To report neighbour who’s gone abroad for half term

Natalielondon · 24/05/2020 21:41

Hi all,
I’ve just found out my neighbour, husband & kids have gone to Europe for half term. They’ve driven & say they’ve gone to visit parents (they are originally from Italy). I’m totally furious. I’d love to see my elderly unwell parents, but like everyone (except Dominic Cummings), have followed the advice & stayed at home. Why should she be allowed back in when she’s gone for no good reason? Also, her kids will be back at school with my daughter from June 1st. I don’t feel comfortable with the fact they’ve all travelled on ferries & across Europe & then coming into school. It’s just not fair how these people do what they want with no repercussions. But is reporting her a step too far? Presumably she would know it was me & then never speak to me again!

Could be worse. They could be going to Cornwall.

Ireolu · 24/05/2020 22:52

I think lockdown fatigue set in about a month ago and the roads going into work (keyworker) have got busier and busier. I honestly don't the majority are sticking to the rules. I would be reporting everyone on my street. Our lockdown was also never that strict.

savehalloween · 24/05/2020 22:53

Why should she be allowed back in

Careful OP, your xenophobia is showing.

wafflyversatile · 24/05/2020 22:54

Sorry 20 quid. Not 30 quid.

noraclavicle · 24/05/2020 22:55

I am also not British so no racist motives

Wow, you have got to be kidding me.

My ‘originally Italian’ work colleague has just gone back to Italy to her parents. Didn’t occur to me to report her. But I’m British, so I must be racist. Oh, the confusion!

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 24/05/2020 22:56

i barely see any aeroplanes, none in fact today

HelpMeh · 24/05/2020 22:56

I don't know why people keep saying they'll need to quarantine for 2 weeks when they come back. That doesn't come into force until June 8th.

My OH recently repatriated to the UK. Frankly we're more worried that he'll catch it in the UK than spread it to others - he came from somewhere with significantly less cases and tougher lockdown measures.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 24/05/2020 22:57

are you sure they are not going to Durham?

OnceUponACat · 24/05/2020 22:58

They have followed thwir instinct

Broceliande · 24/05/2020 22:58

Well OP, after 9 weeks of watching my husband sink into the relapse of a depression that left him suicidal last year, we've just travelled 300 miles to move in with my parents because I couldn't look after him and our two young children and work. I have several friends in mental health services and none of them had received any government guidelines on what to do, so I made the journey feeling like a horrible, selfish criminal for trying to protect my family. It would be a kick in the chest if our neighbours reported us on top of everything else. Don't judge unless you are absolutely certain of the circumstances.

Cyberattack · 24/05/2020 22:59

Maybe they don't intend to come back until September? Or ever?

FunnysInLaJardin · 24/05/2020 22:59

And now I have read this thread I totally understand why the UK has such a high rate of CV cases and deaths. Its not about civil liberties, we are not fighting the Nazi's, this is a life and death situation with a killer virus.

Most of you should be ashamed of your attitudes.

People should be staying at home to stop the spread of the virus, not turning a bling eye and saying meh, its up to them innit FFS

Bleepbloopblarp · 24/05/2020 23:00

I’d be surprised if they got all the way to Italy. We can’t even do the one hour drive over to Wales for fear of getting stopped and fined!

ToffeeYoghurt · 24/05/2020 23:03

I agree with a PP. Italy has more to worry about then us. We're the worse infected country. I'm surprised they're letting her in actually.

The UK is one of the only countries in the world without border restrictions during the pandemic.

We've had hundreds of thousands of people arrive at our airports over the last two months. No checks or quarantine. The fake quarantine planned from 8 June will ask travellers to self isolate. After travelling to their destination - likely on public transport.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 24/05/2020 23:04

but seriously, who would you report to?

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 24/05/2020 23:05

on what planes?
i have seen no planes

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 24/05/2020 23:08

They can travel to the beach.. shit behind a beach hut.. doesn't have to be here.. a beach in Italy isn't too far away!

ToffeeYoghurt · 24/05/2020 23:09

You may not have seen the planes but they're still coming and going.
The government figures about two weeks stated a minimum of 95,000 arrivals.
Check out flight radar too. I assume less traffic on a bank holiday Sunday but perhaps take a look next week.

Alsohuman · 24/05/2020 23:15

the emergency legislation makes it unlawful to undertake non essential journeys

Not any more. Johnson knocked that on the head a fortnight ago. And quarantine doesn’t start until 8 June. The amount of misinformation on this thread is terrifying.

lilgreen · 24/05/2020 23:16

If they turn up at school you can report them if they are not isolating for 14 days. Depends if their surname is Cummings really.

GachaBread · 24/05/2020 23:17

Would reporting them make you feel better?Do you think they will get arrested, get a fine or maybe do you want them thrown in prison?

Is that what you really want for them because that kinda indicates what sort of person you are.

You know nothing of their business but yet you feel you need to voice what you think you know from what your eyes tell you.

They could be leaving to attend a funeral or other pressing matters for all you know. If someone really is going to go abroad for whatever reason in this pandemic to me that seems like a pretty urgent trip in my eyes.

I know people have time on their hands lately but this really has to stop. This new uprising of neighbourhood watchers is starting to piss me off.

You seem like one of my neighbours who last week posted a note through my door for being disgusted that I have not joined in with clapping for the last five weeks. My next door but one neighbour got the same note too.
Thought she was a little ninja coming in the dead of the night posting her dickhead notes. But I caught her lovely on my cameras and now she obviously feels like an utter shite especially when she found out that my next door but one is a midwife who actually works for the NHS.
Moral of the story.....mind your own business!

Leave it to the official channels. If there are rules governing where people can travel, then someone will stop them. If they aren't stopped, presumably they aren't breaking any rules. In the UK, all they are presumably doing is driving to a port, which you are allowed to do. If the French want to stop them for driving through France, or the Italians want them to self-isolate when they get there, that is up to them to police.

The only time their would be a problem is if they travelled back here after the quarantine rules had been implemented and didn't follow them. Although I'm not sure that there are any plans to check people who are supposed to be quarantining, so most probably won't bother.

Pixxie7 · 24/05/2020 23:26

What is the point they can’t do anything anyway. All any of us can do is take of our own.

peachesandclean · 24/05/2020 23:29

"to Europe"

could you be any more vague
