To think that unlike Adele, lots of us are getting bigger after lockdown?

Having been reading about Adele's amazing weight loss, I feel as though I've performed a similar feat in reverse! I'm normally slim and healthy, I haven't been overeating that much during lockdown, so assume that it's just that I'm less active. I weighed myself this morning and have put on over half a stone! Speaking to friends, quite a few seem to have the same issue. AIBU to think that lots of people are gaining weight during lockdown? Or am I in denial and others are getting healthier, like Adele?

I've been on the 5:2 diet for a while now and during lockdown have used it to maintain my weight. Eat like a piggy 5 days a week and have 2 days off. Not even trying to lose weight at this time.

Baskininthegarden · 07/05/2020 07:24

It will be 1 extreme or the other I think.
I saw after the first 2 weeks that I was going to put on a few lbs, so caught myself and decided to go running every day, use the fact I cant shop as much to kick start the healthy eating and no snacking and challenged myself to try get my 15k steps in still.
There seems to be loads more people out running and cycling than normal, so hopefully the majority have done well at keeping themselves / getting healthy through this.

HeartZone · 07/05/2020 07:26

I don’t think Adele lost 7st ‘during lockdown’ though?

feistymumma · 07/05/2020 07:26

YANBU but I have been using lockdown to get back into weightlifting and it is working well in the sense that I haven't gained weight.

CafetiereCoffee · 07/05/2020 07:26

I have a controversial statement to make about Adele. She went on her diet blitz after she left her husband, so none of his beer, crisps and takeaway curry that men usually add into the shopping list (well, mine does, anyway) around the house to pick at when you’re bored.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I am in lockdown with 4 other people, including husband and two adult children. If I was on my own then I probably would live off homemade smoothies and soup and I’d be a stone lighter.

KatherineJaneway · 07/05/2020 07:27

Definitely, I can feel all the weight I've put on Sad
Desperate for the gyms to open.

20viona · 07/05/2020 07:29

Iv exercised and eaten less during lockdown 🤷🏼‍♀️

HowlsMovingBungalow · 07/05/2020 07:30

Most of us haven't had a gastric band fitted.

starsinyourpies · 07/05/2020 07:31

I've put on weight, and got pregnant. Everyone can enjoy judging me for both those things when we emerge.

ZaraW · 07/05/2020 07:32

I've put on 4kg. I'm still working but I'm boredom eating.

Magicra84 · 07/05/2020 07:32

Adele hasn't had a gastric band has she?

LaneBoy · 07/05/2020 07:36

I’m not piling it on but I am very slowly regaining the weight I’d been gradually losing since I started ADHD treatment in November (it’s helped with impulsive eating and cravings)

I’ve managed to up the exercise at home now - I have physical issues so can’t do stuff like going for a run but I really miss the gym and swimming. I’ve made a gentle workout for myself (usually do resistance stuff) and we have an exercise bike so that’s something.

I am definitely eating worse though. We are guilty of getting more treat food in and although my meds are still helping I think the fact I’m not as busy (and thus distracted from thinking of food) is making it much more difficult. I’m trying to keep busy but motivation is hard!

LaneBoy · 07/05/2020 07:36

Congratulations stars!

MsTSwift · 07/05/2020 07:36

Recently lost 2 stone I’ll be damned if I’m putting it back on after my efforts! Set up for home exercise do an hour each morning and fast til lunchtime. That should do it

EmbarrassedUser · 07/05/2020 07:38

Only if you’re snacking more. I’ve lost a stone as I’m no longer tempted by the cakes on offer at work or the sandwich van.

Mummadeeze · 07/05/2020 07:41

Been exercising every day and have still put on half a stone. Need the gym to open again. Have now stopped eating dinner (which has been the main change) to try and get it off again. Do not want to emerge back into society not being able to wear any of my nice Summer clothes!

DurhamDurham · 07/05/2020 07:46

Adele hasn't lost 7 stone during lockdown Hmm

I'm sure having a personal trainer and a chef make all the difference. I also think she'd had a gastric band, she looks great however she's achieved it.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 07/05/2020 07:46

Ive lost weight as Ive been using intermittent fasting. It works SO well and its just easier avoiding food entirely than trying to work out calories etc

Knocksomesense · 07/05/2020 07:48

I've cut back on snacks and alcohol and am fasting and the scales haven't moved. I was hoping to lose some but nothing is shifting

caperberries · 07/05/2020 07:48

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter Interesting. So what's your approach? How many hours a day do you fast? And is every day the same?

monkeytennis97 · 07/05/2020 07:49

Impossible to lose 7 stone in lockdown!!

I've lost 22lbs but I've been calorie counting and doing about 3-4 hours exercise a day.

BistoBear · 07/05/2020 07:50

I normally cycle or run the four miles to my normal (theatre nurse) job at my local little hospital. Since covid-19, I've been redeployed to the ICU at a bigger hospital 15 miles away. I have to drive there so I've lost my daily commute exercise.

Before lockdown, I would go to classes at the gym twice a week and swim twice a week.

Now, I walk the dog when I'm on my days off, that's it for exercise.

Plus, I'm definitely drinking more and eating more.

I'll be rolling out of lockdown.

But it is only temporary, once I'm back in my normal routine I'll hopefully slim down again. Fingers crossed Smile

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 07/05/2020 07:51

I use an app called body fast which gives you a range of programmes and literally tells you when to eat. I refuse to pay for it so am just using the free programmes. Its honestly been astonishing. Ive lost a stone, my stomach is flat and not gassy or irritated any more. Plus i feel lighter, more energy etc

I do think anyone should check with their doc first as fasting isnt for everyone- if you have low blood sugar you do need to be careful (although studies have shown it can stabilise blood sugar) so just be sensible and research it first. I love it!

caperberries · 07/05/2020 07:52

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that Adele's entire weight loss had happened during lockdown. It was just that her success presented a neat contrast to my recent blubberiness when I was thinking about it earlier
