AIBU or is eBay seller?

I bought wallpaper on eBay from a wallpaper account. It arrived looked very slightly different colour wise but not a million miles away and thought it would be fine. It’s metallic and still in th wrapper. The label says Silver which is what I ordered.
I was out working all day today and left a key for my decorator to come and put it up for me.
I get home from work and it’s champagne coloured. Looks totally out of place with my room and all the bits I’ve bought to go with the paper.
Seller says it’s the right one sent. She wants me to strip it off and send it back to see if she will do a return. Surely this is unreasonable? I’ve sent pictures. I am still working and homeschooling two high school children, one starting highers so it a challenge on its own and I am studying competent my course at home and working. That’s why I got someone to come today as I don’t have time. Kids were at their dads my partner and I were at work.
I’ve put three photos up. I ordered the white one. I think she has sent me incorrectly packaged gold rolls with the silver label. The other photo is my wall.
I think the seller is BU expecting me to strip it off and return. I still have one unopened.

@Windyatthebeach just make a huge fuss of her and reward her when she plays with toys.
And a few weeks back shredding loo roll would have been a disaster 😆

You've ordered reflective wallpaper. It is therefore going to change colour depending on the ambient lighting and whatever furniture or other colour there is in the room.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 11:05

@JayneEyre my two have a timetable of work to follow with classes being uploaded on a system called teams.
Until last week the classes were run a full school day but they’ve just changed it to shorter 20 minute sessions. Although I’m making sure they do some work I’m not as forceful as making sure they’re up and ready at 8.30 to get it done.

You should have checked it more thoroughly before it was put up. Of course the seller will want it returned to do a refund - if they didn’t, everyone could buy wallpaper, hang it, then get a refund. They want to know that you have removed it and are not just trying to pull a fast one.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 11:08

@Namechange2020onceagain
No I do like it. I like the pattern (some don’t some do) today in the daylight it does look more silver than last night.
I have one full unopened roll that I can return free through eBay and seller accepts returns. If I don’t return it it’ll go in the bin it’s no use to me,

Have you had randoms in your house putting up wall paper during lockdown Grin

HariboLectar · 04/05/2020 11:11

O/T looking at the professional's job, I'm slightly happier with the wallpaper I hung myself last week Grin

Namechange2020onceagain · 04/05/2020 11:12

It might be free for you, the seller will have to cover the cost.

Also it is only free if there is something wrong with it, there is nothing wrong with the paper the seller sent to you. If you change your mind or over ordered, that's on you, the seller shouldn't be out of pocket.

Have some scruples and keep it.

GrimmsFairytales · 04/05/2020 11:13

It won't be free to return it, as you'll need to send it back at your own cost. The seller may refund you for the roll, but they won't refund the postage cost as there's nothing wrong with the product.

welldonesquirrels · 04/05/2020 11:15

I actually think it's not totally inconcevable that all three are the same, just taken in very different lighting conditions. 1 and 3 look light they were taken in warm artificial light (like with a lightbulb on) and 2 looks like it was taken in cooler natural light. That can drastically vary how reflective / metallic papers look.

Sorry OP, it's disappointing but it's always a risk buying stuff like this online because photos don't always show how something will look under different lighting conditions.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 11:16

@HariboLectar it’s all dried in fine today. Not a lump or bump in sight. I’m happy with the job.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 11:18

@welldonesquirrels
The paper does come in silver/grey or champagne/grey.
I’m agreeing with you on the light though. Last night when I was upset with it I had a lamp on with a warm white bulb in. On the reflective paper it would have pulled the warm tones and reflected that.

Ginkypig · 04/05/2020 11:32

I'm glad it's feels mostly ok now op.

I don't think you could have sent it back without a load of hassle and arguments to be honest so if you happy that save you loads of issues.

I will say though the seller telling you the picture was their own living room is full cf territory! you have said it's a stock photo from the company!

canigooutyet · 04/05/2020 11:49

@JayneEyre
When schools closed, so did learning anything new. Along with the cancellation of all exams.
Any work sent from schools is not compulsory.
Schools were told this when they closed, and instead welfare of everyone hence the welfare calls.
All the information is online, and on the official government sites.

Parents are not teachers and are not expected to teach. Instead, we are asked to try and support them. The work isn't getting marked. There is nothing official for secondary schools, and most are taking the same route as primary. Not giving new work, marking etc.

Primary and younger it's about engaging with them just as you would do a bit of homework after school and to basically help relieve the boredom.

There is also the issue that not all students have access, and the laptops that are apparently getting sent out, won't be available until the end of June. Over a million students don't have access.

Personally, I would rather the laptops didn't go out and everyone waits until they reopen. The tax bill is going to already be astronomical. I'd rather buy a couple and give them to the school, will be cheaper in the long run. Or worse, the cost will come out of the school budget as they belong to schools, with a few exceptions.

The 4G devices that will also be sent out to get homes online, there is no clear info about who will pay for this. Many homes cannot afford it even with the recent benefit increase.

canigooutyet · 04/05/2020 11:53

Because they are passing off someone else pictures, contact eBay. That is against their t&c's.
If you then get a full refund, it is down to the dishonesty of the seller.

If you don't have to send it back, the children can always use the back of it to draw on Grin

zscaler · 04/05/2020 11:54

I don’t think you can get a refund now the paper is up - you should have made sure it was right before using it.

If you still have one roll can you send that back?

JayneEyre · 04/05/2020 12:50

@canigooutyet I honestly don’t know what you mean by ‘when schools closed, so did learning anything new’. I haven’t found this to be the case at all either in the school I teach at, in my own children’s school or in the school of anyone I know.

Also my children’s work is getting marked. They are submitting it on the Show my Homework app and then it’s getting marked.

Work may not be ‘compulsory’ but people are supporting their own children. They can’t make it compulsory because some people will be ill, some won’t have the resources, some children have special needs. But those of us who are in a position to carry it on are doing so.

I don’t know why you are criticising the OP for saying she is homeschooling her children. That’s what is happening everywhere.

grumpyorange · 04/05/2020 12:51

To me that's silver but the light in your room makes it look a champagne colour.

canigooutyet · 04/05/2020 13:23

@JayneEyre
Where did I criticise the op?

ZombieFan · 04/05/2020 16:32

I will send back the unopened roll I have for a refund on that roll only.

Well that is very cheeky.

PegasusReturns · 04/05/2020 16:42

On the first picture, regardless of colour the lines are evenly spaced and the same width.

They’re not on the other pictures.

SunShine682 · 04/05/2020 17:03

Can’t believe you paid someone to hang that wallpaper up. They did a shocking job! And the picture you added today from further away you can still see bumps in it. I hope you didn’t pay him/her!

LunaLula83 · 04/05/2020 17:29

You had every right to return. But then you used it. So you've lost all rights I'm afraid. Lesson learned

Tibbet · 04/05/2020 17:33

This is exactly why I still use physical shops for things like this, or order a sample pack first.

However, you have had it put up now. It is unreasonable imo to expect a refund and to get to keep the paper. The seller may sound unreasonable asking you to strip it and send it back, but they are probably just trying to ascertain that you really won't be leaving it up if they refund you, and ultimately receive it for free.

Ebay can very difficult on sellers, buyers certainly have way more protection and rights.

iwampix · 04/05/2020 21:26

I don't understand the problem? You don't like the colour and say it doesn't match your living room so surely you will be ripping it down anyway? Send it back and get a refund.

Also agree that your decorator did a shit job, get a refund off them too.
