Meghan Markle story time

Posting here for the traffic and so this is read by a diverse pool of people - not just royal fans...

I really like Meghan Markle and I admire her for carving her own way and being a feminist in her choices. I like that she waited after the birth for photos and spoke up about the metoo movement etc.

As much as I like Duchess of Cambridge, I don’t think she does anything to advance women. She seems to do what is expected of her which people love but which I find awful. She has a responsibility as a role model for young women but yet Seems to be the perfect, painfully thin, upper class wife that does as she is told, rarely speaks and is every sexist, wealthy, white man’s dream.

I’m a little lost as to why people seem to be pro Kate and anti Meghan. Is it because Kate is what all middle class women aspire to be in England. Doing as one is told ? Being a softly spoken English lady that wears tweed and frolics in the country while her husband is on a boys ski trip etc etc

Have we all forgot about feminism ?

I think all of you precious darlings need to allow me to have a conversation about feminism and the royal family.

People will respond how they wish, that is what a conversation is. I don’t need to fuel anything - the daily mail already does.

What I’m trying to work out is why we aren’t standing up for Meghan as women, after what happened to Di and why Kate is the hero for confirming. Is the Uk as sexist as it is racist ? That’s a fair question and one that I should be able to discuss on Mumsnet.

This is not North Korea - stop trying to censor everything !!!

I really can’t see either Kate or Meghan’s life choices or career paths as “feminist”. Sorry, that just doesn’t tally with the known facts about either of them.

I don’t like Megan markle particularly. I am not racist and it’s annoying when people say that’s why people don’t like her Hmm
The reason I don’t like her is to me she seems very fame hungry and ruthless in the way she has treated her own family, friends and her in laws.
For those reasons she isn’t someone I admire or am particularly interested in.

A lot of people bash women who aren't as you describe Kate, or who aren't victims. If you look at other female celebrities who are attacked by the press, such as Katie Price and Madonna, they don't like them because they haven't been broken or apologise for going for the life they want.

Meghan given her background, shouldn't have the audacity to think she can be a member of the Royal family, according to many.

She had the capability of making real changes and becoming someone to really respect, her and Harry and that wasn't wanted by certain sections of the Palace or the press.

Although I like them, I think Harry has always taken his privilege for granted and thinks that he owes the UK public nothing.

If she was a feminist who believed in meritocracy she would have refused a royal title and carried on working. She's as thick as her idiot husband and even greedier as far as anyone can see.

I don't know why people keep peddling the racism card - her unpopularity has nothing to do with her colour as was demonstrated by the absolute outpouring of love when Meghan and Harry got married. What has made her so unpopular is the way both herself and Harry have behaved since then.

I do wonder what people see in William and Kate because off script they've got nothing to say. What they do say when caught off guard, or when they try to be informal just doesn't make sense.

Meghan is a bully, she bullied staff, she stops friends when they are no longer any use to her, she treated her father like shit, it’s her way or no way. What did Harry say? What n wants Meghan gets. When she realised she wouldn’t get her way and had to conform to long written protocol, be expected to work as a member of the RF and bot as an actress she up sticks and left

Honestly OP, this is just another post setting two women up against each other. I quite like Meghan too, I certainly have nothing against her, but I don’t need to run another woman down in order to say so. You’re slagging off Kate so don’t really see why you’re questioning others slagging off high profile women on their looks and how they appear in the media. You’re all as bad as each other

I wonder if it as much about class as race and the two are intertwined.

I think because Meghan is black and American and not an English rose, more was expected of her.

It’s sort of like if Harry had of married a willowy blonde aristocrat and let’s say her Dad was I don’t know, let’s say, accused of having sexual with a 16 year old. Let’s say her letter to him was published and she banned him from the wedding. I think it would have all been forgiven.

Meghan on the other hand, has more pressure to act as regal as possible to compensate for not being English. It’s like the trailer park family was the tipping point. There was no way they were ever going to be able to PR was that away and make her seem mysterious. It’s why people thinks she’s deserving of being royal.

I think her Father has been appalling. He did staged paparazzi shots against her wishes days before the wedding. He spoke out to the media about her repeatedly.

I Imagine her family was hugely dysfunctional and she knew it would be a shit show and stressful at the wedding. She probably had to choose between an outburst on international live tv or looking like a bitch that didn’t like her family.

I know what I’d choose
