Just that really.
We’re going to struggle when she goes

LoseLooseLucy · 08/05/2020 21:08

Struggle with what though?

ViciousJackdaw · 08/05/2020 21:09

We're struggling now though. I do agree that things will be even worse when she snuffs it though, there'll be no decent radio or tv for the best part of a week.

user1498572889 · 08/05/2020 21:09

Yes we are. The monarchy will never generate the same feelings again.

huntinthehornybacktoad · 08/05/2020 21:10

I suppose struggle without the person who personifies continuity in the face of crisis?

OP posts:
BolloxtoGender · 08/05/2020 21:12

Yes, she symbolises a constant in a constantly changing world.

66redballons · 08/05/2020 21:13

I agree, I don’t know why I like the queen but had to mute smug Wills n Kate. Again I don’t know why. Think it’s because they try too hard to be “next door” and ordinary people, but are so far from it, it’s patronising.

Pelleas · 08/05/2020 21:14

She lives and has always led a pampered life of luxury. She's sitting on untold wealth and empty properties while thousands of her 'subjects' are homeless and in poverty.

Not very cool.

66redballoons -agree. Kate is a class act but not in the same league.

I think it’s the sharpness of the Queen’s intellect that impressed me tonight - the assuredness about what to say/what not to say.

RedHelenB · 08/05/2020 21:16

Just watched William and Kate on bbc1 talking to the residents of a care home and there was nothing to criticise them for. Still don't see the need for a royal family though.

VladmirsPoutine · 08/05/2020 21:16

Is she currently personifying unity in this current time? Not sure about you but I haven't seen or heard anyone being offered free digs at any of her residencies. Hasn't it just been one or two zoom calls by Kate and William?

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2020 21:16

I never really think about her, she's just the Queen. When she does go imagine the threads on here. Shock

PenfoldsFive · 08/05/2020 21:23

Coronavirus HAS to be over before she dies, otherwise the internet will get full up.

Lazingonasunnyafternoon20 · 08/05/2020 21:23

@VladmirsPoutine

I haven't seen or heard anyone being offered free digs at any of her residencies.

Smile

Can you imagine that?

Alright lads, lets get real. I got a couple of rooms on the east wing of Buck House you can use, towels and stuff in the corridor. Out by 9 in the morning, no drugs, parties or guests overnight and its your for a tenner.

Lazingonasunnyafternoon20 · 08/05/2020 21:23

for the lekky, obviously Grin

carltongirl · 08/05/2020 21:25

Agree with Pelleas. pampered life of luxury. Increasingly irrelevant and all a waste of taxpayers money.

LuminousAmber · 08/05/2020 21:25

I think it’s the sharpness of the Queen’s intellect that impressed me tonight - the assuredness about what to say/what not to say

You are joking?

I have a lot of respect for the queen (and equal amounts of pity to be born into a life you have no choice in). I think she bears her duty stoically and remains dignified.

But she’s an old lady that reads words off a monitor that someone else writes for her. It’s no demonstration of HER intellect or opinion or personality.

The words that come out of her mouth demonstrate her good diction, confident speaking voice and the worth of paying for a bloody good writer.

Crowbarred · 08/05/2020 21:28

She personifies nothing but unearned hereditary privilege in an increasingly unequal country. The monarchy is an anachronistic embarrassment, regardless of the individual who happens to be monarch at any one point.

huntinthehornybacktoad · 08/05/2020 21:31

“Coronavirus HAS to be over before she dies, otherwise the internet will get full up.”
:)
I suspect she’s hanging on for that.

Erm really? I suppose struggle without the person who personifies continuity in the face of crisis?

That's the narrative people want you to believe.

Samtsirch · 08/05/2020 21:33

Do you remember when the Queen Mother’s PR put out that she was
“Cool” or “relevant “ during the war, when she dined on cream cakes and port whilst most people were struggling on rations?
While she made sure any gay people of her employ would never work again, or even dare to go out in public again?
Don’t trust the PR
Study history

ScarletFever · 08/05/2020 21:33

what is the point of the Royal Family though? Shes an old lady and should have stopped working a long time ago, but she cant because if she steps down she knows Charles is next. No one wants Charles on the throne, Anne would have been ok if we had to have someone

We should abolish the Royal Family.

Pelleas · 08/05/2020 21:34

Beautifully put, Crowbarred.

LoKiMummy · 08/05/2020 21:35

I have a lot of respect for her but I’m not sure if she’s cool

Bookoffacts · 08/05/2020 21:36

God save the Queen

I think she's brilliant.

King Charles won't be too bad though either. He's already 71, very intelligent and woke before it was even a thing.
