in better quality shops dear. Not id you want to change your clothes now and again. Primark is cheap but actually quality is not always bad. I love the childrens clothes as they as they are often bright colours and latest fashion at very reduced prices. Nothing wrong with "Primani" clothes. But wont be going anytime soon as they are often very busy.

HairyPottyMouth · 28/05/2020 19:10

Try online. There’s a site called everything 5 pounds.

JFM27 · 28/05/2020 19:15

I think H&M have way nicer and better clothes and many of them are only slight dearer than Primark.Give it a go,shops much more pleasant too.

My friend who normally never shops at Primark as i dont,as said prefer H&M,saw a wrapover dress she liked there,it was a nice print, when she got it home all seams were coming apart,She took it back looked on rail every dress was same, seams all split.she got her money back.Ive never had that in H&M.

Pombeary1 · 28/05/2020 19:15

Try Sainsbury’s, I have brought some clothes there in the sale like £6.80 for a fluffy dressing gown. They are so cheap and very decent quality, far better than Primark. Beside you can do click and collect when spend over £20. H&M do free delivery and free return and their stuff are pretty consistent decent too, certainly will last a year or so. I am talking comparing quality to Boden, Zara and M& S. Tbh, I won’t want to go to Primark, Next or any clothe shops, it will be epic long queue and stressful. hope you managed to find something you want online ☺️

Aridane · 28/05/2020 19:17

Primark is awful tat, cheaply made. Buy yourself a few good bits from the sales of the better shops. The clothes will last longer and look better.

No it isn’t

Don’t be a rampaging snob

TrishTeres · 28/05/2020 19:23

It can be taken as a great incentive to get back to fitter pre-lockdown sizing!? I am the same dress size - but given how crazy busy I've been I thought I would have lost weight. Not so it seems. But I do feel fitter ie: more tired and everything aching! "Weight" isn't everything.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 28/05/2020 19:23

I like fat face shorts, I think they're called flippy shorts or something like that? Anyway, elasticated waist and cotton. They seem to be having lots of random sales at the moment and delivery is free and quick

TrishTeres · 28/05/2020 19:24

I wear Primark pyjama bottoms as outer wear trousers often. Really works with the right design. So comfortable.

Teen13nightmare · 28/05/2020 19:50

Hi try Marks and Spencer online, they have a good sale too. You can have it delivered to your local store or home. I'm lucky our M+S clothing store has been open for a couple of weeks now.. they also have a great linen line too. Good luck.

Rubyscute · 28/05/2020 20:07

@Eckhart

Primark does take the cake. One time I bought a cardigan there and when I tried it on I couldn't figure out wtf was wrong with it at first, then I realised the sleeves had been sewn on inside out.

Badouchka1 · 28/05/2020 20:10

Have you tried Nutmeg? They’re selling online, Amazon, Sports Direct, M&M Direct, TU, EBay outlet, Dorothy Perkins, Very, Studio, La Redoute, Boden, Joules, M&S, Next, H&M, Debenhams - there are loads!

Asda have temporarily ceased clothes sales.

Badouchka1 · 28/05/2020 20:13

Nutmeg have loads cheaply priced

To be mildly gutted about primark?!
PerfectlyImperfectx · 28/05/2020 20:26

Elasticated waist black shorts. Size 12 in stock www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/shorts/black-belted-high-waist-shorts/p/650748001

OP I feel your pain, my clothes seem to have shrunk too. Damn washing machine Hmm

browneyes77 · 28/05/2020 20:29

You could try New Look, Peacocks, Matalan, Dorothy Perkins, H&M or ASOS for reasonably priced clothing.

I’ve put a bit of weight on during lockdown and had to buy all new shorts as can’t get into my old ones. I bought all mine from here (have purchased form here regularly). I got a nice pair of cotton/linen blend ones that fit beautifully and are super comfy too.

browneyes77 · 28/05/2020 20:32

Shein are good..and cheap...better quality than primark too

Yes actually I have purchased from Shein. They have some really nice stuff and good prices. Comes in nice packaging too.

SuperFurryDoggy · 28/05/2020 20:47

@runrabbitrunrunrun

Google ‘Rana Plaza’
I googled Rana Plaza. Just awful Sad However the factories in question “ manufactured apparel for brands including Benetton, Bonmarché, Prada, Gucci, Versace, Moncler, the Children's Place, El Corte Inglés, Joe Fresh, Mango, Matalan, Primark and Walmart” which seems to suggest that price is not a good indication of ethical credentials.

Does anyone have any suggestions of cheaper end of market clothing retailers who allow you to try on clothing and return (because I’m awful at guessing whether clothes will fit properly)? I have somehow managed to lose weight during lockdown and nothing from the waist is staying up properly!

On the subject of Primark clothes being poor quality, it must depend on what you buy as the only clothing I recall buying from there (3 pairs of jeans, some bralets and a jumper, from memory) have washed and worn beautifully. The jeans fit well and the bums never go saggy, unlike those from Zara and Next which have been thrown away.

SuperFurryDoggy · 28/05/2020 21:18

...and I’ve just answered my own question.

This website reckons that New Look is at the more ethical end of the lower priced high street shops if you have to shop new or shop cheap.

It also has handy links to The Good Shopping Guide and Ethical Consumer although the two website do contradict each other.

Jumpjumpjumper · 28/05/2020 21:22

Why do people love H&M? It's like a shitty jumble sale, it's poor quality, sizing is all over the place, overpriced and dull.

CayrolBaaaskin · 28/05/2020 21:29

Primark stuff is fine for quality and made in the same place as far more expensive retailers. I miss it especially for kids stuff and summer clothes (mine too seem to have shrunk over lockdown)

GoodEnough1 · 28/05/2020 21:31

You are definitely not alone. Just have to
Let it all hang out. I’m sure you still look fab 😄

Frozenfan2019 · 28/05/2020 21:42

Why do people love H&M? It's like a shitty jumble sale, it's poor quality, sizing is all over the place, overpriced and dull.

We are just citing places that are relatively cheap but more ethical than Primark and also open at the moment! I think some stores are far better than other. My local one is only a few years old and I love it there. It's not jumble sale like at all. The one I used to go to in a city was awful and I rarely bought anything.
