I bought wallpaper on eBay from a wallpaper account. It arrived looked very slightly different colour wise but not a million miles away and thought it would be fine. It’s metallic and still in th wrapper. The label says Silver which is what I ordered.
I was out working all day today and left a key for my decorator to come and put it up for me.
I get home from work and it’s champagne coloured. Looks totally out of place with my room and all the bits I’ve bought to go with the paper.
Seller says it’s the right one sent. She wants me to strip it off and send it back to see if she will do a return. Surely this is unreasonable? I’ve sent pictures. I am still working and homeschooling two high school children, one starting highers so it a challenge on its own and I am studying competent my course at home and working. That’s why I got someone to come today as I don’t have time. Kids were at their dads my partner and I were at work.
I’ve put three photos up. I ordered the white one. I think she has sent me incorrectly packaged gold rolls with the silver label. The other photo is my wall.
I think the seller is BU expecting me to strip it off and return. I still have one unopened.

So you want to keep the wallpaper on your wall and have a refund and you cant understand why the buyer want you to strip it?

The picture on the left and the picture of your actual wall are the same.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 09:04

“We would always recommend purchasing a sample before committing to a wallpaper design as there can always be a colour variation between product images and products in real life depending on your lighting”

strawberry2017 · 04/05/2020 09:05

Sorry but I think you should have done a better job of checking it before the paper went up.
You are saying it was silver when rolled but gold when unrolled.
how can the seller be blamed for that, she wouldn't have known either.
She would have sold based on the sealed roll and the label on the pack.
You are expecting her to have noticed something you didn't based on the exact thing you could see.
However you then unrolled it and If you didn't notice then, then that's on you I'm afraid.

rayoflightboy · 04/05/2020 09:06

I don't get how people have read this so wrong? OP ordered the grey paper (pic 2) and she believes she has been send the gold paper (pic 1) in error. She didnt see a big difference when it arrived so it went up on the wall. She can now see how different it is to the grey she ordered and has challenged the seller asking for a refund as they have clearly sent the wrong paper.

It was up to the op to check the wallpaper was correct before putting it on the wall.

LtJudyHopps · 04/05/2020 09:07

Sorry but you should have looked at it before hanging it. That was your chance to return it, you can’t after hanging it!

It’s like wearing a pair of shoes out and then wanting to return as the colour isn’t what you wanted.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:12

I think she has sent me incorrectly packaged gold rolls with the silver label.

I think it looks like that too. It will depend on how light is reflecting on it though. Can you order a sample from another company to compare?

Bella2020 · 04/05/2020 09:12

Buying wallpaper online is risky, what with us all having differently lit rooms or cameras and monitors with different resolution settings. I think it was unwise not to open a roll and hold it up in the room you were proposing to use it in. I'm with the seller on this one.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:14

The picture on the left and the picture of your actual wall are the same.

The picture on the left is gold. The roll the OP ordered was silver and this is what the label said.

GrimmsFairytales · 04/05/2020 09:14

I doubt you'll be able to get a full refund. As you usually need to return the item in the same condition it was sent. The best you can hope for is a partial refund, but it would be a very generous seller to offer that, as they can't resell the wallpaper.

If you still want the wallpaper, and a refund then I think YABVU, as your mistake of not checking before he decorator put the paper up isn't the fault of the seller.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 09:16

Have you checked the link SoupDragon ? it is the same paper, all 3 pics are the same paper.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:17

It depends whether it is just a case of not liking the colour or if it was the gold version incorrectly labelled as silver. If it was incorrectly labelled then the item is faulty and she should get a refund. If it's not the wrong colour then she is stuck with it.

The only way to tell is with a sample of the silver from another supplier.

Namechange2020onceagain · 04/05/2020 09:18

You have the correct paper. Look at them all together.

www.wonderwallfashions.com/collections/vendors?q=Debona

The gold is very obviously gold. You have the white silver.

The seller sent the correct wallpaper. Close the case and leave them positive feedback. YABU

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:18

I was looking at the three photos in the OP. They are not all the same.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:20

The only way to tell for sure is with an independent sample of the silver. lighting conditions and differences in the way colours appear on a screen make it difficult to tell otherwise.

Lochroy · 04/05/2020 09:21

You can't compare using the photos the OP has posted because the lighting is different.

But surely OP, you looked at the paper before you asked the decorator to stick it up? (Which incidentally I agree with pp shouldn't be done at the mo, but that's by the by!)

You've gone ahead and had it put up, I think you're stuck with it.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 09:21

Or you could just check the link Confused

Cotswolds10 · 04/05/2020 09:22

Hard to tell if it’s a different colour as lighting can make a huge difference, especially with metallics.

But it definitely the exact same design. If you’re looking at the ‘bar in the middle’... in one pic it is the lighter colour and in the other it is the darker. Follow it with your eye and it still goes to the same place outside each square.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:23

the paper in the middle op has posted is just because it’s from a distance, close up it looks like the one on the ops wall and pic 1

Picture 1 in the OP is clearly labelled "gold" so you are saying the OP's wall looks like the gold one.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:24

Or you could just check the link

How is that going to help with how the wallpaper looks in the OP's room with her lighting? It isn't.

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 09:25

Because it’s the same paper.

cornersteps · 04/05/2020 09:27

I think the seller is BU expecting me to strip it off and return. I still have one unopened.

Well they are not. If you want a refund for whatever reason, without jumping into the colour debate, you need to return the product. I wouldn't refund someone and let them keep the paper on their wall either. If you return anything to anywhere because it is faulty you have to actually return it. You are not special.

Smellbellina · 04/05/2020 09:28

Thank you @Daisydoesnt for explaining, it was frazzling my head that sometimes it did look the same and sometimes it didn’t!

To be honest OP I think this is the risk you take when you buy a cheaper version of something. I don’t think the seller is in the wrong.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2020 09:29

Because it’s the same paper.

I Actually have no idea what post you are referring to now.

In the OP the first picture is clearly labelled "gold". The OP ordered and received paper labelled "silver". You said the OP's wall matches the first picture so this means You think it must be gold labelled as silver.

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 04/05/2020 09:29

Basically don't put wallpaper up without seeing it in person first (against the wall, if ordering online). I learned this lesson recently with a blind - the fabric was a different colour in person than it was on the website pics. You never know until you see it.

And yes, I think all 3 pics are the same wallpaper, just in different lighting.

canigooutyet · 04/05/2020 09:32

Looks more like it's your lighting that is causing the issue.

You said yourself rolled it looked correct until it went up.

One of the reasons I have no wallpaper. Much easier to just paint over if you don't like it Grin
