AIBU or is eBay seller?

I bought wallpaper on eBay from a wallpaper account. It arrived looked very slightly different colour wise but not a million miles away and thought it would be fine. It’s metallic and still in th wrapper. The label says Silver which is what I ordered.
I was out working all day today and left a key for my decorator to come and put it up for me.
I get home from work and it’s champagne coloured. Looks totally out of place with my room and all the bits I’ve bought to go with the paper.
Seller says it’s the right one sent. She wants me to strip it off and send it back to see if she will do a return. Surely this is unreasonable? I’ve sent pictures. I am still working and homeschooling two high school children, one starting highers so it a challenge on its own and I am studying competent my course at home and working. That’s why I got someone to come today as I don’t have time. Kids were at their dads my partner and I were at work.
I’ve put three photos up. I ordered the white one. I think she has sent me incorrectly packaged gold rolls with the silver label. The other photo is my wall.
I think the seller is BU expecting me to strip it off and return. I still have one unopened.

Oh and seller is trying to say they the advertising photo for the paper is her lounge.....it’s the photo used by Athena to advertise the product on every wallpaper stockist.

Votes are wrong I checked on them trying to turn voting off.

I bought a pie the other day, it said it was steak and kidney. It was clearly just steak. Supermarket demanded I vomited it back up to send back to them before offering a refund. Clearly unreasonable!!! I’m with you OP! 😂

😂😂

Photos 1 and 3 look like the same paper.

I can’t see any silver in the second photo - looks grey and white.

So I’m confused!

ZombieFan · 04/05/2020 01:10

So you bought wall paper from a picture online, got a decorator to put it up before you saw it and now expect the seller to refund you because you dont like the colour.

Sorry, you ate the steak.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 01:11

It’s the middle one I wanted.
The left is what I think I got with the label for the grey/white/silver one. The right photo is my wall still a bit bumpy as it’s still drying.
So annoyed as I paid a decorator to paint and hang the paper.

@ZombieFan no it’s metallic and hard to tell i saw it before it went up. It looked silver in the packaging. In a large area it is definitely gold.

The paper is mislabelled so you should get a refund (though surprised you didn't notice unless it was totally covered in the packaging). You have included photos that should be enough, but do you have any remnants?

MintyFreshFemale · 04/05/2020 01:14

If in doubt, you shouldn’t have used it. I bet the seller has had loads of people saying they have been sent the wrong colour etc and when offered a refund on return the buyer can’t, as they’ve used it. You should of been more careful. Ridiculous of the seller to say strip and return, but can see why, she’s calling your bluff.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 04/05/2020 01:14

@ZombieFan the steak was fine, it was the lack of kidney that bothered me. Plus it said it was shortcrust when clearly filo pastry. I mean I ate it all though...I’m still entitled to a refund though right??? 😂

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 01:14

Yes got remnants. As I say it looked silver in the packaging because it was metallic it was reflecting light and hard to tell. Now it’s in a big area it’s gold.

The middle picture is a different wall paper, the patterns are different. Is that the one the seller was using?

Nanny0gg · 04/05/2020 01:16

Why didn't you open the packaging on one of the rolls to be sure?

It's a bit late to complain once you've used it. The onus was on you to check first.

violetbunny · 04/05/2020 01:16

Well it's a metallic effect so it is always going to look slightly different depending on the lighting and angle. In the middle picture it looks a bit more on the grey side. But it looks like a metallic silver in the other 2 pics.

However given it's already now hung on your walls I can't realistically see what you'd expect the seller to do. Even if you hadn't already put it up, I think it's one of the risks you take buying something like this online (colours can show up differently on different computer monitors, so unless you received it and it was a vastly different colour, e.g. purple, I don't think you can really complain).

MashedSpud · 04/05/2020 01:20

The middles join up in the middle and left strip in your photo. The right strip of paper is the pattern advertised.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 01:26

Can you put the listing up as I've checked ebay and it's very clearly gold in the pics , also the middle picture isn't in the listing so where is that one from??

TehBewilderness · 04/05/2020 01:41

eBay requires you to return for refund. Those are the terms you agreed to.
If you won't return it the seller does not have to refund, though they usually negotiate because they don't want a negative feedback.
File a claim with eBay and see what happens.

user1473878824 · 04/05/2020 01:45

It’s really champagne in the listing picture to be honest. I really can’t imagine buying metallic wallpaper off the internet and not looking at it before it was put up.

Ginkypig · 04/05/2020 01:54

The first picture clearly says gold in the title.

Was that the picture that was attached to what you bought?

The second picture is a different paper. Same pattern but not the same colour and it doesn't say the same thing as the first picture.
Was the second picture attached to what you bought?

I assume the third picture is your home?

BlankTimes · 04/05/2020 01:55

Surely the description of the roll is correct?

from the ebay site
"Debona Athena Gold Metallic Grey Glitter Crystal Greek Key Geometric Wallpaper"

Doesn't that mean metallic grey glitter greek key on a gold background?

Which is what you've got.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 02:00

The middle picture isnt in the listing, can't work out why the I'm added it. You must have got it from a different listing op? I'm guessing to make the seller seem unreasonable. I think this was obviously your mistAke and the seller doesn't get why you would put the wallpaper up if you was unhappy with it, it's reall y odd to put something up without checking it.

starfishmummy · 04/05/2020 02:01

Tbh on my phone they all look the same - and monitors do vary so I think you should have checked it first.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 04/05/2020 02:09

Why on earth did you buy wallpaper on eBay? For something that you are going to be living with, you need to see it, touch it, smell it and then decide. There are enough serious professional out there.
