I bought wallpaper on eBay from a wallpaper account. It arrived looked very slightly different colour wise but not a million miles away and thought it would be fine. It’s metallic and still in th wrapper. The label says Silver which is what I ordered.
I was out working all day today and left a key for my decorator to come and put it up for me.
I get home from work and it’s champagne coloured. Looks totally out of place with my room and all the bits I’ve bought to go with the paper.
Seller says it’s the right one sent. She wants me to strip it off and send it back to see if she will do a return. Surely this is unreasonable? I’ve sent pictures. I am still working and homeschooling two high school children, one starting highers so it a challenge on its own and I am studying competent my course at home and working. That’s why I got someone to come today as I don’t have time. Kids were at their dads my partner and I were at work.
I’ve put three photos up. I ordered the white one. I think she has sent me incorrectly packaged gold rolls with the silver label. The other photo is my wall.
I think the seller is BU expecting me to strip it off and return. I still have one unopened.

There’s nothing wrong in buying paper online (assuming you get the right one sent!) as long as you have a sample first and tape it on the wall and check it through various times of day to see how the change in light affects it. Or things reflecting off it.Especially with metallics!
We have white painted walls and in one room our cherry blossom tree makes it glow pink Grin
The paper you’ve picked will change dramatically in different lights and angles.

So op if it looked different you should’ve messaged the seller immediately before opening, let alone having the decorator in and cracking on even though you thought something was wrong!

canigooutyet · 04/05/2020 09:37

If you're in the UK why are you trying to educate your children?
The government have said quite clearly parents are not teachers.
No new work should be set by schools.

Look again at the picture, clearly shows on the left side at the top it is silver.

GrimmsFairytales · 04/05/2020 09:41

Looks more like it's your lighting that is causing the issue.

Indeed. I suspect if the OP took a picture from further away without the camera flash, it would look very different.

It just seems to be one of those wallpapers that changes depending on lighting.

EmpressJewel · 04/05/2020 09:55

OP said she ordered the silver paper, so 2 things could have happened:

  1. the wallpaper just looks different on OPs wall compare with the product picture.

  2. the wallpaper was labelled incorrectly which is a manufacturing fault and is neither the fault of the OP or the seller.

The OPs error was using all of the wallpaper and then complaining. The seller is understandably annoyed as it looks to them like the OP is pulling a fast one.

Sorry I fell asleep last night.
Just to address some questions.

My children are being sent work from school. DS is doing fine but DD in fifth year (doing highers) is struggling and needing help a lot. Teachers are sending work which she is it grasping.
I was also aware that tradespeople can be working but socially distancing. Which was the case as none of us were home.

A lot of people seem to be reading my post wrong. I ordered the MIDDLE paper (the photo is one of the hooded on the listing from my purchase history) which appears to be silver and silver sparkle. I opened the packaging and it looked like a darker silver but seemed fine. The label said silver/silver.

When I got home last night it looked gold on the wall. I liked the wallpaper up and found that it is available in champagne (goldy coloured to me)

I think I have received the gold/champagne paper.

Today in the daylight it looks different again. Here is a photo. Btw it’s almost all dry now and the lumps have all gone. Job is good.

IVE CORRECTED TYPOS.

I think I have received the gold/champagne paper.

Do you still think this?

The most recent picture you've posted looks exactly like the middle one. I understand things can look different on different computers / monitors, but I don't see any gold.

Namechange2020onceagain · 04/05/2020 10:34

Look at the link I posted, you have the correct paper. White/silver

Justkeepswimmingdory · 04/05/2020 10:34

To the people saying it's a shit job wallpaper is always bubbly when it is drying because it is wet. It's just what happens.

Chillipeanuts · 04/05/2020 10:34

The middle one is a different paper?

Oilyoilyoilgob · 04/05/2020 10:35

To me it’s definitely the silver one, versus the gold. The pics online of the gold are VERY gold!
I think you’ve got the right paper but like a lot of metallics it looks different in real life. This definitely looks more silver to me.

Hope you’ve got used to it more and you’re enjoying a nice change to your decor 😊

rayoflightboy · 04/05/2020 10:35

That paper looks silver to me.

BoingBoingyBoing · 04/05/2020 10:36

I'm sorry, but hanging the paper and THEN moaning about the colour is a new level of taking the piss. If I were the seller I would refund you for anything unopened but giving you money for paper you've used. Fuck no.

Windyatthebeach · 04/05/2020 10:38

Ime just be grateful your new dpuppy hasn't recently eaten your lovely Laura Ashley wallpaper that has no chance of being replaced to match...
Sad

MaggieFS · 04/05/2020 10:39

So are you happy now? You're latest photo definitely looks silver to me!

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 10:40

@Namechange2020onceagain

I’ve liked at the link. I think on the gold one you see the continuous line as gold. Which is what mines looks like. On the silver it’s the darker part that’s continuous.

chunkyrun · 04/05/2020 10:40

Raise it with eBay they always side with the consumer. I say this as a disgruntled seller

PumpkinP · 04/05/2020 10:42

It does look like the one in the link I posted, even more so now you’ve taken the picture from a distance, why not order 2 sample papers and compare it to what’s on the wall??

Anyway you haven’t answered so you want to keep the paper up and be refunded? Surely if it’s the wrong one and you are not happy you wouldn’t mind taking it down?

GrimmsFairytales · 04/05/2020 10:44

I think on the gold one you see the continuous line as gold. Which is what mines looks like

Even accounting for differences in computer screens / monitors, there's no way I would call the line on your paper gold. It is definitely silver.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 10:49

I think today in the daylight I’m happy with it. Not 100% as it still appears gold(ish) to me. Today I will be putting all my things back in my bedroom, with a new light and curtains.
I will send back the unopened roll I have for a refund on that roll only.

Blueskysunsout · 04/05/2020 10:50

@Windyatthebeach
I’m so so sorry about your wallpaper. Bad dog! Bet he/she has been forgiven though Grinxx

OP posts:
Windyatthebeach · 04/05/2020 10:53

She has moved on to shredding toilet roll now. Slightly easier to replace...
Big buggar!!

SilverDragonfly1 · 04/05/2020 10:53

I think it's just a case of it being a different batch, like the way they tell you to get all of the wool you need for a jumper at one time because there may be minor variations in different batches. Also the paper you already have up may have faded slightly or discoloured in the daylight. They all look the same to me anyway, so I suspect it will either all settle down in a couple of weeks, or else the discrepancy will become noticeable enough to be sure you were sent the wrong one.

JayneEyre · 04/05/2020 10:59

If you're in the UK why are you trying to educate your children?
The government have said quite clearly parents are not teachers.

What???

My dc go to a completely average/normal school and we are getting five lessons a day. And so are my nieces and nephews from their schools. We've just done coastal erosion this morning. 😴

Namechange2020onceagain · 04/05/2020 11:00

Is it really worth sending the spare back? You will have to send it tracked to prove the seller has received it, at your expense, because it is as described, you just don't like it. Buyer's remorse.

The majority of MN think it is silver, it was labeled as silver, and it looks silver. It is Silver!
