Just that really.
We’re going to struggle when she goes

Whoever described her as a class act was spot on. She’s 94, sharp as a needle and still refuses to retire after 68 years. Amazing woman, they don’t make them like her any more.

Only goes to prove what an extremely pampered life she lives. Why is she amazing for not wanting to give up such privilege. Probably the only reason she doesn’t retire is her belief that her successor would screw up. Certainly not for any love of the people. The preservation of the monarchy at all costs. What a parasitical institution they are.

Standrewsschool · 09/05/2020 07:58

I thought the speech last night was lovely. Not bad for a 90+ year old.

As for tourism? 4 x as many people visit Versaille as Buck house, obviously with no occupants, we could open up the Palaces and generate more income Yawn

Quillink · 09/05/2020 08:10

I admire the Queen for her self control and extreme sense of duty.

As Pp said I'd be happy for the monarchy to die with her or at the very least be severely reduced. A palace in each country would be more than sufficient. The monarch and heir can be funded but that should be it.

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:13

Maybe they should just take the Crown Estate back

It doesn't belong to them to take back. Shock Maybe we should just keep the lot, which we would if we abolished the monarchy.

Idontbelieveit12 · 09/05/2020 08:14

She’s defo not cool Hmm

Maybelatte · 09/05/2020 08:17

We really won’t struggle.

Oxfordnono12 · 09/05/2020 08:18

No, I dont believe she is cool. She has a standard to up keep!

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:19

My 95 year old neighbour lives alone, does all her own housework, cooks, makes bread, does her own decorating and gardening.Shes brought up 6 children, widowed young and worked bloody hard all her life. Now SHE is someone I admire, SHE is the definition of cool, not a pampered old woman surrounded by an army of servants, private physicians, and had everything given to her.

She has good speech writers. Her speeches recently have been very well written.

The thought of Charles being king, or William and Kate, makes me cringe.

1forsorrow · 09/05/2020 08:23

Yes she should hand some of her properties back. Who should she hand them back to? Her dead father, grandfather, great grandfather? Or do you mean the state should start confiscating property, if so watch out for yours.

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:24

1 firsorrow. It's not theirs to keep. How outrageous and obscene if it was.

1forsorrow · 09/05/2020 08:29

It is the property of the Crown so she can't sell it or give it away it passes to her from her father and it will pass from her to Prince Charles. It is a bit like Mr Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, he has his estate for his lifetime and then it passes to next in line.

One thing for sure, it isn't yours and it isn't mine. If you would like a bloody revolution and Communism like Russia it could be taken but then so could anything you or I own.

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:35

Why would we revert to communism if we became a republic? It would become a democratic country with a fair system in place where we get to vote in a president, with the added bonus of not being saddled with a bloated extended family with all the costs of security. Ireland works very well, and is a hell of a lot cheaper. The money saved could be spent on something worthwhile.

TheRealMrsKeanuReeves · 09/05/2020 08:35

😂

FiveEyes · 09/05/2020 08:37

I never see the Queen as supportive - I can't get my head around that. I don't see the point of her.
I've heard good things about Charles from people I know who have spoken to him - people who weren't expecting to be impressed by him but they were. Whether it's learned or comes naturally he has the gift of making people feel like they are the most interesting people in the room. He'll do as good a job as his mother if the press give him half a chence.

Dodgytrousers · 09/05/2020 08:37

I'm English and I'm patriotic and I love the Queen!

Alsohuman · 09/05/2020 08:40

What utter fucking nonsense. Being sharp as a pin in your 90s is a total lottery, dementia is no respecter of money or privilege. My dad led a far from pampered life and was exactly like the Queen.

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:40

Who should she hand them back to? Her dead father, grandfather, great grandfather? She doesn't own all those properties, why should she keep them. The government allow other people to lose their homes quite easily.

DameXanaduBramble · 09/05/2020 08:43

We won’t struggle. Get rid of the whole lot.

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:44

Obviously there are exceptions but statistics state otherwise.

Sostenueto · 09/05/2020 08:44

From the minute the Queen put on her crown in 1953 aged 27 yrs old her life has not been her own. Yes, she leads a luxurious life in the full face if public scrutiny. I don't think people realise just what she gave up when that crown was placed upon her head. She gave up the one thing we all have and take for granted but she does not have. Freedom to do and say exactly what you want. She cannot say what she wants, she cannot go where she wants. Her life is ran for her by the fact she is our Queen. She can't decide to jump in her car and disappear it just nip to the shops to have a browse. It is her freedom she had to give up, her privacy, her own opinions both political and emotional must never be voiced. She didn't ask to be Queen, in fact she should never been Queen but because if abdication and the death of her father she became Queen. Yes you can argue she lives in luxury never has to worry about finances. But I personally would not have had the strength to do what she has done all these years. The price she has had to pay personally is so high. I think she has been a great inspiration to those that understand the real sacrifices she has made to be our Queen. God save the Queen!

Pelleas · 09/05/2020 08:45

What would you like her to do - give it away to the first people in the queue? Grow up.

Oh, come on - it surely doesn't take great exercise of mind to think of sensible ways this could be implemented. Put the properties in the hands of an existing charity such as Shelter? Set up a new charity or QANGO to do it? Put the matter in the hands of local councils?
