Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

Anyone who's done a few of his workouts will know he puts on the "out of breath, this one is so hard today" routine. I'm under no illusions that he finds the level of workouts I've tried so far in any way difficult but somehow it's encouraging and comforting even though you know he's pretending!

Areyouhavingapoomum · 27/04/2020 23:14

We've attempted several days, he annoys me a bit, but my 3yo enjoys the jumping about and it's not a bad workout, for free, on YouTube!! He also broke his wrist or something in the early days, so the "lazy" training is possibly down to that and his actual career...

PeppersYellow · 27/04/2020 23:15

Getting a bit bored with all the chatting shout outs and quizzes too. Been doing it most days wiv my teens but am going to look for something else as have to keep fast forwarding all the chatty bits...

namechangetheworld · 27/04/2020 23:22

My four year old gave up after two days, she said that he talked too much and was annoyed that there was no music.

We now have to do half an hour of fucking Frozen yoga every day.

Sparklingplasters · 27/04/2020 23:36

He needs to wear much shorter shorts, his thighs are amazing

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2020 08:10

I've been aware of Joe for about 5 years. I have 3 of his cookery books and I've done lots of his workouts.

I've listened to him on podcasts (Fearne Cotton for example). His dad was a heroin addict and his childhood was very chaotic although he is always at pains to say he felt very loved and is never critical. He thinks he had ADHD as a child. If you watch the speech he made when he went back to his old university to address the graduands it will bring a few years to your eyes. I made my teenage boys watch it.

I went on one of his organised walks last year. Sometimes he will say to meet at Richmond Hill and he'll walk or cycle around the park with everyone. There were about 300 of us. He talked to and took a selfie with every single. person. Indie and Rosie were there. At the end (after 2 hours) the stragglers stopped at a cafe and Indie (18 months) just weaved in and out of people talking to everyone and he was so relaxed.

I remember a woman coming down from up north on the train to one of his organised cycling meets. She didn't bring a bike (?!). He dashed home and got Rosie's for her to use.

I think he has a fabulous lifestyle and I envy the time he spends at his house in Californian but he's earned it. He is very generous with family and friends by all accounts.

From what I know if him I think he's a very genuine, person with oodles of integrity.

Midsommar · 28/04/2020 08:17

@LaurieMarlow the coin toss is all well and good until it lands on tails and you have to do a minute of burpees 😂

SoldiersinPetticoats · 28/04/2020 08:24

YABU
Yesterday so workout was hilarious. Have you tried doing mountain climbers in tuxedo and dress shoes?

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/04/2020 08:45

@pupsiecola thanks for sharing that about the walks, he comes across as very genuine and he does sound lovely.

Off to find the university speech now..

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/04/2020 09:01

Just watched the speech and thought it's worth sharing, it was lovely, and I think it shows that he's had his own struggles with the business but kept going with hard work and it's obviously paid off.

DominaShantotto · 28/04/2020 09:02

I'd take him over that fucking Cosmic Yoga woman any day. She absolutely grates on me.

Butterbeaninjeans · 28/04/2020 09:09

We went on one day and there was a timer on which kept Resetting so gave up. Back to my old friend Billy blanks who has a quarentine workout, also loving that his house is a bit untidy Grin

loulouljh · 28/04/2020 09:23

I think he is great. There is no need for him to do this day in day out. It kicks starts the day well. No mention of the current situation. Teaches the kids other things with his quizzes too. Keeps changing it around. He's a legend!!

I am missing this morning (will do it later) but have done almost all of them. Far more toned as a result and most days feel really positive. It's in no small part to this workout.

Cheeeeislifenow · 28/04/2020 09:31

Their second baby has not been an easy baby, Joe regularly talks about Marley and the fact that for the first three months he screamed unless you held him all day, so he doesn't think he has got it all figured out. He works out loads all day every day. If you watch his Instagram stories you see that. They also seem like a really lovely family. I think we'll done to him, you can tell from listening to him that he really has a passion for what he is doing.

michaelbaubles · 28/04/2020 10:19

I agree that it is quite inspiring actually - by nature I don't really like/want to exercise so to have a scheduled thing at the same time every day is perfect for me - no excuses, just show up. After however many weeks it's now firmly part of our routine, no ifs or buts. Then I started plodding on the treadmill for a little bit beforehand to warm up and this week I've started going out and running a couple of miles first - this represents a huge step-up for me (I used to run pre-DC but have never managed to make it a habit since then) and I'm so happy and grateful that this one thing has kickstarted it.

Yogamad38 · 28/04/2020 11:25

@michaelbaubles I have found the same- it has got me doing more excercise and after 4 weeks of doing it my fitness has improved and I've moved on to doing a fitness DVD each day which is really doing me good. It's providing structure to my day and keeping me fit. Smile

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 28/04/2020 12:11

We love Joe Wicks here! Star

The roulette wheel was not the best set up and he looked roasting in the DJ! But today my DS did it live and then I did it with DD during her actual PE lesson and we all enjoyed it. We also have a prize for ‘who was most enthusiastic during Joe Wicks!’ which is fun. We also point out if he makes a mistake eg dropping his Joey during kangaroo jumps...

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 28/04/2020 12:17

Fancy dress Friday makes me laugh, although I do worry he’s going to faint!

dameofdilemma · 28/04/2020 12:19

There’s Joe Wicks for adults and then there’s the PE lesson - two completely different things for different purposes,

I’m bribing dd to do the PE sometimes, not every day. It’s good for her to get some exercise and there are good muscle strengthening exercises in there. We do it together and try to have fun.

I’m doing a mix of his adult HIIT and Tabata style online workouts. All free, all relatively short, all hard (short rest breaks, full on cardio).

He’s raised a load of money for the NHS. He’s overcome a difficult childhood and isn’t some over privileged, spoilt useless Influencer.

Give the guy a break.

brokeuse · 28/04/2020 17:57

We love it! Joe keeps my kids going back for more and they are 8 and 10. Sure we don't watch every day but we do every other day. They love the quizzes and the coin toss.. I think he is very inspirational in what he has tried to do and what's not to like?

littlekerry8 · 28/04/2020 17:58

I think he is brill , my kids 16, 11 and 3 are still doing it every day. It has given my eldest a real interest in working out. ... I thought he was out of breath too until my husband pointed out how difficult is must be to workout and talk

Mckmck123 · 28/04/2020 17:59

I thought he was just making out he was knackered to make us all feel better

LazyDoll · 28/04/2020 18:04

SparklingPlasters you are soooo right!!!! Me and my 3 kids have done it every day of lockdown. It gets us up and gives us structure and routine which help the rest of the day run better. My reluctant middle child has gained a lot of confidence in his own physical ability since he started following Joe. I’d never heard of him prior to this but I think he comes across as a genuine good egg! Go Joe 🙌🏼

Xmasbaby11 · 28/04/2020 18:14

No criticism of him but we don't like the PE workouts- very dry and boring, kids got fed up after 2 days. Great that lots of families are enjoying it though.

ChoppingBlock · 28/04/2020 18:20

I work out a lot and I've been enjoying doing the odd one or two a week. Put 100% of effort in and they're knackering!!!
