To report neighbour who’s gone abroad for half term

Hi all,
I’ve just found out my neighbour, husband & kids have gone to Europe for half term. They’ve driven & say they’ve gone to visit parents (they are originally from Italy). I’m totally furious. I’d love to see my elderly unwell parents, but like everyone (except Dominic Cummings), have followed the advice & stayed at home. Why should she be allowed back in when she’s gone for no good reason? Also, her kids will be back at school with my daughter from June 1st. I don’t feel comfortable with the fact they’ve all travelled on ferries & across Europe & then coming into school. It’s just not fair how these people do what they want with no repercussions. But is reporting her a step too far? Presumably she would know it was me & then never speak to me again!

Is it against the rules?

They won’t even need to isolate for 14 days if they get back fore something like the 8th of June so the govt can’t be that bothered!

SunflowerSeedsForever · 24/05/2020 21:57

What rule do you thinks been broken?

formerbabe · 24/05/2020 21:58

How did they get over the sea? Like a pp said, they must have been allowed to board a ferry?

Anyway, get a grip

OnYourMarksGetSetBAAAAKE · 24/05/2020 21:59

They will have to be quarantined for 2 weeks when they come back 🤷🏻‍♀️

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/05/2020 21:59

Just checked and yes it’s from the 8th of June for isolating rules. So now is the perfect time to go abroad!

Why the fuck the govt have chosen to wait weeks before implementing it I have no idea.

CallmeAngelina · 24/05/2020 21:59

I would have thought Italy was safer than the UK right now.

But yes, they will surely have to quarantine when they return?

Absolutely agree with destroyedpeople I used to wonder how it is a society accepted Nazi rule and now I can imagine folk cheering via zoom for public chastisment of those who infringe lockdown guidance.

SuperMumTum · 24/05/2020 22:00

They're obviously mad or don't follow the news. Driving to Italy? With no cafes, restaurants, hotels or campsites open en route? Having to cross minimum of 2 borders where they could be turned away at either. Possibility (likelihood?) of quarantine at either end.

BacklashStarts · 24/05/2020 22:00

I’m not really sure who you would report them to. How are they getting there? I didn’t think ferries were running?

Just make sure you are right before you do anything.

milveycrohn · 24/05/2020 22:01

My niece went back to France last week.
Came here at the start of lockdown.
People have been coming in and leaving all the time.
I would not report anybody, unless they were having a very loud party at 2.00 am.

EdwinaMay · 24/05/2020 22:02

They need to quarantine when they come back in the country. Which I doubt they will do. Perhaps find out the rules concerning that.

fiorentina · 24/05/2020 22:02

Eurotunnel hasn’t stopped running. Our neighbours have returned to Asia, I have not even considered ‘reporting’ them. Who to?!

Soph88888 · 24/05/2020 22:02

Let it go

Sparklfairy · 24/05/2020 22:03

*Are you Boris Johnson?

Obviously not, as I gave a clear answer.*

🙄

Gregoria67 · 24/05/2020 22:06

Totally agree with you Destroyed. This nasty little undercurrent of net curtain twitchers is the thing that has most surprised me in these times. So peculiar. I thought we'd all learned a lesson from the events back in the 1930s and early 1940s. We are all horrified by the person who reported Ann Frank's family for example - but a similar attitude is rearing its ugly head here.

Natalielondon · 24/05/2020 22:06

Jeez, didn’t expect to be called a nazi, pretty lazy trope tbh. We’re in the middle of a pandemic & the emergency legislation makes it unlawful to undertake non essential journeys. Why should some people follow the rules & others ignore them? But you know what, the reaction makes me understand, I am being unreasonable, so I won’t report her. Thank you for your insights.

I'm appalled at the number of people wanting to report their neighbours. It's unbelievable.

Isawthathaggis · 24/05/2020 22:06

Agree with PP, now Dominic Cummings has set a precedent, they can do what they like. As long as they are ‘good parents’.

understandmenow · 24/05/2020 22:07

They should've gone outside of half term, it would've been. Healer!

understandmenow · 24/05/2020 22:07

It would've been cheaper

FFS!

BlackberryCane · 24/05/2020 22:08

The Attorney General will be fine with it I'm sure.

feesh · 24/05/2020 22:08

You know that thousands of people are coming in through Heathrow every day, right? Travel is still happening!

maddy68 · 24/05/2020 22:08

They are allowed fail to see your point?
