Just that really.
We’re going to struggle when she goes

Charles is woke? Wtf? He's a bit of a greenie, sure, but I don't think black American political activists would agree that a white British prince is 'woke'.

cdtaylornats · 08/05/2020 21:59

The point of the Royal Family

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Spanish_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat_attempt

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 08/05/2020 21:59

The Queen and Prince Philip are fantastic, for different reasons.
Charles is okay I guess.
Beyond Charles, the rest can bugger off. Wills and Kate, Harry and meghan and all their kids. If they removed the monarchy after the Queen I'd be fine with it.

PhilSwagielka · 08/05/2020 22:00

Also, at the risk of getting a lot of abuse on here, I'm pretty apathetic about the royal family, I've never had any strong feelings for or against them. They're just there.

LastTrainEast · 08/05/2020 22:00

When the virus struck she moved to a castle which was easier to defend and keep her infected subjects well away. She then looked at her £billions and decided she couldn't spare a penny for those in need.

Wolfgirrl · 08/05/2020 22:01

The Queen hasn't brought scandal or embarrassment to the country, but there isn't a whole lot to be 'admired' about her, apart from the fact she is plodding on with her duties in her 90s.

She has had a life of unimaginable privilege. She has probably never done her own washing up; never ironed her clothes; never paid a bill; never put the bins out; never mown her own lawn; never commuted to work; never had a job interview; never had to cook her own meals; never had to do much heavy lifting in terms of childcare; never hoovered or dusted; probably never even had to run her own bath except for the odd occasion.

So it really isnt surprising she looks and acts a bit younger than her 90s.

People that 'love' the Queen are the sort of people that read the Daily Mail, look back on a 'golden age' that was actually full of poverty and polio, and use nonsensical phrases such as 'bulldog spirit'.

LastTrainEast · 08/05/2020 22:02

cdtaylornats she is a ninja who will protect the government with her life?

fuckinghellthisshit · 08/05/2020 22:04

I pity the Queen. Her son is a peadophile, how horrific. How utterly and totally awful, utter shame. And yet she stands with him in Church, so shame on her.

Samtsirch · 08/05/2020 22:05

@Bookoffacts
Are you a fan of The Smiths ?🤣
You can’t be Woke before it’s a thing,
That’s an Oxymoron.
The Queen is dead boys and life is easier on a limb.
Try harder.

MitziK · 08/05/2020 22:08

Yeah, we'll struggle. After all, according to the BBC, we can't manage without (checks listings) 12-20 programmes about antiques, car boot sales and property development every single day of the week - whatever would we do without those, Mrs Brown's Boys and Graham Norton for a few days?

Pedallleur · 08/05/2020 22:09

She does the job because she was born into it and it's bloody nice. Nice houses, meet interesting people etc. I understand the sense of duty but really she or I should say the Monarchy is not relevant in today's world. It suits the elite to have it since there are awards involved etc but if the Monarchy went next week what would we miss? We can still have changing the guard, trooping the colour etc but the rest of it?

Patapouf · 08/05/2020 22:09

I think we'll manage just fine. I'm not sure what it is exactly you think she does 🤔

66redballons · 08/05/2020 22:09

The queen has to go another 5 years after all the God save the Queen requests from tonight.

Samtsirch · 08/05/2020 22:10

@huntinthehornybacktoad
Is she ugly fucking the uncool?
Who are you to judge?

everythingisginandroses · 08/05/2020 22:11

YABU.

Kljnmw3459 · 08/05/2020 22:11

I prefer William, he seems to be able to connect better and easier with regular people.

Buttybach · 08/05/2020 22:12

I think she is pretty cool. I have been in guiding all my life. She was a guide and a sea ranger and was active in the war effort as a teen. She was also in the ATS and trained as a mechanic. My grandmother was also in the ATS and by all accounts she really mucked in and took part in it rather than it being a PR exercise.
She doesn't come across as terribly warm when she speaks but I totally respect her strength

Buttybach · 08/05/2020 22:14

I respect the fact that she didn't harp on about her own experiences in the war in her speech as it was about the people.

VeryQuaintIrene · 08/05/2020 22:14

Liz, is that you?

thedevilinablackdress · 08/05/2020 22:14

She personifies nothing but unearned hereditary privilege
This ⬆️
What on earth would I struggle with???
What is the point of the monarchy???

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 08/05/2020 22:17

I think she is an admirable woman.
She obviously has been born to a life of privilege but that is not her fault. Drove ambulances in the war and has spent her whole life trying to do her best to serve her country.
I think history will remember her well.

Her last 2 speeches have been superb-calm, cool and collected.
She is 94.

We will never see the likes of her again.

WinterIsGone · 08/05/2020 22:17

What is the point of the monarchy???
So we don't get a head of state like Trump voted in? Grin

Rosebel · 08/05/2020 22:20

What does she actually do? How has she helped the nation?
She isn't that wonderful. She's given a couple of speeches that she didn't even write. Fed up with the Royal family. I think Charles should be King when the time comes but then get rid of them.
William, Catherine and their children give the impression of trying to be normal when in reality they don't have a fucking clue.

Unravellingslowly · 08/05/2020 22:20

While she made sure any gay people of her employ would never work again, or even dare to go out in public again?

@Samtsirch wasn’t ‘backstairs Billy’ gay? William Tallon worked for her for years & my understanding was that’s he was gay.

LuminousAmber · 08/05/2020 22:20

I think it’s the sharpness of the Queen’s intellect that impressed me tonight - the assuredness about what to say/what not to say

Do you think she rocked up and riffed it live?

😂

Yep. You can just imagine her waiving all her aides away and saying not to worry, she’ll come up with something 😂

Liking the royal family - I get. Respecting the Queen, gaining comfort from the words, believing the Royals bring tourism and all the rest - fine.

Thinking the elderly lady wrote one word of that speech is a new level though.
