what is the point of the Royal Family though

The RF has no real point or purpose, but it does have a value. Tourism for one. Our RF is (?) the most famous and loved in the world.

Doesn't mean I agree with having them, but I'm sure the Queen adds value to our tourism economy in a way that will change when she dies.

Nothing against the Queen and she has done what she was bred to do but when she does go, will it really change anything at all. The whole royal family could go away and surely we would barely notice.

I don't have much time for the royal family nowadays. they are just people who were born to wealth and status which in my book makes them lucky, not special and certainly not cool.

I hope I am never given the opportunity to meet the queen... there is no fucking way in hell that I would ever curtsy to her or any of the other royal, but otherwise uninspiring, family

No I won’t struggle one bit. I have no respect or admiration for her or any of the rest of that family. I certainly don’t think she’s cool either. She sits there in her ivory castle with her fortune, and doesn’t give a fuck about us. The way she paraded Andrew round after that interview showed us what she thinks of us.

Isn't it weird that so many people rage about the Queen being 'rich' (she isn't, on a global scale, as most of her jewels, property, etc belong to the state) yet no one suggests that Wayne Rooney/the Beckhams/ Paul McCartney/a randomly named Kardasian/Madonna/the Clooneys, etc should throw open the doors of their very many mansions to the homeless?

Why pick on the one of the very few people in the world who has worked for over 70 years without a right to reply to all the criticism that is directed at her for doing a job she never asked for? Even the pope was able to resign.

I know this isn't something said often on MN, but yes I am a fan of the queen! I feel like she always knows the right thing to say. I enjoyed tonight's speech.

The queen could stand down anytime she wanted. She’s worth approx £365 million. Of course she’s rich. It isn’t a case of comparing her wealth to other people. She’s got hers from taxpayers. The “work” she does isn’t work either.Whats she doing to help with the virus? Not parting with any cash that’s for sure. Useless.

The Palace has released the interview she gave for, I think, the 50th anniversary in which she talks about VE day and going out into the crowds. It is obviously one her dearest memories and well worth listening to.

RF are an irrelevance, she is ok as a head of state goes but what if her successor is an idiot? we can't vote them out.

As for tourism? 4 x as many people visit Versaille as Buck house, obviously with no occupants, we could open up the Palaces and generate more income :)
People don't come here to see the Royals, they come to see the buildings, the riches and the history.

I heard someone being interviewed, he was a doctor who had been working in war zones/famine zones, think he was MSF. Anyway he was invited to a lunch with the Queen, not sure if he was getting an award or something. He said he suddenly froze, it was PTSD I think, and he could do nothing. He said she looked at him and said, "Let's feed the dogs shall we." She broke some biscuits and they fed the dogs for 20 minutes before they went on with the lunch. It was quite moving as he described it.

Thats the same for anyone with obscene amounts of money. The amount of nepotism in every privileged walk of life is ridiculous.

At least it’s part of her job title to do the best for the country rather than trying to make the most money whilst furloughing/ tax avoiding and other ways to bleed the place dry. .

She was at Balmoral with her grandsons, she thought it was more important of course the Di fanatics didn't give a damn about that, they just wanted those boys paraded so they could slobber and cry over them. No wonder Harry is screwed.

They all made their own money. If you consider them overpaid, that's a result of their fans being prepared to pay in vast numbers for their products/performances - if people suddenly went off football/The Beatles etc. no more money would roll in. It's as simple as that. Whereas the Royals are funded by the taxpayer whether we like their 'performances' (Andrew, anyone?) or not.

We can choose whether to pay for a Paul McCartney CD or a Sky Subscription to watch Rooney - we have no choice but to bankroll the Royals.

Are you kidding?? People slate these 'celebs' all the time for asking for charity donations when they could be doing more. VB in particular came a cropper the other week re furloughing her own staff.

Time people woke up and realised how much we're being taken for fools with this family. It's appalling just how much they cost us......and no I don't believe tourism would suffer in the slightest if they were gone ( seeing as how that's all people go on about for reasons to keep them) I think the RF are a sinister institution, shrouded in secrecy. I definitely don't think they're a force for the good of the country.

She's sitting on untold wealth and empty properties
Well for starters, kings and queens do tend to have the wealth of centuries of being royal to fall back on.
Secondly, she doesn't own any of those properties, they belong to the Crown and are grade 1 listed buildings of the utmost historic and iternational importance.
What would you like her to do? Sell them off to some oligarch, or knock them down and build some flats?
Shall we sell the unique and totally priceless Crown Jewels to the highest bidder?

How has the queen “instinctively got the nations mood”? What because she’s said a few appropriate words probably written by someone else.? Has she announced she’s going to donate millions or give up one of her many palaces? Has she hell.....she does not give a damn, she cares about herself only. The peasants can all eat cake.

Some of those buildings should be took off her, there’s no need for her to have them all. It’s obscene what she gets.

For those of you on here saying she doesn't write her own speeches, she writes all her Christmas speeches and any personal speeches that she gives to the nation. So yes she would have written the speech she gave tonight.

Of course the treasury takes the bulk of the profits, why ever shouldn’t they. The queen gets a huge chunk though.
