Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

Aw I really like the guy. My DH likes it more than the kids though!

geekone · 29/04/2020 08:29

Wow @Plurabellicoseplur
ghastly last I checked he didn’t cause anyone horror or fear unless you are scared of a little had work or maybe someone working hard on their career and being successful is horror for you.

self-promoting maybe you are unaware but in order to build a successful business you have to do a lot of business and self promotion. This isn’t a bad thing again people (maybe you) get easily jealous of success
eye-candy each to their own he’s not my idea of eye candy he did used to do a lot of shirt off but I think he has grown up since then and it helped build his business and create an image which is important.

who’s prepared to monetise absolutely any aspect of his life to grow the JW brand no just the business parts really. He’s not stupid enough to think that seeing as he is from the Instagram era of business that he could keep life and business separate

He reminds me of Jamie Oliver at his most puppyish I sense a theme here another self made business man who has used all of his popularity to build a business.

So bitter Shock

DadWithInoffensiveUsername · 29/04/2020 09:20

He's gotten my wife and youngest son exercising every morning... something I've failed to persuade either of them to do for the past 10 years.
Their moods are much better and they have loads more energy (although there is a noticeable downturn at the weekends, when coincidently there is no Joe).

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 29/04/2020 09:22

I'm liking this higher or lower cards "play you're cards right" game concept

ScouseQueen · 29/04/2020 09:35

Me too! I like having the board up so you can see where you are in the list of exercises as well.

Abreadsandwich · 29/04/2020 09:52

Yeah we liked todays one as well, although I think only parents would get/remember the concept

PapayaCoconut · 29/04/2020 10:07

Today was brilliant. DD didn't bother but I did it by myself. He really brightens up my mornings. I feel so much stronger and more positive since I started doing the workouts every weekday.

Also, he's like a human Teddles

Plurabellicose · 29/04/2020 10:08

Gosh, @geekone, you took my post awfully personally, AND got out your dictionary! Well done!

For what it's worth, I knew I remembered other Mumsnetters finding him annoying in the very recent past, and found this thread (which I didn't post or participate in) from the 22 Feb:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3829927-To-find-Joe-Wicks-suddenly-annoying-smug

86% of the responders find him 'annoying and smug', and say things like 'he makes me want to chop off my ears and gouge out my eyes with a rusty teaspoon' and 'he' thinks he's the only person ever to reproduce', 'anyone who calls broccoli "mini trees" deserves a slap' and describe his Wean in 15 as 'mansplainy'.

Other times, clearly. Grin

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 29/04/2020 10:08

Tbh I think it was on telly before I was born. So I'm a bit baffled how it could take up a whole tv show. And I thought ace = 1 not 14

michaelbaubles · 29/04/2020 10:36

I liked the higher or lower thing though two minutes of squats was a killer!

I also like that he'll come on and say "I woke up feeling a bit flat, a bit down..." because I definitely did this morning and really dragged myself out of bed to exercise. He doesn't mope or wallow though, just shows you can pick yourself up and get going regardless. I think that's a really healthy message to send out especially at times like this when the monotony can really start to grate after a while.

PrincessBuggerPants · 29/04/2020 11:58

"Being healthy and fit is all about consistency. It's not shoving a double cheeseburger down your throat and gorging on ice cream and chocolate, only to starve yourself for the rest of the week."

Good luck finding a double cheeseburger these days.

Awyeah · 29/04/2020 12:25

I'm a convert. I'll admit I previously thought he was a bit irritating but I think he's doing a great job here and seems like a lovely guy. It's free content! Anyone who doesn't like it, just...don't watch?

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 29/04/2020 12:34

Don't get the fuss.

pollymere · 29/04/2020 13:23

Email went to all teachers for children still in school:

Students are begging to not do Joe Wicks anymore...

Nosuchluck · 29/04/2020 13:34

I’ve been doing the workouts 7 days a week for 4 weeks and have started by to get abs for the time in my life! It makes me think of all the money I’ve spent at fancy gyms over the years.

Witchofzog · 29/04/2020 13:57

Are you supposed to do this sort of exercise everyday though? I was too but I did some research and found that hiit based exercises need a rest period of at least 24 hours to allow muscles to recover. So I try to do less strenuous Fitness Blender exercises on my inbetween days but I am not convinced this feels like enough after pe with Joe Wicks

Witchofzog · 29/04/2020 13:58

48 hours sorry not 24 hours

Pukkatea · 29/04/2020 14:13

You shouldn't do proper hiit workouts every day but what he does isn't really hiit...the intervals are too long and easy, hiit intervals are shorter because the exercise is so intense you physically can't do it for any longer than say 20 seconds. Joe is bodyweight cardio/calisthenics.

I think fitnessblender are wonderful and much better at creating well rounded workouts, giving proper advice on how to do the exercises and how to modify them to be harder or easier.

Crunchymum · 29/04/2020 14:17

Kids didn't enjoy him so we do Cosmic Yoga now!

Witchofzog · 29/04/2020 14:19

Oh thats reassuring. Thank you for clarifying that Smile

noblegiraffe · 02/05/2020 14:27

Poor Joe has been in hospital with an infection on his wrist. He did look like he was in a lot of pain on Friday.

www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-52514510

I’ll be gutted if he’s not back on Monday.

peekaboob · 02/05/2020 16:20

His insta is saying he is being kept in tonight but would be seeing us for PE on Monday.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/05/2020 18:49

I've just seen he's managed to rope his wife onto helping him demo the exercises in Monday, I would think they'll have both kids in the room too in that case!

Nosuchluck · 02/05/2020 18:52

I hope we get to see his DC, I love it when his toddler daughter gets in on it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/05/2020 18:53

@nosuchluck did you watch fridays? It was so cute with Indie as Zog.
