To report neighbour who’s gone abroad for half term

Hi all,
I’ve just found out my neighbour, husband & kids have gone to Europe for half term. They’ve driven & say they’ve gone to visit parents (they are originally from Italy). I’m totally furious. I’d love to see my elderly unwell parents, but like everyone (except Dominic Cummings), have followed the advice & stayed at home. Why should she be allowed back in when she’s gone for no good reason? Also, her kids will be back at school with my daughter from June 1st. I don’t feel comfortable with the fact they’ve all travelled on ferries & across Europe & then coming into school. It’s just not fair how these people do what they want with no repercussions. But is reporting her a step too far? Presumably she would know it was me & then never speak to me again!

Yabu, they might have childcare issues

AriadnesFilament · 24/05/2020 21:46

Report to who?!

FOJN · 24/05/2020 21:46

Tedgy
Are you Boris Johnson? Grin

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 21:47

Presumably the ferries aren't running just for them? What are the reasons people can travel abroad?

Destroyedpeople · 24/05/2020 21:47

you wouldn't say a word if they were British and you know it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/05/2020 21:47

Well if mps can do it. They will have to self isolate when they come back.

understandmenow · 24/05/2020 21:48

MYOB

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/05/2020 21:49

new poster as well

Tedgy · 24/05/2020 21:49

Are you Boris Johnson?

Obviously not, as I gave a clear answer.

BirdieFriendReturns · 24/05/2020 21:49

Why is the default on Mumsnet to report everything? We aren’t in primary school!

user1635482648 · 24/05/2020 21:49

It's ok, we're all allowed to use our common sense to make up our own rules now.

BillywilliamV · 24/05/2020 21:50

Just do whatever gives you the warmest , fuzzy glow of righteousness OP!

justhereforthetips · 24/05/2020 21:50

Oh ffs

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 24/05/2020 21:51

Well presumably they didn't drive the whole way across the sea, and were allowed to board a ferry?

KingOfDogShite · 24/05/2020 21:52

AIBU to want to MN to develop a filter so I can block any thread with the word report in it?

MYOB.

Natalielondon · 24/05/2020 21:52

I am also not British so no racist motives underlying here. How is it an essential journey? They have no childcare issues.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/05/2020 21:53

@Tedgy Grin Or it might be a parental instinct.

Taciturn · 24/05/2020 21:53

I thought Italy had lifted lockdown. I'm not sure what rules you think are being broken here.

Destroyedpeople · 24/05/2020 21:54

Honestly all these people who want to 'report ' their neighbours is scary and makes you realise how easy it was for people to be turned against their neighbours in 1930s Europe.
OP would you have 'gone nazi' for seven gilders?
It does sound like it.

WhyNotMe40 · 24/05/2020 21:55

To be fair they are probably at a lower risk of infection in Italy than the UK going by current figures. It should be Italy that's worried!

Destroyedpeople · 24/05/2020 21:55

Oh you're not British so you can't be racist? ..right ok then.

AriadnesFilament · 24/05/2020 21:55

Again, who do you want to report this to?

EmeraldShamrock · 24/05/2020 21:56

There's nothing you can do about it. Their family might need them for urgent care? You don't know the circumstances.
My friends DD flew to the UK to buy a car on Monday and got the ferry home Tuesday with her pals. Hmm

tiredanddangerous · 24/05/2020 21:56

Well their kids won’t be back in school for June 1st because they have to isolate for 14 days when they get back.
