I bought wallpaper on eBay from a wallpaper account. It arrived looked very slightly different colour wise but not a million miles away and thought it would be fine. It’s metallic and still in th wrapper. The label says Silver which is what I ordered.
I was out working all day today and left a key for my decorator to come and put it up for me.
I get home from work and it’s champagne coloured. Looks totally out of place with my room and all the bits I’ve bought to go with the paper.
Seller says it’s the right one sent. She wants me to strip it off and send it back to see if she will do a return. Surely this is unreasonable? I’ve sent pictures. I am still working and homeschooling two high school children, one starting highers so it a challenge on its own and I am studying competent my course at home and working. That’s why I got someone to come today as I don’t have time. Kids were at their dads my partner and I were at work.
I’ve put three photos up. I ordered the white one. I think she has sent me incorrectly packaged gold rolls with the silver label. The other photo is my wall.
I think the seller is BU expecting me to strip it off and return. I still have one unopened.

@mummabubs people do not have to be essential workers^^ to go to work. Under current guidelines if you can't do work from your home, you can work. You cant wallpaper someone else's house, from your own home.

Some business have been told to shut by the government, like pubs. Others have chosen to close to protect their staff. Some are still open.

Maybelatte · 04/05/2020 08:06

You shouldn’t have used it really. I don’t think you could return wallpaper to B&Q if you’d already applied it to the wall!

AJPTaylor · 04/05/2020 08:08

Why you wouldn't have opened one roll and checked it against the wall I can't understand.
Haven't had wallpaper for years but we always got a sample and physically held it up to check for colour in situ. Then checked the rolls against the sample and each other.

Wiaa · 04/05/2020 08:09

As pp have said pic 1 and 3 are the same pic 2 is different pattern, also I used to have wallpaper that was silver like this but looked gold in different lighting situations and lastly you should have checked it was the correct one before hanging it, mistakes happen but its not the sellers fault you now can't return the product as its not faulty

Peapod29 · 04/05/2020 08:10

HaveAtEm I cannot see that Those 2 bits you circled are any different other than the angle of the wall making the second like slightly thinner ? What Am I missing?! It’s like that gold/blue dress thing!

Justkeepswimmingdory · 04/05/2020 08:18

I don't get how people have read this so wrong? OP ordered the grey paper (pic 2) and she believes she has been send the gold paper (pic 1) in error. She didnt see a big difference when it arrived so it went up on the wall. She can now see how different it is to the grey she ordered and has challenged the seller asking for a refund as they have clearly sent the wrong paper.
Not sure where she stands on a refund as it has gone up but I agree she should get a refund as the pattern is different to what she ordered too

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 04/05/2020 08:18

Pictures 1 & 3 look exactly the same to me!

As pretty much everyone else has said YABU to not have opened the wallpaper and checked it before allowing your (rubbish) decorator in to put it up and potentially spread germs everywhere!

ferretface · 04/05/2020 08:27

I can't see a difference between pic 1 and 3 sorry!

Daisydoesnt · 04/05/2020 08:29

People are thinking the patterns are different because of how the colours/ textures look different in different lighting. The metallic bar looks shiny in some and dark grey in some pics. You can spot the glitter bar in all the pics though because you can see its textured.

In pics one and 3 the shiny bar connects in the centre of the key (the matt bars don't).

In picture 2 the grey bar connects in the centre (the white bars don't).

It's the same design.

Meirou90 · 04/05/2020 08:33

@HaveAtEm that’s just an optical illusion, the light grey lines (the non metallic lines) do not join in any of the pictures. They’re all the same pattern.

Twigletfairy · 04/05/2020 08:33

She wants you to strip the paper and send it back because she doesn't want to refund the money and you still have the paper on the walls, essentially having product for nothing. I can totally understand that.

That's why you don't buy wallpaper online and don't even check before putting it up

yellowbluebell · 04/05/2020 08:34

You've definitely got the wrong paper, you've got the champagne one.

HaveAtEm · 04/05/2020 08:35

The two strips on the OPs wall are definitely different. It's not a 'trick of the light' of a 'bike dress/pink dress' thing. The geometric pattern is slightly different...one strip (the one on the left) looks like Paper A (where the geometric lines meet in the middle) and one strip (the one on the right) looks like Paper B (where the geometric lines do not meet in the middle).

Follow the lines with your eyes...you will see the gap on the right strip. It's slightly more difficult because of the metallic brightness and the flash of the cavers etc, but it's pretty obvious! Once you see it, you can't un-see it 😱

It would help if the OP took more photos without a flash of the different strips too.

Meirou90 · 04/05/2020 08:37

@HaveAtEm follow the metallic line in pic 1, follow the light grey line in pic 2 (the light grey line is the metallic line) and follow the metallic line in pic 3. None of them join up.

Meirou90 · 04/05/2020 08:38

Sorry I’m confusing myself now 😂 I meant non-metallic

Peapod29 · 04/05/2020 08:41

None of the lines in the middle join up. I’ve looked and looked and I can’t see a difference apart from in pic 1 the lines are all bent in slightly (so pattern is not square) but that’s probably juts how it’s been photographed. I think people are mixing up the colours of the lines looking different In light.

Whaleandsnail · 04/05/2020 08:41

What do you want to happen?

Keep the wallpaper up and get a refund? I think that's unreasonable as you'd still have, and be using the product and get your money back.

If you aren't happy with the product and description and want a refund, then I think you are entitled to one if it isn't as listed but I do agree with the seller that you should strip the wall and send it back.

I don't think you should have a refund and the wallpaper, even if you aren't happy with it,you are still using it. The onus was on you to properly check before having it hung on the wall.

PegasusReturns · 04/05/2020 08:42

The OP is saying she ordered the silver - which is the middle picture.

But what she got is the gold (pic 1) labelled silver.

OP the colour of the paper you got certainly looks like pic 1. Regardless of colour, wallpaper in 2 & 3 are different designs.

CardsforKittens · 04/05/2020 08:49

It’s really difficult to tell from a picture but having tried to incorporate metallic elements in decor before I can sympathise - it’s really difficult to get things looking right.

However, I’d agree with PP that the wallpaper doesn’t look like it was put up well. And if you hate it you’re probably going to strip it off anyway. And if you’re claiming it’s not as described in the listing you need to return it to the seller. I think YANBU to be disappointed with how it’s turned out, but YABU to expect a refund and keep the wallpaper.

mollibu · 04/05/2020 08:49

Surely if you don't like it, you'd just be taking it down anyway? I'd strip it and send it back to the seller if you want a refund.

I am a bit Hmm as to why you didn't look at it before you had a decorator (very badly) put it up for you.

Hippoplatypus · 04/05/2020 08:51

You can't expect a full refund on a product you have already used Hmm maybe if send any unused wallpaper back the seller might offer a partial refund as a gesture of good will, IF there has actually been a mix up. I would be extremely surprised of you get all your money back on this one.

Nottherealslimshady · 04/05/2020 08:54

But you put it up! Your opportunity to return was when you looked at it and saw it was the wrong colour. You've chosen to use it now. You cant just keep it on your wall and get a refund.

Daisydoesnt · 04/05/2020 08:55

@HaveAtEm the lines DO meet up in the middle.

In pic 1 & 3 the line that meets up looks shiny; in pic 2 that same line, the one that meets up, just looks dark grey because of the light.

I think that it's hardest to see when you compare pics 2 and 3. In effect the colours are reversed in the pattern.
Dark grey>white
White > dark grey

But it is the same.

londonrach · 04/05/2020 08:56

You the buyer should check before putting it up. Looks same to me but im no good on different details

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 09:03

It’s still the ops mistake!! They are all the same wallpaper, check the link www.wonderwallfashions.com/products/athena-white-silver-4011?_pos=2&_sid=e994d3b1f&_ss=r the paper in the middle op has posted is just because it’s from a distance, close up it looks like the one on the ops wall and pic 1. So clearly the ops error.
